I kinda feel like the reason Vasgersian got this gig back in 06 was because he was in the right place at the right time as the Padres play-by-play man. Now that he's moved on to bigger things in NJ with MLB network (and has been since 09!) maybe SDS should do the same thing when they originally hired Matt and get the Padres current guy. He would be right there in SD and could re-record all Matt's lines so you wouldn't actually have to lose a thing in the transition. Now, I have never listened to Don Orsillo but SDS could always get him some sort of speech coach to help him get things just right, if he needs it.

I like this idea because one of SDS's excuses they couldn't implement weekly updates like Madden seemed to be because Matty V would be traveling too much. This won't be solved as he'll continue hosting MLB Network shows and continuing Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN as well.

Finding someone with a more open schedule and someone who would be in San Diego for a large chunk of the season would help logistically.

I really liked the addition of Reynolds in 17. He had some good lines and his voice was at least very different from the rest of the crew.

I liked Reynolds as well. I like DeRosa and Plesac as well. Give them some more lines and a little more flow and I would be happy.

Re: Any chance of a new play by play voice?

I didn't purchase '18 (as I'm now stating for the hundredth time it feels like) so obviously take my opinion with a large grain of salt. But, from what I heard in the road to release last March, DeRosa and Plesac sounded way too similar to make for a good 3-man booth. It's a shame that they've thought to lock this tandem up long-term with that pretty obvious flaw.

Independently, I don't mind either DeRosa or Plesac, but the combination of them over dozens of games I can imagine being not really optimal.
