Finally picked up MLB 18 The Show yesterday after seeing it at Wallyworld on clearance for 10 dollars, must be making room for this years edition. While I was originally going to skip 18, I'm actually amazed at all the little things the game does well and the overall improvements. How smooth the fielding is, how smooth the transitions are on the whole, no more often stuttering that permeated most years in transitions from gameplay to presentation cuts. The entire experience is very smooth and a HUGE HUGE improvement to how the game plays and how it feels on the field.
Using the OS official rosters and Mike Lowe's sliders I'm absolutely loving the hit variety in 18, I'm having very varied results in my Bosox franchise so far just actually finishing a nail bitter in my home opener 5-4 against the Rays that was back and forth all game long. The amount of new animations I'm noticing throughout the game are quite clean, smooth, and impressive, as are all the little presentation touches that are all over the product. If 19 continues this trend I'm certainly going to snag it down the line. But for now what a game of baseball 18 plays.
Really really impressed after feeling that the last few iterations didn't really do much to improve the on field experience beyond just adding new modes outside of franchise mode that for me, I had little to no interest in. So to see all the improvements in the actual gameplay itself is a huge and pleasant surprise. I think the changes to the commentary team were also a major step forward as the commentary flows so much better now and it feels more authentic and less "hammy" than the past couple years. Really enjoying it so far and I feel like I stole it getting it on such a deep discount.
