10 new Rays were scanned, so we will have more scanned faces than the youtube/twitch streamers! Wasn't sure that was actually going to be the case tbh, I wonder if they've bothered updating all the DD player card pics, as I think the Rays had about 4 players actually with cards of them as Rays by the end of last year!

As for us putting our own faces in, it would be pretty simple as you could do it 10 years ago on a lot of sports games, but they all seemed to remove it as a feature for some reason. Presumably the face generating software took up a ton of space (maybe it did it online actually? Can't remember)

Completely incorrect only obtain has ever been in the game before having had 1 at bat or pitched a innings, unless your thinking of call ups in September

A quote from the article that intrigues me.

"Two weeks ago was MLB The Show photo day at Tampa Bay Rays camp. Ten new Rays needed to be added to the game for the 2019 release, so a crew from the game company set up 46 cameras to take 46 simultaneous high-definition photos from 360 degrees. Using proprietary software, the images were sent off to Sony, where animators will produce the digital version of each player."

That sounds like players that needed a new scan or didn't have one, got scanned this spring training and will be in THIS year's game. I'm assuming some top prospects that are expected to be called up this year (Vlad Jr, Tatis Jr, Eloy, Senzel, etc) will have their face scan ready to go once they get called up and put into the game. I do remember them last year saying that face scans done during Spring Training 2018 were going to be in the game for 2019. Maybe the process is more efficient now, who knows.

MLB 2004 (The Show's grandfather) was the only baseball game that year to have Hideki Matsui in it. Also, Fukudome a few years later. So yes, there have been rookies in the game who haven't had a single appearance yet, but these were all special circumstances.

As for this article, if it's the same as it's always been, the scans done this spring are for The Show 20.

I dont think that’s correct, why even bother writing an article for additions to next years game? I think it’s for this year. I could be wrong but my thinking is it’s for this year.

if the pictures were taken 2 weeks ago there is no way they will have those scans in the game in time.

they will be used for next year. vlad Jr etc will more then likely be a created player, it would be nice though if they were to have them hidden on the disk with audio and all. and then it just unlocks when they are allowed to be on the roster. Then again if they are paying for the rights of him and it doesn't matter why would it have to be hidden anyway? (like Ohtani)

Doesn’t the article mention about 10 Rays scans they did for this years game?

Yup, so why advertise for next year game.

                          It wasn't an "advertisement."

It was a story written by an ESPN columnist who probably knows nothing detailed about the Show other than it's a baseball game.

It's not unrealistic to assume that he saw the cameras, wrote a fun story, and assumed they were for this years game. It's highly unlikely that he knew, historically that spring training scans are for next years game. On top of that, it's more likely no one who knows better, would care enough to point that out.

It would be great to be pleasantly surprised, but as was pointed out before, logistically, it's highly unlikely these could be done for a game releasing in a couple weeks.

Maybe they could be done in time for an update later on during the year.

Maybe it’s taken a year previously just because of the sheer volume of players being scanned. Now that most players are already in the game SDS can speed up the process for newly scanned players.

                            It’d be nice.

How are most players that need to be scanned already scanned?

It's not like this is something they are playing catch up on. They've been scanning players every Spring for at least the last three years.

I might be wrong on this. But I don't think their has been a year where players have been added to the roster with face scans and audio. only created players from SCEA. even veterans missing who were in previous games (Brett Anderson for example last year) turn out to be created players
