Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Breaking News: Yankees Advance To ALCS

After a hard fought 5 game series, we have officially advanced to the ALCS.

    Game 1: Bumgarner Vs Price
G1 was complete domination from us. Torched Price for 6 runs. MadBum dominated with a 1 run 6.2 IP performance. A 3 run HR from Urshela. Solo shot from EE. Solo HR for Frazier. 2 run HR from Judge.
    Yankees win 8-1.

    Game 2: Severino Vs E-Rod
G2 saw a bit more of the same. 4 runs off E-Rod, 2 off Porcello out of the bullpen. Sevy pitched well only allowing 1 run but only lasted 4.2 innings. Other then a Solo HR from Devers off Chapman, Miller, Green, and Britton combined to shut them out. 3 run HR from Stanton. Solo HR from EE. Solo HR from Frazier. 2 hits and an RBI from Judge. Yankees Win 6-2

    Game 3 Paxton Vs Sale
In G3 the series moved to Fenway. After going up 2-0 in the 1st, Paxton quickly gave it all back allowing 3 runs. That would be all for Paxton, as Boone immediately went to the bullpen looking to end the series there. It worked until the 7th. Leading 5-4, Devers would blast an up and away fastball from Ottavino over the Monster for a 3 run HR giving them a 7-5 lead. They’d tack on 2 more going on to win 9-5 to force a game 5.
Solo HR from Stanton. 2 doubles 2 RBI’s from Urshela. 2 run HR from Sanchez.
    Red Sox win 9-5.

Game 4 German Vs Erasmo Ramirez
In a change of plans German got the start over Kuechel. It didn’t go very well. He allowed 4 runs over 4 innings. Fast forward to the 8th. After Ottavino, Betances, Kimbrel, and Miller, combined to hold them scoreless, Britton would be the one to blow it giving up 2 runs and walking 3 batters giving the Sox a 6-5 lead they would hold on to. Ramirez actually had a very good season for them in limited action, pitching to a 2.83 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP. Worth noting he only threw 63 innings. Red Sox Win 6-5.

    Game 5 Bumgarner Vs Price
This one became a slugfest quickly. Price was gone after only 3.2 innings giving up 9 runs. MadBum was gone after only 2 giving up 5 runs, including a JDM grand slam. We’d score another 3 runs off Porcello while they scored 3 off Sevy. Everyone else was lights out though with Green, Britton, Miller, Kimbrel, and Chapman combining to hold them scoreless.
4 hits 4 RBI’s 2 HR’s from Stanton. Solo HR from LeMahieu. Solo HR from Urshela. Triple from Judge.
    Yankees win 12-8!!!!

    News:
Nationals Win Series Vs Cubs 3-2, Advance to NLCS
Phillies Win Series Vs Rockies 3-2, Advance to NLCS.

Update on who we’ll be meeting in the ALCS later.....

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

If I had enough fingers and toes I could count just how many 3-, or two-strike counts I should have had a walk during this game. This game was a rainy mess, to begin with.

We had a lengthy rain delay roughly about halfway through this one. Not that Manaea was going to last more than six in this one. As the Angels hitters were successful in driving his pitch count up early in this one. Despite only getting one run off of him.

This was Khris Davis' first game of the season. Coming off the IL from a torn finger ligament he suffered back in spring training. He has some work to get back to form I thnk before we see him dominating as he has in the past.

        Seattle Mariners Franchise: 2020
Special Edition- No Hitter: A story of heartache in Detroit

It's been raining all game. Yusei Kukichu pitched a no hitter through 6 innings, Codey Gearrin handles business through 7 and 8...now it's in Arodys Vizcainos' capable hands. All I had to do was get the final out against Grayson Greiner batting .219! I got this... the first pitch... contact is made, it's got some air underneath it... there's still a chance Mallex Smith has wheels maybe he can get under in time...no it's moving a little to fast... come on...come on...NOOOOO! Two out double the combined no hitter is gone. Thanks Arodys Vizcaino. Now I'm wondering should I have just put in the rookie closer Felipe Armas, I didn't have confidence he could handle such a heavy burden.

I really don’t know where else to post this, and since I play franchise exclusively, I thought I post it here. August 3 in my franchise, night game at SunTrust Park between my Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, and temperature at first pitch is 68 degrees. 68 degrees? August 3rd in Atlanta? Have the developers ever been to the south in August? Come on!

Cardinals place Sandy Alcantara on optional waivers

After making one start for the Cardinals after being claimed off of optional waivers from the Blue Jays, the Cardinals have placed SP Sandy Alcantara on optional waivers.

Alcantara made a start against the Cubs but only lasted 3 innings giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, 3 homeruns, and 3 walks. Alcantara now owns an ERA of over 7 and a WHIP of a whopping 2.30.

