MLB the show I think is the only sports game there is where you can control all 30 teams in a franchise which is a 100% MUST. my fear is over the changes and lack of changes to franchise over the last few years that it maybe heading into that same direction.

What worries me is next year they will 'that's it we are going to rework franchise from scratch' thrus we get a CFM type mode where there is no longer 30 team control . and we get a bare bones thing that is limited like M2O is. and over a 6 year span different things get re added but we have taken 6 steps back to go 3 steps forward.

I am completely speculating here, they have said several times all the new features people want can't be added to this current franchise they have. which is why it never makes it into the game, so the only way is to start from the ground up. and the first thing will go is 30 team control when this happens. I believe madden has never recovered since that was taken out (I am aware that now you can spend 2 hours making 32 team profiles but that mode isn't designed for 32 team control)
In Madden 17, the last version I bought, I controlled all 32 teams, and once I got done prepping the profiles, I found it no more burdensome to control all the teams than I do currently for Madden 12. The only reason I don't play it anymore is the wind effects on punts. I actually liked that I could go from depth chart to organizational moves, and suffer through going from menu to menu with Madden 12 simply because I don't see 15 yard punts with 12.
And I can control all the teams in NBA2K19, while letting the CPU handle playing time and G-league while I handled trades, waivers and coach firings.

But your concern about a rebuild then having to go start basic and then get back to where we are currently is legit given what we've seen with Madden, if they chose to go down this path of re-working franchise. However, I have more faith that SDS would strive to get a re-worked framework closer to what they have currently then I do in EA to do the same with their games.

In fact 32 team control returned on Madden 25 and has been there ever since (it was nerfed on madden 13 the only time it was gone when they moved to the CFM model) You can control all aspects or turn some functions to auto, just like MLB The Show and the NBA 2K series.

With madden it takes about 20 minutes to set up 32 team control using existing coaches. If you want to make custom coaches from scratch....about 45 minutes.

Once it is set up.....it’s done.

You are being far too paranoid about this. My opinion of course. But SDS and 2K are not EA. Not even close.

I don’t believe for a second SDS would take away 30 team control and also.....they don’t have to start franchise mode from scratch.....not in the least bit. And that is another incredibly head scratching thing for a lot of us who enjoy franchise mode. There is a lot of good and great things about it already.....what they need to do is simply refine and upgrade the base they have. And they know this.

A total stripped down franchise mode? Nope. With The Show I do not see that happening.

Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show? Lord man. What can anyone say constructively about a hyperbole statement like that. I mean come on man. Really? LOL.

Because there were no “in your opinion” significant additions to franchise mode the end is near for the game?

I think it is more like the end is near for you playing the game.

If it is stale.....then don’t play. But there are 100’s of thousands of Show fans who disagree.

A game that plays really well and replicates it’s sport as good as this game.....never gets stale for me. The gameplay improvements every single cycle have been outstanding. The presentation improvements have been outstanding. Every cycle they have improved the presentation and that is what keeps a game/franchise mode vibrant for my taste.....not more menus and spreadsheets.

Anyway.....looking forward to 19 big time!!!!!
But as I stated I should not have to spend 2 hours creating 32 profiles before I start a franchise. then spending hours among hours re ordering the depth charts which CFM mode screws up as soon as you do it. so all the roster work is pointless. it took them 5 years for us to actually be able to have Long Snapper at the LS position.

Yes you can use 32 team control but how would the average person know how to do it?? it is a ridiculous amount of steps to pull off. rather then 1 click select all take 2 seconds like it used to do. and you have to select the team to make a move

and once you have spend hours upon hours creating 32 profiles and fixing the depth charts again. about 200 free agents VANISH from the system. never to be seen again. most of them being Long Snappers. because lower rated guys.

Anyway you get my point on madden. the PS2 games of that game were glorious. and create a player you actually had more options back then with faces and you could create NON rookies back then too. instead they turned it into what it is a designed single player that was created for Online franchise for a casual player.

Complete agree with you that this isn't near the end, but franchise has red flags for me maybe I am paranoid I hope I am wrong and you are right.

I get you on Madden. Yes it can be cumbersome. And yes on PS2....it was glorious in terms of ease of use and features etc.

I hope you are wrong!!! LOL.

Does that include presentation that gives more life and personality into the players and organizations and what's happening around the league? Does it include more news/radio show expansion to actually tell me what's going on in my universe without having to hunt menus/other rosters or stumble on them checking leaderboards?

I expect to have to use some imagination, but I expect games to "help me out" a little by showing me some storylines, breakout players, or player personalities or actions. I.e. "off the field" presentation like on MLBN.

Because that's every bit as important to franchise mode as what happens when the stadium lights are on...in fact, it's what leads up to gameday.

It not being there doesn't make franchise mode bad or whatever - but I can't say it's would be the same refreshing for me.

Still on the fence about MLB 19 as a result.

Maybe when the game is out and there's more showing with actual franchise management and off the field presentation and such, I'll see something to kick me over, but based on what's been said - not yet.

The developers are smart enough to realize franchise has a lot of customers. They won't remove franchise but it won't get a lot of attention either. Basically a roster update with improved gameplay and a couple minor additions is what franchise will continue to be.

The biggest turn off for me isn't the show but what MLB itself is doing with some of the proposed rule changes. The beauty of the game is there is no clock and yet they are trying to find gimmicks to speed it up. Speed up a game which doesn't have a clock.

I don't see Franchise ending. I don't see MLB The Show ending. I think they are in a weird time at the moment but I believe we'll get through this and Franchise will get some work. I think the feedback this year will be something they have to take note and now know Franchise can't take a backseat next year.

This game is still a definite must buy for me.

Franchise mode isn’t going anywhere. The mode may not be improving at the pace we want, or even think it should, but it is improving.

It’s not like the mode is getting zero updates year after year.

these changes are being made because of television and its viewing public.

Baseball at a ball park and on tv is totally different experience. IMO, most games on television outside of the playoffs is "must nap tv"..

and at the ballpark its more about the casual,conversational/veg out atmosphere just as much as it is about the game. Baseball is the only sport that I feel is better at the ballpark than it is on television.

If it werent for television they wouldn't need the changes.

While HDTV helped, hockey is still much better at the arena.

At an alarming rate. In fact, by 2022, scientists expect that MLB The Show will be entirely below sea level.

Same here. I find hockey to be rather boring on TV, but a ton of fun live.

I will say although the game isn't coming to a end and my worries about franchise.

I have noticed a drop off on this forum, it's almost like a gravyard on here. there was a time I would see replies within seconds on threads.

either forums really are a dying bread and everyone is arguing and ranting on social media with lame memes and using the word 'salty' every post (hate that new gen of a word) with each other with 7k comments or maybe people the hardcore guys on here really have stopped playing the show.

I'm hoping that Google Stadia ends up producing a killer baseball game, because I am NOT buying a PS5. I bought a PS4 just for this one single title, and as an offline franchise player, I can't see myself ever doing that again.

I'm glad to be satisfied with MLB 18. With the minimal advancements to the mode I play, plus the work that goes into doing all the SOTS work and such, it seems like MLB 19 would be more hassle than it's worth. I've got a franchise going that I enjoy, one that has carried over from MLB 16 and 17, and I can't think of a single reason to carry it over again and do all of that work.
