Re: Can we talk about gameplay?

Finally picked up MLB 18 The Show yesterday after seeing it at Wallyworld on clearance for 10 dollars, must be making room for this years edition. While I was originally going to skip 18, I'm actually amazed at all the little things the game does well and the overall improvements. How smooth the fielding is, how smooth the transitions are on the whole, no more often stuttering that permeated most years in transitions from gameplay to presentation cuts. The entire experience is very smooth and a HUGE HUGE improvement to how the game plays and how it feels on the field.

Using the OS official rosters and Mike Lowe's sliders I'm absolutely loving the hit variety in 18, I'm having very varied results in my Bosox franchise so far just actually finishing a nail bitter in my home opener 5-4 against the Rays that was back and forth all game long. The amount of new animations I'm noticing throughout the game are quite clean, smooth, and impressive, as are all the little presentation touches that are all over the product. If 19 continues this trend I'm certainly going to snag it down the line. But for now what a game of baseball 18 plays.

Really really impressed after feeling that the last few iterations didn't really do much to improve the on field experience beyond just adding new modes outside of franchise mode that for me, I had little to no interest in. So to see all the improvements in the actual gameplay itself is a huge and pleasant surprise. I think the changes to the commentary team were also a major step forward as the commentary flows so much better now and it feels more authentic and less "hammy" than the past couple years. Really enjoying it so far and I feel like I stole it getting it on such a deep discount.

My sacs are not rocket bunts. Legit bunts.

Do rocket bunts happen? Yes they sometimes do. But I figured out how to get down sacs most of the time.

Fortunately this aspect of the game is being fix for 19!

Yes I believe they said the increase will apply to online. I forget which levels where the diff increases above All Star but they’ll receive the speed boost as well.

I highly doubt it, but I guess there is a slim chance.

My friend works in retail and he said that most major retailers have dates programmed into their register systems. I once asked about early release but he said that their registers block any sales before release time. It's why only mom and pop shops can sell it early. Highly doubtful that they would honor that release date.

Oh yeah. I was stoked for a few hours thinking that I had the hook up and boom, my dreams just blew up right in front of me. This was back for '16 so it has been a few years.

Yeah, the upgrade with IF defensive fielding and having three levels to catch a baseball from will be somewhat unnoticeable but a substantial change and quality of life improvement.

Funny story about this. I think it was The Show 15, I went to Walmart and I always look at the games every time I go there. And it was like a week before release day and I saw the game on the shelf. I'm like holy ****.

So I asked if I could get it and the lady went to ring it up and it wouldn't work. So she's like oh that's weird. I can't remember what the register said when she tried to ring it up, but she said Oh well, I'll just ring it up as general merchandise. And I got it.

I'm geeked for the fielding and contact hitter "buff". The defensive stream really cemented a purchase for me, as if there was any doubt. Ball physics have improved year by year. Adding more to the presentation side will add to my franchise experience. March to October being the seed to a new franchise mode has me ready. Thank God I have the wife I have, she supports my habit. THEY DO EXIST!

I’m skeptical about the new defense after watching the devs play on stream and miss both a line drive to the OF and a grounder up the middle because the fielder ran past the ball instead of attempting to field it. I’m sure the changes they implemented will be good, but when these are still present, that’s pretty discouraging

I believe those were user controlled fielders so the misplay was user error.