Whether Alcantara clears waivers remains to be seen but if he does the Cardinals will give the young righty a chance to steady the ship in the minors probably until the September call ups.

The Cardinals have recalled RP Pedro Baez from Memphis to fulfill the vacated roster spot.

                  Jack Flaherty back to IL

Jack Flaherty left in the 3rd inning of his start last night against the Cubs with discomfort in his hamstring. The Cardinals are calling it a pulled hamstring and have placed Jack Flaherty on the 10 Day IL. He is expected to miss around 2 weeks.

Junior Fernandez was recalled from Memphis. He will start against the Twins on Saturday.

Orioles claim Sandy Alcantara off waivers from Cardinals

The Baltimore Orioles have claimed SP Sandy Alcantara off waivers from the Cardinals. The Cardinals placed Alcantara on optional assignment waivers after he was beaten up in his lone star against the Cubs. Alcantara has struggled in his time in the big leagues.

The Cardinals were hopeful those struggles would persuade teams to not claim him and get him to Memphis to see if he could work out his issues.

I was actually at this game and it was like 90 degrees. Sunday's day game the entire 3rd base side of the stadium was empty because of how damn hot it was sitting in the sun with absolutely zero shade. I lasted about 7 innings and had to watch the 8th inning on a concession stand tv to cool off lol.

Patrick Wisdom and Zack Burdi named to National League All-Star Roster

Patrick Wisdom and Zack Burdi will represent the Cardinals in the mid-summer classic in San Francisco. Both were named to the National League roster, with Patrick Wisdom being named the starting 3rd baseman. Wisdom will also compete in the Home Run Derby on Monday.

Patrick Wisdom entered with a .260 average, a major league leading 31 homeruns, and 67 RBI's.

Zack Burdi carries an ERA of 0.89 over 27 2/3 innings pitched with 2 saves and 8 holds.

                        Miami Marlins Franchise:

                        2020 Trade Deadline

We sat 41-69 at the trade deadline and we were looking to move some of our older and expiring pieces. The two main guys we were shopping were 2B Starlin Castro and SS Miguel Rojas. We made the following moves on July 31st.

Trade 1: 3 team trade between the Marlins, White Sox and Athletics.

White Sox receive 2B Starlin Castro (30) 82 OVR, RP Tyler Kinley (29) 67 OVR, B POT.

Athletics receive CF Magneuris Sierra (23) 66 OVR, B POT, RF Travis Snider (30) 69 OVR, RP Jose Quijada (24) 63 OVR, C POT.

Marlins receive 1B A.J. Reed (26) 76 OVR, C POT, CF Luis Alexander Basabe (23) 62 OVR, C POT, SS Jorge Mateo (24) 74 OVR, B POT and RP Ben Bracewell (29) 58 OVR, B POT.

                        2019 stats:
Castro (MLB)- .267 AVG, 13 HR 43 RBI
                        Kinley- N/A
                        Sierra- N/A
                        Snider- N/A
Quijada (AA)- 18.1 IP, 4.91 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
Reed (AAA)- .306 AVG, 18 HR, 56 RBI
Basabe (AA)- .264 AVG, 4 HR, 18 RBI
Mateo (AAA)- .264 AVG, 6 HR, 25 RBI, 16 SB
                        Bracewell- N/A

We get two MLB ready players out of this deal. Instead of getting prospects back for our most valuable trade piece (Castro) we get someone who can help us now in A.J. Reed. Basabe also comes over from Chicago in this trade as an interesting outfield prospect. Starlin Castro takes over the everyday second base spot for the central leading White Sox.
Jorge Mateo was someone we had our eyes on for a while. We like his potential and versatility he brings that he never would have had the chance to show in Oakland, being blocked by a ton of other infielders. We hope to give him an opportunity to shine in Miami. In exchange for Mateo, we send prospect Magneuris Sierra over to Oakland. Although we like Sierra, we felt like he was expendable due to our other outfielders and he fits nicely with the A’s lack of outfield depth and immediately becomes their best outfield prospect. A nice lefty bullpen arm also goes to Oakland from us in Jose Quijada.

Trade 2: Astros acquire SS Miguel Rojas (31) 74 OVR and RP Aaron Barrett (32) 65 OVR from the Marlins for RP Dean Deetz (26) 64 OVR, B POT, RP Riley Ferrell (26) 61 OVR, C POT, RP Peter Solomon (23) 61 OVR, C POT.

                        2019 stats:
Rojas (MLB)- .265 AVG, 6 HR, 32 RBI, .351 OBP
                        Barrett- N/A
Deetz (AAA)- 29 IP, 0.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
Ferrell (AA)- 65.2 IP, 5.21 ERA, 1.68 WHIP
Solomon (AA)- 23.1 IP, 8.10 ERA, 1.97 WHIP

We acquire 3 relievers in this trade with the Astros. Dean Deetz is the main piece coming back as he has been dominant in AAA. The other two have really struggled in AA but we are hopefully they can turn it around. Houston had multiple relievers they were willing to move as they have lots of depth in the minors. Rojas goes to Houston and becomes their backup infielder. He has 1 more year left on his deal so he is not a rental for them. Doesn’t have a lot of power but he has shown the ability to get on base throughout his career.

