Re: The Graphics
The challenging part of colors for objects is when they're seen in a graphics engine. I mean, I can choose red, just red to color a cube in a modeling program, then put that cube in my graphics engine and it appears pinkish because of ambient lighting, hemisphere lighting, etc.
If I change my ambient lighting to accommodate the cube, then it would make other objects look wrong. It's complicated, but they have shader developers more capable than I am to get the proper results
A GLSL shader determines a color for each pixel on an object's surface.
I'm not saying their grass doesn't need to be more vibrant. It does. I don't know why they can't achieve that, but their entire shader system seems to mute all the colors in the game if you think about it. It seems to be their choice to have it like that.
I honestly do not know. But whatever they have going is simply not good enough anymore. It's looked like this for a decade pretty much in the field department with extremely small jumps.Comment

Re: The Graphics
I've never understood graphics complaints... or can't relate to them.. possibly because I came from the 16 and 32-bit generation.
I suppose I would understand if my teams jersey was the wrong color, or if they left out a specific skin tone.
All I really care about is smooth and realistic animations, and I think we have that.
If all they did was focus on gameplay additions year in and year that would be fine with me.
Grass and dirt just look so generic and the backgrounds look ehh. It's not special. Gameplay absolutely comes first. But I'm not blown away visually and it could look so much nicer .

Re: The Graphics
For me, it's not graphics in the classical sense of the word, but more the models and animations. The models are ancient looking (cloth physics should have happened years ago) and they just don't look right. The transitions to animations are just stiff.
Where I get irked is that this was all promised in the "wait for the ps4" stuff I heard. Well, it's here and capable of much more and yet the models still look mostly the same with some sharpened edges. Not at all current gen.Last edited by OUSOONERS#1; 02-08-2019, 02:44 AM.Comment

Re: The Graphics
To answer the OPs question, everything.
First of all, player models are terrible. Nothing looks natural. Either they look super boxy and stubby or they have octopus arms. Proportions haven't been good ever and probably haven't changed in what, 5 years?
Cloth physics are an embarrassment. End of the PS4 console cycle and for some reason jerseys are still glued to players like they are painted on. Good lord, MLB 2k7 and better cloth physics. Jerseys moved in the wind and look like they actually draped on the players body.
Player faces for most players in game look lifeless and eyes have this weird bug eyed stare that looks more creepy than anything else and the fact that you can easily discern who is a created player and who isn't is pretty telling. The CAP system has needed overhauled for probably 5 years now.
Grass and dirt aren't all that detailed and the textures lack depth. Grass just looks like grainy carpet and the dirt, well just looks like brown paint in most cases other than the occasional chunk that flies around here and there.
This one is kind of random but bent hats look like something a small child designed.
And the animations. This has literally been a complaint on this forum since MLB moved to next gen. Animations are stiff and lack fluidity. Pitching motions for the most part look horrible and it doesn't look like the pitcher is actually throwing the ball. The pitcher will go through this lifeless motion and the the ball will rocket out of their hand unnaturally. There are still awkward fielding animations in the game that existed in MLB 13 and their are bad swing animations that have been around just as long.
The aesthetic is stale and outdated. It worked for last gen, but something should have changed by now.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Honestly, truth hurts. And this is why they don't care about forums anymore, and why voices like this are just suffocated out. They literally don't care about criticism, and this is why we need a better baseball game on PC. EA or somebody needs to step up again with a qualified crew.Comment

Re: The Graphics
Honestly, there is no real incentive to put the time and energy required into upgrading animations, textures, and lighting with Diamond dynasty being the money maker. They realize that their audience is them now, and making money off those who play that mode have no real concern over animations being fluid, or dirt texture not resembling brown paint.
Diamond dynasty people are more concerned on mindlessly grinding to afford a card. It's the same as people who play free to play mobile games, which graphically look like gameboy games at best.Comment

Well then that is about it from me in this game then lol. I surely hope that is not true at least for the PS5 version.Comment

Re: The Graphics
IMO the graphics are ahead of the animations. Stadiums look great, even though I get the feeling some had more work put into them than others.
All of the PS4 gen games also suffered from inconsistent framerate, which was less an issue on PS3. I really don't think there's much more they can do with this until the next gen PS console (PS5?)Comment

Re: The Graphics
Correct, only if you zoom in on replays or lay the camera on the floor you see the grass turning 3d.
The weird thing is that in MLB 16 (I believe) the grass would be 3d while pitching but after you selected the pitch the grass would turn flat. So I think the PS4 just can’t process it in real time.
Hopefully the PS5 can tackle this limitation.
