Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well, I took a chance and changed my mind after the first series I played on All-Star difficulty and continued onward with it. I am currently five and one during this stretch.

All the sudden I go to all-star level and I am a much more patient hitter than I have ever been in my entire life. I do know however that my five-game win streak is due to playing some sub-par teams that are slumping.

I am also having to mentally check myself to make sure that I am indeed playing on all-star lever about at least once a game or so lol.

    my question is this...

When should I consider putting in a slider set to offset my success?

Should I wait until I play some more upper-level teams? I have the Angels coming up and Boston so I might wait to see how I do against them... I feel that I am at a crossroads right now.

I know that I have slideritis like an SOB but if I need them I need them... my one fear is knowing that I am playing with a set and not being happy with the results and starting to swap out slider sets like candy...

      *BASEBALL HEAVEN*
      “2020”

      MOST NOTEWORTHY
      OFFSEASON MOVES

      RANGERS

      IMG_1310.jpg

      IMG_1311.jpg

Texas was another team that didn’t go crazy making moves, but did make some headlines with the couple they did make, Signing the man himself, Babe Ruth to a 9 year deal meaning he will remain a Ranger most likely till he retires. Unless the Rangers decide otherwise. They also landed one of the premier young legends in the league, signing 22 year old Miguel Cabrera to a 7 year deal. Also getting lost in the headlines because of all the attention to those moves was the acquisition of Carlos Santana from Cleveland sending Lance Lynn and young prospect OF Miguel Aparicio in return.

      ATHLETICS

      IMG_1218.jpg

      IMG_1219.jpg

Oakland improved it’s already formidable bullpen signing Rich Gossage to a 9 year deal. They also upgraded significantly at shortstop signing Pee Wee Reese to a 7 year deal. But the biggest and certainly most intriguing deal they made was the acquisition of the “big hurt” Frank Thomas. This was definitely a surprise since they already have Giambi at 1st coming off a monster year hitting over 50 HR! Should be interesting to see how this plays out. Less noteworthy but still significant, Oakland also grabbed a new backstop in Wellington Castillo, and when Avisail Garcia was still hanging around very late in the offseason they snatched him as well. Last but not least they grabbed possibly one of the best Rule 5 picks taking highly regarded, big league ready Hunter Dozier who was left unprotected by KC.

      ANGELS

      IMG_1296.jpg

The Angels worked out a blockbuster trade with St Louis sending Jim Edmonds in return for Goldshmidt, Ozuna and Wong. The Angels however would turn right around and deal Goldshmidt to the Mets for Yoenis Cespedes and top pitching prospect Espinosa. So essentially they traded Edmonds for 4 players, 3 ready to star now and one coming real soon prospect.

They also signed speedy OF Billy Hamilton to a 4 year deal and picked up Castellanos as well further stocking the outfield with talent.

But the biggest move by far that nobody saw coming was Trout to Atlanta for Soroka, Contreras and Koogler stocking the farm some.

Other than that they picked up Aguilar to compete with Boar at 1st, and signed Jose Urena adding another potential starter to the rotation.

Finally! There’s most of the major moves made. The teams that aren’t reviewed either did little to nothing at all or they just didn’t seam big enough to make this list. This is one insane universe I’m playing in lol. As I found myself analyzing moves and overall rosters, some almost top to bottom HOF players, I must say I’m still absolutely amazed the Astros won it all with a mostly modern day roster. Pitching really did seam to make all the difference in the playoffs.

I would recommend to keep playing at this level for several more games. Baseball as you know is a game of streaks, so just because you've gone 5-1 against poor teams doesn't mean this level isn't right for you.

Cardinals split 2 game series with Rangers

The Cardinals and Rangers split a quick two game series in Texas. The Cardinals are now 43-36 on the year and sit 6 1/2 games behind the Cubs.

Game 1 saw the Cardinals jump out to an early 3-0 lead but that was quickly erased in the bottom of the 3rd when the Rangers Joey Gallo struck for a 2 run homerun. Joe McCarthy would follow that up one batter later with a solo homerun to tie the game. The Cardinals would go up 4-3 in the 5th thanks to a Kike Hernandez RBI double, the Cardinals bullpen couldn't hold the lead as Jordan Hicks and Dean Kiekhefer each allowed 2 runs as the Cardinals fell 7-4.

Game 2 again saw the Cardinals jump out early with a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st thanks to a Brendan McKay 2 run bomb. But the Rangers scored 3 in the bottom half when Dominic Smith blasted a 3 run homerun off of Drew Harrington. The Cardinals would get 2 more in the 3rd when McKay hit his 2nd 2 run homerun off of Strasburg, but again Drew Harrington couldn't do anything and allowed the Rangers to tie the game in the 5th when Justin Upton hit a 445 ft bomb to dead center tying the game. There would be no more comebacks for the Rangers after that as the Cardinals put up 13 runs in the 6th to blow the game completely wide open going up 17-4. Brendan McKay would hit his 3rd 2 run homerun of the game to finish the day 3 for 4 with 3 homeruns and 6 RBI's. The bullpen would allow 2 runs in the 9th, but would easily preserve the victory as the Cardinals won 17-6.

