I just lost a game due to Billy Hamilton stealing home and other heartbreaking losses

Top of the 10th...score tied at 0-0. After getting a single with one out in the 10th, Billy Hamilton steals 2nd. He is then moved over to 3rd and a ball hit to Wong. So man on 3rd with 2 outs. The hitter at the plate is Anthony Rendon, whom I decide that I'm going to pitch to, but carefully. First pitch fastball is off the plate ball one. Next pitch is a fastball in on his hands that he swings at for a 1-1 count. Next pitch is a fastball again on the hands that he takes for ball two. Next pitch, 2-1 count, is a curveball down and away and Hamilton breaks for home. Francisco Pena catches the pitch, but is unable to get to Hamilton in time to prevent him from scoring!

I proceed to punch out Rendon and then we go down in order in the bottom of the 10th to lose the game 1-0. The Nationals had lost 7 in a row until this game.

What a way to lose a game...but at the same time it was pretty awesome.

Any heartbreaking losses you care to share?

Being playing MLB THE SHOW since MLB 14 and have never once seeing the CPU steal for home even with the steal sliders bumped all the way up. The only way this would happen is if the ball was thrown "In The Dirt Here" and when that happens even if the ball drops directly in front of the Catcher. Even the heaviest and slowest runners will take off regardless of base running ratings!

I play using Player Lock but wish to experience the base running gameplay you describe above. Where CPU runners actually challenge the current situation on the field and not just a direct line from station to station. Definitely hope base running is overhauled and improved in MLB 19.

Well it’s definitely a perfect storm scenario my man. Coupled with the sliders he no doubt uses, I think we can all comfortably agree we can count the piggies on one hand the amount of guys who can legitimately steal home and Hamilton is def at the top of that list. With the osfm rosters and the right slider you too can have realistic frustrating outcomes! Lol

Please enlighten me on which slider set are these? I have been using OSFM rosters. I even created my Franchise and built my team around runners with ratings that reflect.

I get first to second steals all the time. Rarely a 3rd base steal and I have never seen home been stole unless it was by myself CAP player locked.

last summer/fall Toronto's Stroman was no-hitting me through 8. my lead off batter in the 9th (wanna say Chris Davis, IIRR) broke it up with a double then I got the next guy on base too. losing 1-0, I thought that 9th belonged to me, had 2 on & 0 outs. but 3 batters later, no dice, game over. lost 1-0. it was like that all year, the Blue Jays soul-crushed me the whole season long

There you have it. CB uses ootb sliders. It’s all dependent. Hamilton steals on me often.

A couple years ago I lost after making 3 errors in a row. I was pretty upset, felt cheated and thought it was unrealistic until I realized it happened in the 2015(I think) playoffs between the Royals and Rangers(I think) when they also committed 3 errors in a row and lost.

I see a play IRL I've never seen before then I see a play in the Show I've never seen IRL but could still happen IRL,
doesn't necessarily mean its unrealistic, it could just mean the Show is ahead of the curve lol

Had a different style loss than the one I posted about earlier. I lost a game to the Dodgers 3-2 where in both the 8th and 9th inning we had bases loaded with no one out and couldn't produce a run.

In the 8th after Francisco Pena singled, Wong and pinch hitter Kike Hernandez walked, we had bases loaded with no one out. Magnerius Sierra hit a line drive that Micah Johnson jumped up and caught. Tommy Pham and Jon Singleton both struck out (Pham's was on a 3-2 pitch and a curveball out of the zone).

In the 9th Patrick Wisdom leads off with a double. Juan Fabregas walks and Paul DeJong singles but it was a bloop hit that Wisdom had to wait to make sure it fell. Again, bases loaded with no outs. Francisco Pena lines out to Corey Seager. Kolten Wong pops out and pinch hitter Marwin Gonzalez strikes out to end the game.



That one stung....

I had 3 games this weekend where my bullpen blew 4-0, 6-0, 4-0 leads.

No wonder we'll be picking first next year's draft

This was from MLB 16, I think. I was pitching with Felix Hernandez. Had a no-hitter through 9, but tied 0-0 because I got thrown out at the plate twice.

Felix goes out for the 10th and gets the first two outs to keep the no-no. Third batter reaches on an error, moves to 2nd on a wild pitch. I throw a sinker on the hands of the next hitter and he bloops it over my SS's head to score the run.

I go down 1-2-3 in the 10th and lose 1-0 on 1 hit and an unearned run.

Just yesterday in my RTTS as a pitcher I went into the 9th inning leading 1-0. I was perfect through 6 before a leadoff hit in the 7th. Still only 1 hit going into the 9th with 13Ks. I get the first two outs easily. Then the first two pitches to the batter are perfect fastball strikes low and away and the ump calls them both balls, so I was getting pissed. Then strike one, then and ball in the dirt makes it 3-1. I then throw another pitch high and tight that just nipped the zone but the ump calls it a ball so there is the walk.

Next batter I get him down 0-2. Catcher calls for a splitter below the zone but I want to go with a fastball above the zone. I unleash a 99mph heater that wasn't nearly as high as I wanted it and the batter (I forget who, some nobody on the 2021 Phillies) blasts it to dead center for the HR and my team is down 2-1.

Of course my useless teammates don't score in the bottom half and I'm handed my 7th loss of the season. I lead the league in strikeouts and 2nd in ERA at 1.93 and I'm 2-7. The Marlins suck. I can't wait to hit free agency.
