I also play RTTS casually because I can save it. If I get back to it great, if not, no big deal. I might try this mode, but like many others have said, with its current limitations, it probably won't get more than 10-15 hours play from me. Plus, I just don't like simming that many games. I thought I would like the current moments (I forget the name) mode within franchise (I do play it for the minor league teams) but I prefer to play the full game instead of random moments. That said, if storylines in this mode can be incorporated into franchise in the future, it is a win win.
Until I play the MTO I can't say for sure, but I see myself using this as my main mode and trying it with several teams. (This is all predicated on it being engaging, fun, etc.) Like you I'll play RTTS casually, and I may actually play RTTS more this year.

I really don't have time to grind 162 games, so I'll be skipping franchise mode this year. I'll get my kicks for running a team GM style from OOTP, which last year basically took all of my baseball gaming time away from The Show. The lack of depth in franchise mode simply doesn't hold my attention, especially once you start getting deep in to OOTP franchises.

So for me, MTO works out perfect. I'll get to play games that will push a narrative and hopefully keep me engaged while not having to grind out 162 game season.

All of the DD rewards and stuff I don't care about. The card collecting, rewards stuff I have zero interest in.

You can only use the base rosters that ship with the game in MTO. They saiid they would update them until the very last minute they can.

For those who grind stats in DD, it’s good that you can do it in MTO. Certainly makes the grinders more likely to play it and maybe enjoy more than they thought they would. I highly doubt it will be part of the Team Epics grind.

I don’t generally do alot of grinding, so I probably won’t play it. But if was going to, I’d rather do it in MTO with some storylines and cool stories, then just playing Conquest or Play vs. CPU games.

If the rosters are out of date, the mode will fail. Not a good decision on SCEAs part.

Only thing they have in mind at SDS is cards, rewards, stubs, DD rewards.

They completely made abstraction of those who just want to play for fun and emulate a baseball franchise.

But for people who just want to dabble briefly (maybe while taking a break from franchise/DD/RTTS), the draw would be to get through an entire team's "narrative" in a sitting (a few hours) and then move on and do another team. And another. And another. So the time commitment being alluded to here is really when factoring in you're multiplying the single play-through time by 30, and also in the context that this isn't going to be your primary mode anyway. That was my takeaway rather than people that were complaining about too short are now complaining about too long. If it's going to take 15-20 hours per team, then less people might see this mode as a quick hit or a break from the longer gameplay mission they're on.

For people that plan on playing this mode primarily, then 15-20 hours seems like a perfectly reasonable amount of time for a play-through.

Yeah, this is what was meant by my post. Not sure how, or why, it was interpreted any other way.

While I do notice a shift, as we do across all console sports games and it is a disturbing trend, I agree. Thank God for PC games like OOTP and FOF8.

However, saying it's now Candy Crush era and intimating you can't play for fun to emulate a baseball franchise is simply hyperbole for effect.

I agree with you here. At the end of the day, it is a business. As much as I hate the attention that has gone from “single-player” modes, I can understand the extra monetization of gaming. It just would be nice to see that extra cash, or more of it, put back into the game. But to equate things like DD to candy crush misses the mark.

I apologize in advance, as I am sure this has been answered somewhere, but is this mode only a single season? I don't really understand the point of the mode if so. Wouldn't the main benefit of being able to get through an entire season quickly be to get deeper into a franchise?

I could see myself playing this mode if it was an option within franchise mode so that I could get further into a franchise and still have the ability to control many of the larger aspects of team building, but otherwise I see no benefit. Am I missing something?

Yes, you play thru the 2019 season with one team. At the end of the year, you're given the option to take this team into Franchise Mode and begin in the 2020 season.

Which would be great, with customized rosters. Perhaps a future version will turn off rewards and allow custom rosters, but as is, MTO would just something to kill time for me until rosters drop.

That is what I thought I heard as well. That makes it very enticing to me. If you use custom rosters and your edits. Carrying over to a full franchise mode is sweet.
