The upcoming release of the PS5 is why some of you should be patient with SDS

Maybe we’ll just have to reconsider our expectations for graphical leaps in general. The biggest jump was from the ps2 era to the ps3 because we went from SD to HD. That was such a massive improvement that we expected the same going to the ps4 but the visual upgrades just aren’t gonna be that big in the future I’m afraid.

There is no way that makes economic sense. You are suggesting a 25% drop in the price and expecting more work to get done. They are already working year round. Plus, a ton of gamers would take this as an opportunity to also buy the game every other year, and many of them would smartly choose the $30 version.

Player models upgrades could be limited by the time it takes to upgrade them, or by the engine itself, as it probably isn't aging to well. A one year cycle to switch to a new engine is impossible. Even if they did somehow miraculously manage to do it, they would have to strip a lot of features out of the game.

I definitely don't like every improvement that the SDS team makes, nor do I approve of their focus in improvements every year, but I am constantly floored with the amount of work these guys get done season to season.

TLDR; they can't make these large changes because they just don't have the time.
Wouldn't common sense dictate you grow then?

No, look at the '13 version (basically the last year PS3 was the primary console for sports games) of other AAA sports titles and compare it to their '18 successor on the PS4. The graphical evolution by the Show is the least impressive of all AAA sports titles.

I am in the playoffs of my 3rd full season of playing all 162.

I maybe average...5 rain delays a year, give or take???

But in terms of gameplay....it is miles ahead of Madden and NHL. I can't talk for Fifa....despise soccer. NBA 2K has also been a very nice upgrade from the PS3 in terms of gameplay. But they obviously really ramped up MyLeague and created MyGM.

That is where the Show has fell a little flat.

Graphics? Still a very nice looking game to me. However the colors, weather effects, day/night cycle, audio and overall lighting took a really big leap from the PS3 era.....that never seems to get talked about at all. Stunning compared to the PS3 actually. And the ballparks are vastly better. And on the PS4 pro the game plays silky smooth and the frame rate is vastly better than the PS3 (as it should be).

Madden does a nice job of capturing what teams are doing each year. It certainly can't be argued that its 'dated'

I think MLBTS is a better representation of their sport in terms of an accurate sim. Madden isn't much more than an arcade game at this point... but I wouldn't argue either has more playability in comparison to the other.

                  Both are *grossly* lacking features
                  Both need serious franchise overhauls
Neither is great in terms of customization

PS5 is definitely not the cure for those ills.

.. I would pick MLBTS as the better product right now, but I wouldn't say that by a considerable margin.

... looking thru the birdseye over Redwood, those MS rumors may be true, and if Madden ever got the shot in the arm that it so desperately needs, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

Here is where I have an issue with Madden. There is virtually no player differentiation, teams do not have distinct personalities and playing vs the CPU on The Show is a vastly different experience than playing the CPU on Madden.

Madden is fun. I enjoy the game for what it is. Arcade hybrid. It could be so much more. We know that. Franchise modes stopped evolving somewhere around 2010 (except NBA 2K)

The Show replicates it's sport amazingly IMO. And I am a hard core baseball guy. So maybe I am more slanted to baseball.....but I have been playing console sports games of all the major sports going on 36 years.

I think he means on the aggregate. In two years now, they get 60+60=120. With this system they would get 60+30 = 90. So they’re taking a 25% hit. So realistically, to expect the same level of changes, you’d need 90 for the games price with a good indication that enough people would buy the update. Which I would pay if it meant that the development could take some presentation resources and apply them to the core. But no one else pay that because of shortsightedness, so alas, here we are.

You must not be a basketball fan. In a combination of sports representation and depth of franchise mode, NBA2K is more advanced. I understand if you don't agree with me, but to say The Show blows every game out is rather extreme and inaccurate.

Agreed. I am not even a huge basketball fan anymore and even I have to admit that NBA 2k is a great game. I am a bigger baseball fan than basketball but NBA 2K team tried to add to MY GM/ MY league as much as possible.

I mean come on; fully customizable relocation and expansion, even freaking rule changes! NBA 2k my league is definitely the gold standard of what a franchise mode can and should be. He only deal breaker is that NBA 2k progression is a complete mess. Out of the box everyone becomes a borderline all star. Yes they give you sliders to help, but the guys over in the 2k sliders forum have been trying for months to get progression right and they still can't get a grip on it 4 months later. This is where the show shines in my opinion. One of the better player professsion systems in sports gaming in my opinion. It's strictly production based which can be frustrating at times because I don't have time to play every minor league game, but at least I know why guys are progressions and declining and it makes sense. All you have to do is look in the numbers. I just wish they would update training, scouting, and the draft. Been the same for the last 5 years

Now that is deviation countryboy! Kudos. I am an admitted heavy simmer lol. I like to play multiple franchises with multiple teams. Last year I did at least one franchise per team, at least 5 years deep each mixing in critical moments and playing important games only. I just love watching guys develop. Team building brings me joy

Have to agree. Past the franchise stuff though, watch some of Da Czar videos. The little things like spacing and shading actually make the difference in whether or not a basket happens. I am very much impressed with the level of nuance that the game play shows. Obviously they have some balance issues, but they have great sliders that let you customize every single thing.

This is not to knock The Show, it’s very good. But that is a great product.