The Cardinals are off tomorrow, but will head home to start a 3 game series with the wildcard leading Pirates in Busch.

            Remaining June schedule:

            3 vs PIT
1 vs CHC (finishes in July)

Hey guys...hoping someone may be able to shed some light. 2 months into my franchise and I have ZERO cpu injuries(meanwhile I'm looking like the real life Yankees). I don't have CPU roster control on and I'm not playing at beginner level(both if which turn injuries off). Innury slider set to 8. I am using a 2nd profile for 30 team control however that profile is all set to Auto. I know there are a couple threads on here but no one seems to have any suggestions. Was hoping someone in here may before I restart and lose my progress(hard to keep going with it being so unrealistic)

In my experience in this game if your team is an unstoppable force and just killing it and running away with the division. the only way the CPU has to level the playing field is to try to bring hour team back to earth.

as for the CPU injuries.. they will happen... because those are the ones that they have to do to make room for more generated players to be put into the mix for the next yaars first-year player draft.

Thinking in it this morning...I'm almost 100% certain that the CPU profile is set to beginner as i most likely never changed it. I'll have to check when i get home later but I'm pretty sure that may be what it is

I haven't seen a franchise injury on my team (other than the minor league of course) in years... this year is the first one I saw. While simulating spring training Khris Davis got injured and is out a while.. (should be returning in a few days to a week I think as of now).

I have never changed the injury slider. I do think injuries are something that has to be addressed in this game. if you want realism... they have to start to take a look at certain player durability and seriously make injuries more prevalent

you don't ever see players pulling up lame going down first. fowling balls off their legs in the box, or being hit in the wrist or whatever. These are cut scenes that would add more depth to the game.

Now I understand that this may be an impossible task to do in this game. however, I believe in this dev team to do it and make it work.

I have my injury slider set at 8 and see a fair amount of injuries that range in severity.

I would recommend giving it a try if you're wanting more injuries in your franchise.

Stabilizing The Ship - A Pittsburgh Pirates Franchise
                        2019 Season Preview

                        2018 Record: 82-79
                        2018 Division Standing: 4th
New(or Returning) Faces:: LHP Francisco Liriano, OF Melky Cabrera, INF Erik Gonzalez, OF Bryan Reynolds
Key Departures: OF Jordan Luplow, SS Jordy Mercer, INF Josh Harrison

                        The Good

The Pirates enter the 2019 Season with a brand-new mindset. They head into the season under the guidance of entirely new management. Gone is Clint Hurdle and Neal Huntington, In step Joey Cora and Brett Gray. The Pirates finally ripped off the bandages in Jordy Mercer and Josh Harrison from the 2018 team, whom analytically, had played their way out of Pittsburgh. The Pirates have internal patches that both could do roughly the same amount of work for less of a cost, which is important to the ownership. Stepping into their roles will be a mix-match of Adam Frazier, Erik Gonzalez, and Kevin Newman. Newman and Gonzalez both showed great hitting in Bradenton this spring, so the hope is that the bats make the trip North. Although the team will be without RF Gregory Polanco for the season due to shoulder surgery, they added veteran leadership in Melky Cabrera, and the exciting spring from OF Bryan Reynolds gives the Pirates a 4-man OF rotation that they can work with. Additionally, impressive springs for Colin Moran and Jose Osuna may force the Pirates hand in plugging them into the corner outfield. Pitching wise, Trevor Williams and Joe Musgrove both proved themselves nearly unhittable this spring, giving up a combined 4 earned runs over the course of nearly 50 innings combined. This, combined with the heightened K numbers from Jameson Taillon and Chris Archer show that Kimera Bartee's coaching is showing early signs of improvement over his predecessor, Ray Searage. The Pirates back end also looks like it can hold it's own, as the Crick-Kela-Vasquez 7-8-9 combination worked flawlessly in the spring, nothcing 0 blown saves across the three. They had a key in leading the Pirates to their 15-12 Grapefruit League record.

