Re: Your reason for playing Franchise

This is awesome stuff! It's really giving me some motivation to start a franchise.

For those of you that enjoy the story lines and story that your team creates, have you thought about doing a blog/website of some sort? I've seen them done with FIFA Career modes and with what some of you guys are telling me, this might be right up your alley.

Franchise mode is just a more grown-up, technologically-advanced version of that for me.

In the PS1 and Sega days I would track all of my scores and lineups using baseball score books and tracking every pitch. I had STACKS of used books.

Because they don’t have season mode anymore.

I lean heavily toward realism - not a fan of the arcade stuff. That's why I choose franchise manage mode. I also use very restrictive self imposed trade rules.

Franchise isn't for everybody. You need to have patience.

Like many others, to created my own world but I like it to be realistic. I used to do whatever happened in real life but now I'll do the prominent moves, otherwise just let it fly. I like drafting those player that I see using in my future) even though I rarely actually play with them).
I think my main goal in franchise is to grow my team, get rid of the un-fun aspects and fill them with players I can play with effectively and have fun with (which is harder said than done).
I usually have my realistic franchise and then do a fantasy draft OR alternate team franchise/season mode while adding whoever I like making it a fantasy team.
I love my Red Sox team but I also like playing with other players so nowadays I do 2 franchises, I don't get very far with the fantasy one however, but that's ok.

To see the story of my organization, and by extension, my players and their careers over the years.

When I see a grizzled vet like a kid I drafted in MLB14 playing in the twilight of his career with his amazing career, it just feels wonderful.

Same for guys like Chris Davis who hit 650 HR with 500 being a game-winning grand slam and 600 being a walk-off to clinch the division in extra innings - those events are part of why I love franchise + carryover.

That carryover part is key because it's no longer just "spam out games because next version it's over", you can actually built an organization and a history and a storyline for the players because you're watching it play out, especially if you play completely hands-off. So you'll have the journeyman, the good players that get passed around and constantly underrated. Kids you traded making a career elsewhere after fading with you, or vice versa.

I remember seeing a kid blossom with me and I traded him for some key talent - he faltered for 3 years, cut, claimed at Rule 5, cut, finally stuck somewhere and came alive again.

Seeing that kind of stuff is why I love playing franchise and playing completely hands-off. Helps the league feel much more organic and alive as I progress through the years.

There's a dynasty section here at OS that some people use. I kept a dynasty thread in the past, but I don't have the time for it anymore

Re: Your reason for playing Franchise

I started playing franchise for the 1st time ever, since they removed season mode. I don't like to manage anything, i just want to play a season.

I could not play exhibition matches only as it misses the tension of the pennant race. Also it's more fun to see the league leaders and try to get some of my guys on the all star game.

All this talk has made me fire up a new franchise with the Dodgers using the OSFM end of season roster. I think I’m going to keep this one rolling and only upgrade to ‘19 if they add expansion or relocation.

Re: Your reason for playing Franchise

I have to admit seeing all these people on here that enjoy franchise for the same reasons I do is awesome and comforting.

I love the story lines and have created several blogspot and wordpress blogs over the years to document my each and every move, the league's moves (which are mine under 30 team control) and even a GM Diary where I debate who to sign, trade away, trade for etc.

I used to use dynsastynationnetwork before they went away and have used the blog and dynasty edition on here before. Wordpress is pretty clean and lets you upload images etc pretty easily. OS has great features like draft recaps, lineups etc. I just haven't been able to master any of it yet. I'm hoping to import my current Baltimore rebuild soon. I just haven't had a lot of time. Maybe during the Polar Vortex.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who loves the story lines and takes this mode (way too) seriously!

So based on what they revealed today, they aren't even going to have a blurb about franchise is all of the leadup to the game. At least they're honest, I guess. At this point, all I can hope for is that another company is allowed to make a MLB game. SDS seems to have abandoned us.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

the problem is, the Show's franchise now, as is, might be better than a new game would have. Might be 5-6 years before it could compete with the Show's franchise. Maybe longer. even RBI doesn't seem ready to push the Show, and they're already 6 years in.

A new games franchise might not be as good, but it at least would be different. The Show's franchise biggest issue isn't it's quality, it's the staleness. It's not as if anyone else is coming in with a rival any time soon though so it's all academic.

The only real hope is that last year they said they do 3 year cycles for different modes, they'd "finished" DD (not that it stopped them putting more into it than any other mode again)and had moved on to RTTS. This will be year 2 of 3 for RTTS, maybe franchise would come next? I doubt it, but you never know.

                              I gave RBI 17 a go but it was a no go. didnt play 18. I'll give 19 a look-see come August.

Until gameplay actually improves, as long as someone continues to make decent/updated rosters, I see no reason not to keep playing '18. And '17 for us On-line franchise players.
