Re: MLB The Show 19 - New Features Explained (Ramone Russell Interview)

This video is nothing but groundhog day, a rerun from iteration 2015,16,17, and 18. The same jargon, same humanity AI multi branch, pitch. Stop me when you here him say "granularity".

They would been better served saying hey we have been working on defense since 2015 and unfortunately because we have an annual release date, so we can't perfect it, now in 2019 after building on the foundation of each iteration we have gotten close to our goal.

Instead they are pitching this stuff as something new by changing the feature name, instead of saying 2.0 or 1.5.

      The Show 15

      Defense 1.0

Advanced AI logic results in outfielders taking more realistic routes to the ball

Upgraded motion system allows for dynamic speed matching from run to catch to throw

      User controlled cut offs

All new slide and tag system

New situational base covering intelligence allows for new animations to play when a player has time or is in a hurry to get to his base

More than 70 new situational third out fielding animations

The Show16 they improved these and added "out of position" 1.0.Humanity AI introduced fielders know who is on the base path and will act accordingly.

The Show 17 added multi branch animations for throws.

The Show 18 improved upon and added animations to a host of scenarios that wasn't covered by the AI system.

EA for Madden use to call this the 3 year plan.

Did not learn much if anything after watching this. Save yourself 11 minutes. There is no new videos or screenshots.

That tag looks really good, like the glove is actually touching the runner and the fielders arm gets pulled in that direction. Love it.

Your right. it's just one of those years where I think for the first time I just trying to hype myself up in the past I couldn't wait and would count down the days. Maybe I am getting old? but I think the game is just getting rather stale and the ps5 is around the corner so it's a lot of just having to bring a game out now till then.

it's sports game it actually isn't all the companies fault. they are asked to release the same game every year.

It's hard to sell a game on gameplay changes with just talk and video, as you can't really convince people of anything other than your intent, especially if you're saying things you've said before.

New features are the easiest selling points imo, but they've been a bit thin on the ground lately so it's tough on the guys like Ramone selling the game. It's a bit tough as how the game actually plays is the most important thing, but that is hard to really express in words and little clips, especially for a baseball game where it's really more about seeing things happen repeatedly and getting variance as opposed to a flashy highlight reel.

Has MLB the Show ever released a demo? Just maybe a 3 inning game for people to try out?

They used to do a demo way back but those days are long gone. Plus the demo never really feels like a close representation of the final.

I think countryboy played a season’s worth of demo games one year.

Haha, cheep git! it does feel like thy could easily put a 3 inning demo of the finished game up a week or two before release and that would massively help sales (unless the game is garbage, but that seems unlikely) I feel like all the other sports games do it (not with finished builds I don't think, but pretty decent)

If you were confident in your work, a demo would surely be a far more effective sales pitch than any amount of talking or twitch streams when it comes to pure gameplay?

Actually a demo takes a bit of time, time I would think was better spent polishing the final.

Not really. Demos are actually generally correlated with fewer sales. Most publishers won't waste resources on something that might change someone's mind about the game. Think about it, people only try demos if they are interested in the game already, which means they play it and like it so they purchase the game anyway. OR they don't like the demo and decide not to buy it, so the publisher ends up losing a sale that they might have had otherwise. Think of any bad game you bought that you probably wouldn't have if there was a demo available.

Maybe I'm weird then as I used to pretty much download every demo I could to try and find games I might like, I ended up playing and buying a bunch I never would have bought otherwise. Maybe that's not the norm.

I'm really worried about the language surrounding out of position players. Is there going to be an even bigger penalty for players playing one of their secondary positions as well?

Are utility players impossible under this system?

This reeks of yet another "fix" for online exploits that hurts us offline only players.

My biggest issue with the current system is it does not allow any learning for a new position. I also don’t agree that if a player is out of position he automatically becomes inept at catching a basic ball thrown to him.

you are correct. remember the video they showed a year or 2 ago about out of position players, and they had a example or players throwing to first base with the firstbaseman being the out of position player and showing that he only is catching the ball like once or twice out of 10. Now i dont know about you guys, but you would NEVER make the big leagues if you cannot catch a simple ball thrown to you.