                        The Bad

The Pirates have some serious questions behind the plate. Fan-favorite Fransicso Cervelli didn't even come close to hitting his weight in the spring, and very clearly has lost his starting job to Elias Diaz heading into Opening Day. Diaz hit very well, but it was in combination with splitting duties with Jacob Stallings. If Diaz goes down, serious questions will surround the Pirates backstops. Adam Frazier also struggled this spring, and if he wants to be an everyday player for the Pirates, his average will have to far surpass toeing the Mendoza Line as he did. If the Pirates are looking to be a winning ballclub as they were a year ago, it's going to take a big season from both Starling Marte and Josh Bell, both whom looked less than impressive this spring. While Bell and Marte both showcased some solid power numbers, they'll need to put it together over a full-season of work, which neither have been able to do yet in their careers. Why change now? Pitching wise, while the top end of the rotation looks great, Jordan Lyles was far from perfect this spring, and had two terrible outings that resulting in a ballooning ERA. While he did win out the 5th slot, the slot is far from won for the season. The front-end of the bullpen, as well as the variety of the bullpen is also scary for the Bucs. The Pirates feature just one lefty in the pen outside of closer Felipe Vasquez, aging vet, Francisco Liriano. The Pirates lack a LOOGY, which is something they should really be targeting on the waiver wire, or finding a way to bring Tyler Lyons up.

                        The Ugly:

Bryan Reynolds, Mitch Keller, Cole Tucker.

Those are the Pirates Top 3 Prospects right now. One is in the MLB, the other two are on the cusp of graduating.

                        After than? Lottery Tickets.

Don't get me wrong, Travis Swaggerty and Ke'Bryan Hayes both represent key prospects as well, but the Pirates are facing a serious shortfall following the graduation of some of their top prospects to the bigs. This is a team that is looking to rebuild, and without prospects, you're in for a long rebuild. The Pirates, if they end up where we project they'll end up, might want to consider full Astros blow-up, and have everyone but their prospects on the block. They should be doing whatever they can to replenish their pool. The Pirates have a low risk, high reward ceiling for the season. That high reward is very unlikely however, and they must look at things realistically come July. If they aren't in it, go into full fire-sale, and hope your returns pan out.

Oh, and by the way, the guys they dealt for Chris Archer last July? Ausitn Meadows is/will be an everyday OF'er for the Rays, Tyler Glasnow was unhittable this spring, and Shane Baz looks like he has Top 100 prospect written all over him. Brett Gray was left with a cesspool of a system (no offense to the guys we just lauded).

                        Best Case Scenario: NLWC Participant
Worst Case Scenario: Top 5 Pick in the 2020 Draft

Our Prediction: 77-85, 4th in the NL Central

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I’ve been out of the loop for awhile traveling for work so just decided to do an overall recap of my season at this point:

The 2020 Dodgers (24-9) start May off with a bang taking the first 2 games of a 4 game series against the Cardinals (19-15) in St. Louis by scores of 14-2 and 3-1. The Dodgers are on the road for a total of 7 games and will travel to San Fransisco for a 3 game series after St. Louis. The pitching staff for the Dodgers have been lights out so far this year giving up very few runs, with 4 being the high for a single game. Dodgers are currently looking for help at catcher even with a deep minor league system, highlighted by 25 year old Will Smith who is destroying the competition in AAA. Front office is hoping to make him the everyday catcher come opening day 2021. 2018 draft pick and first year big leaguer J.P. Fullerton is an outstanding defensive catcher but struggles mightily at the plate. Management is willing to trade away Puig to make room to call up Alex Verdugo but not many options are out there.

                          Rotation:
                          Colton Stern- 4-1, 1.33 ERA
                          Clayton Kershaw- 2-1, 2.09 ERA
                          Walker Buehler- 1-2, 3.00 ERA
                          Julio Urias- 4-0, 2.19
                          Ross Stripling- 4-1, 0.89 ERA

                          Bullpen
                          Yasiel Sierra- 4-1, 2.11 ERA
                          Kenta Maeda- 1-0, 0.00 ERA
                          Dylan Floro- 1-0, 1.74 ERA
                          Pedro Baez- 1-1, 1.04 ERA
                          Scott Alexander- 0-1, 0.66 ERA
                          Jose Alavardo- 1-0, 0.73 ERA
                          Josh Fields- 1-0, 0.79 ERA
                          Kenley Jansen- 0-1, 2.13 ERA 10 Saves

                          Lineup:
                          2B Chris Taylor- .324, 6 HR, 14 RBI

2024 White Sox Franchise - End of Spring Training

The 2 time defending Champion White Sox have come to the end of Spring with a few changes to their 25 man roster from last season.

With Top Prospect SP Andre Simons joining the rotation the Sox traded SP Carlos Rodon to the Nationals for CF Rafael Bautista and RP prospect Freddie Whitt. Bautista will give the Sox more OF depth.

C Seby Zavala had a good spring and will take over the back up catcher role over Omar Navraez for the time being.

2B Hayden McClendon made the team out of Spring as well and will platoon at 2B with Elvis Andrus to start the season.

Ryan Cordell made the Sox make a tough decision for the last OF bench spot and made the team over Adam Engel and Rafael Bautista.

So our team will look like this heading into the 2024 season

I’ve also noticed cpu players will NEVER get hurt in a game you are actively playing. At least I have never seen it

                                They do.

I had Almora get hurt for the Cubs in a game I played the other day. The game I just played against the Rangers, Joey Gallo left the game due to injury.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
