Re: Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show?
I will say although the game isn't coming to a end and my worries about franchise.
I have noticed a drop off on this forum, it's almost like a gravyard on here. there was a time I would see replies within seconds on threads.
either forums really are a dying bread and everyone is arguing and ranting on social media with lame memes and using the word 'salty' every post (hate that new gen of a word) with each other with 7k comments or maybe people the hardcore guys on here really have stopped playing the show.
I think the message boards are not a good barometer of how many people are playing a game. I think you have a point in what these boards have become (I told CB the other day that I need to stay away as this isn't a place of learning and helping as much as it used to be). But if we're going to use the boards as a barometer, given what I see in my own franchise and what others said about their experiences with 18, I choose to believe that it may be the melty-saltiness of the boards that keep hardcore players away from here as they are busy now just playing the game, and will do so in the future.Comment

Re: Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show?
I'm hoping that Google Stadia ends up producing a killer baseball game, because I am NOT buying a PS5. I bought a PS4 just for this one single title, and as an offline franchise player, I can't see myself ever doing that again.
I'm glad to be satisfied with MLB 18. With the minimal advancements to the mode I play, plus the work that goes into doing all the SOTS work and such, it seems like MLB 19 would be more hassle than it's worth. I've got a franchise going that I enjoy, one that has carried over from MLB 16 and 17, and I can't think of a single reason to carry it over again and do all of that work.
I also bought the PS4 just for the show. But I am glad I did buy it, as I found when Xbox got rid of the ability to keep the game from blanking out after 10 minutes of inactivity, it screwed up my experiences with (at the time) Madden and NBA2k. Now I get games where I will do CPU v CPU for PS4 only so I'm happy I made that move in the end. The Xbox is relegated to role playing games where I have to be active on the screen.Comment

Re: Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show?
I think it is getting stale, for sure.
Gameplay is great though. MLBTS is the best baseball game ever made from that standpoint.
Maybe somebody could do it better. But why have that conversation?
As far as the rest.. I think most of us have been down this road before; Madden, circa-PS3.
Its a shame Sony doesn't embrace the modding community... Jerseys would be fixed in no time.. Custom jerseys, check.. Custom logos.. Custom Leagues.. Stadiums, retro and otherwise.. turn us loose with a roster editor and this game would be baseballs w@t dream.
It took about 10 years for me to give up on Madden. Before it became an experience that wasn't enjoyable. I'm a LONG ways from saying that about MLBTS.You want free speech?

Re: Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show?
I will throw in my two cents in this thread. I only read the first four pages and the last page though.
As others have mentioned, the gameplay in The Show is fantastic, and it’s my favorite part of the long running series. I think people get too caught up in modes and the lack of new offerings that they tend to forget how great the game is as it is. Like ungratefulness so to speak. But at the same time it’s hard to play the same game year after year after year without getting bored. So it’s hard to win and it’s probably hard for Sony to keep things new and exciting.
I’m more of a gameplay and presentations fan. I love seeing updates like new and better animation, stadium improvements, graphics improvements, new details that make the game more life like and so on. I’m hoping for the PS5 there will be a new engine for the game. I think it will bring new life to the series. I feel like it’s been the same since 2006.
As it is though, when I boot up the game I always remind myself that before this series existed there was never a Baseball simulator as good as this. And it makes me appreciate it a whole lot more. Games like MVP 2005, even MVP NCAA 2006 and 7 were great, but not spectacular like this series. And I think most people agree that MLB 2K series was pretty bad.Comment

It's amazing how dead this forum is with less than a week to release. Nothing like it would of been 5 years ago, with OS community breaking down new features and gameplay videos.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195

The only forum with more current viewers than this one is NBA 2K. And there is a massive drop-off to #3. I'm not sure there is evidence to back up what seems to be wishful thinking.Comment

First MLB itself is dying and now the Show is dying. I'll believe it when I see it.Comment

When I made the comment, NCAA Football Gaming subforum had more current viewers than this one although that's not the point. The comment is more about SDS Sony giving us to talk about than anything else.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195

Re: Are we nearing the end of MLB The Show?
I think so! Trying to have faith in what Chris Gil was preaching this year in regards to actually being able to play more user controlled defense. Considering I play a player locked SS. He mentioned the new updates affect all modes of play.
But you can't tell me that MLB The Show Franchise guys who play NBA 2k don't cry each time they see this option in 2k and not in MLB The Show!
It will show up next year but by that time everyone will be over it! As it's a small feature with big impact that is so long over do! It might be incentive to some to purchase MLB The Show 20 if they allow it.
These small but huge little features get over looked and new game modes pop up each year! According to some magical data feedback. Instead of fixing or enhancing core modes unfortunately.

Every time I read the title of this thread the voice of Jim Morrison echo’s in my head:
“This is the end.....beautiful friend the end”
