Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday: Why Pre-Order
The same mechanic as to why user skill would be more important could impact Directional because of how they might make the PCI work.
No, "user skill" doesn't determine placement, but the game might just care about placement vs pitch location, not the interface that put it there. This would emphasize "user skill" by "rewarding" better placements and "punishing" anything not near center cut on the PCI.
That could easily be "ported" over to any other interface because all of them use the PCI.
It wouldn't be the first time online/PvP impacted offline/Directional play (see: bunts).
I believe they will reward better PCI placement by the user in zone hitting which is the most widely used interface for online Show players.
It remains to be seen and we will find out really quick after the game releases. And of course.....sliders are outstanding on this game and can be tweaked to compensate “offline” for any changes to the PCI placement in directional hitting.
Not concerned one bit about that hitting interface offline.
That bunting BS was garbage. Yet....I am able to effectively (not all the time just like IRL) bunt offline with guys who have high bunt ratings, and I have been able to sac with pitchers as well. The rocket bunts came from guys who simply got used to how easy and automatic bunting was pre MLB 17. It was practically automatic every single time which was also...bad game design. Bunting in it’s current state on 18 is really a feel and timing thing. You just can’t square early and get an automatic sac or bunt hit.
Bunting needs to be fixed...no doubt. That band aid was awful and a horrible decision in how it affected offline gamers. But it was not impossible to bunt. Not by any stretch for me.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 02-11-2019, 08:58 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday: Why Pre-Order
no sports game will be perfect because they have to make them every year.
You know what the logical thing to do would be?? have ONE yes ONE sports game create that ONE sports game. Called MLB The show. simple as that
and every year update it I would pay $15 for a roster update say $5 for a unifrom update for all teams. or stadium updates. then you can have DLC and they can still make their DD garbage money from other people by updating that as well.
Look at GTA they have done it for 6 years with the online mode by adding features by still keeping their money.
Seeing as they are a small team this would work, they will still get the DD money. they would get DLC money from new modes and updates.
They can patch the game and bugs. once that is all fixed less work to do with a small team and can focus on new things.. and features won't be taken out all the time they can add to the game. there is NO EXCUSE at all with room people have 4 TB Hard drives now. look how big gta isI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday: Why Pre-Order
Someone mentioned that with each new console, more resources would be required. With the PS5 looming... would it be reasonable to assume that SDS would hire a few more bodies? Would hate to see a port over for the first few iterations of the PS5.
I see the biff about no “new” tag on Franchise, but do they even have a full-time programmer working with franchise? Maybe a lack of staff is equating to a lack of updates in that mode? Am I way off course here? I still find it hard to understand why a very successful big name developer has a small staff still after all these years. It’s not like that can’t afford more programmers. Just blabbing out loud here.Comment

They mostly are getting away with releasing about 80% of the same game every year with a roster update. and DD stuffComment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday: Why Pre-Order
If its true that they only have 1 programmer for franchise mode then that would explain the lack of advancement in that mode. They clearly are not prioritizing it. The programmer spends all of his time updating the menus.Comment

Last year I skipped the Show for the first time ever. Looks more and more like it will be two years in a row.Comment

Truly dreadful.
Its says a lot when there are many OS veterans on here who, like myself, are totally washed up with this game.
DD, Stubs, DD, Stubs, yada yada.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday: Why Pre-Order
As I read this thread I wonder which video people are commenting on. Seems like many are still commenting on the pre-order video when that was not actually the main Gamestop Monday video.
The one released later in the day was at least about the subjects that they are going to talk about in Thursdays streams. And that had at least one comment that sounded promising and that was that contact hitters had value again.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Video - GameStop Monday
I worry that MLB The Show is going to become what the NHL series has. Some campy, goofy game that only kind of looks like the sport it should be.
I used to pre-order the NHL series every year, because it was fun and they constantly worked to improve things. Now, EA's motto may as well be "If it doesn't improve multiplayer, it's not in the game".Comment

It cracks me up that this thread is still going. A real legit video with actual gameplay and new information was released last night. There’s not really a reason to be mad about this one anymore as it was just a one off.
