    Alrighty...

Ellsbury is worth roughly -$5.28 million in surplus.

Cueto is worth roughly -$11.7 million in surplus.

Call it even and swap them or Giants can add a very minor piece worth about $6 million in surplus.

So before I start my Rangers franchise, I'd really like to move Shin-Soo Choo. Any trade I could possibly make? haha He has a trade value of $36M but it looks like the Surplus Value is -6.

Teams looking for outfield help that also can dump a contract in return are your likely bets. Why everyone likes the idea of Ellsbury for Cueto so much! Nobody is going to willingly take on Choo unless you give them an incentive to do so.

Good point. Cueto's contract is just way too large to take on.

Interesting little thread here, gonna try it out

As we know, the Sox’s pen situation is rather rough. Looking to possibly add an arm from Baltimore to the squad, in Mychal Givens. Been a fan of his for a few years, but sort of iffy on his value, particularly after last season. Any idea on a package it would take? Considering both that it’s inter-division and Givens is coming off a down year.

              Good to see you!

              Givens is tricky...

From my math and expected ARB outcome he is still worth $38.4 million in surplus which comes out to some decent pieces coming back to Baltimore. If you want me to try and configure a deal I can do my best, but want you to see he is still pretty expensive.

Expensive and rightfully so. As we know the Sox don't have much depth in the farm, but the only 3 players I'm really hesitant to give up is Darwinzon, Groome and Feltman. Other than that, I'd be willing to deal anyone else.

Glad to see this back on the go Bard! Always a great forum filled with debate and trade options.

Are we considering an inter-divisional tax on trades like this? Obviously Baltimore is a probably a bit different right now, as they're essentially a large dumpster-fire, and should be looking to cash in wherever they can, but I'd assume that we have to add a bit if the trades are in the same division?

Always my honour to do this thread!

So, I have always thought of an additional $5-10 million of surplus for inter-divisional dealings...depending on the player obviously! Then for a team like the Orioles they just want to try and stockpile as much talent as possible because well, they're just not going to be good.

                      So...

Chavis, the Sox top prospect is worth $20million in surplus.

                      Orioles Receive:
                      Michael Chavis
                      Triston Casas
                      Darwinson Hernandez

                      Red Sox Receive:
                      Mychal Givens

Only way I can see this deal going down.

I have Mychal Givens value at roughly $73

I'd say Chavis and another 50FV prospect....not really familiar with Sox farm system or lack thereof

Or you could always sign Kimbrel. I could see a scenario where Boston brings Kimbrel back if their bullpen is struggling and in need of an upgrade before the trade deadline rolls around. He’d be by far their best chance at a significant upgrade before the trade market develops. That’s assuming he remains unsigned long enough of course.

Difference in the way we formulate! Still believe fully he has $38 million in surplus. Last year he had around $80 I believe.

Even using Frangraphs I have him lower ar exactly $30 million.