Trade 3: Dodgers acquire SP Cody Poteet (25) 65 OVR, B POT from the Marlins for C Patrick Mazeika (25) 63 OVR, B POT.

                        2019 stats:
Poteet (AA)- 128.0 IP, 4.15 ERA, 1.37 WHIP
                        Mazeika- N/A

Last minute trade before the deadline is between us and the defending champs. We swap positions of depth for positions of need. Dodgers needed some starter depth due to some injuries in their organization and we felt we were comfortable enough in our own starter depth, to move Poteet in exchange for a catcher who could potentially be a backup for us.

Moving Castro allows us to bring up top prospect Jazz Chisholm who will platoon with newly acquired Jorge Mateo at the shortstop position. A.J. Reed will also be added to our team as we hope he can continue what he was doing with the White Sox AAA team.

Forgot to make a draft post but I’ll give a quick rundown of our draft.
We drafted two B potential SP, a B potential SS and a C potential RP, 2B, C, CF. Nobody is close to being MLB ready so we will have to hope they all develop well.

                          2020 Houston Astros Draft Update

I finally made it to the draft. My Astros are 38-23, which puts us 1.5 games ahead of the Athletics (38-26) in the division.

                          Some key information:

Carlos Correa has been an absolute machine so far. He's batting .306 with 12 HRs and 45 RBIs. Altuve, Springer, and Bregman are all playing as well as you would expect them. Kyle Tucker is currently hitting .304 with 6 HRs and 28 RBIs. He is platooning DH with Yuli, but I think I will make him my full time left fielder and platoon Brantley and Yuli at DH.

The most surprising position player so far has been Max Stassi at catcher. He's batting .280 with 6 HRs and 25 RBIs. That was the position I was most worried about this season, but if he plays like that, I'll be completely fine there.

Pitching wise, Verlander has been an absolute disappointment, though I really shouldn't be surprise considering he is 37 years old. He has a 3-5 record with a 5.77 ERA. Greinke has been good with a 7-2 record and a 3.24 ERA. Brad Peacock has been solid, but Clay Buchholz has been excellent. He has a 2.90 ERA and a 6-3 record. Roberto Osuna has been nails so far this season in the closer role.

                          My draft went like this:

RF Delmon Shea - He is a fast RF with good power vs. lefties. He's currently a 63 overall but he has 93 potential. He's 20 years old so I love the potential star ability there.

SP William Neal - He is a strong starter with a 75 overall already. He only has 82 potential, though. While he does have a good overall now, his H/9 and BB/9 are in the 50s. Luckily he is only 19 years old. So there could be a lot of growth there.

3B Lorenzo Garcia - An 18 year old prospect from Cuba. I kept passing on him because I was worried about his vision and discipline. I was correct, too. His vision is 32 and discipline is 35. He has power in the 60s, though, and he is already close to elite on defense. He is a 69 overall with 79 potential. I see the possibility of a lot of growth there, though.

RF Julian Hernandez - At 22 years old and a 74 OVR, Julian could find himself in the big leagues already. His contact is in the 70s and his power is in the 60s. His defense leaves some to be desired, but it is serviceable. The problem is that his potential is only 69. So I don't know if I will get any growth out of him.

Those are the main picks. The rest of them aren't anything to write home about.

It's been a good season so far. Now it is time for the stretch to the trade deadline.

I kind of wish teams valued their freshly drafted prospects a little more. I was aiming to trade away some of my near ready prospects for the cream of the freshly drafted crop this off season, as my MLB team is pretty much a lock. I was uncomfortable with how easy it was too snap up most of the A potential new draftees.

Also I seem to have hit a bug where some ancient carry over contacts got renewed. So the rediculously team favored contract that Masahiro Tanaka had with me that was supposed to end got refreshed for another six years.

I decided to release him. Didn't think it was fair to keep him, and I had been planning for his eventual departure.

Not sure what to do about my closer though. He had one more year on his contract, and now he has seven, and pissed off about how little money he is making. Understandable. I was going to shop him this season, or possibly resign. Now I'm thinking I should keep him for another year and then release him just to try and bring some balance back to my universe.

one thing that really gets my blood boiling about living in the midwest... summer thunderstorms that knock out our power for a fraction of a second and turn everything you have off.

that is EXACTLY what happened yesterday as I was finishing up my game three box score for this game. Literally, it was one quick boom and the power went out.. it hadn't even started raining yet.

Anyway, I replayed the game, won it by the way... not as great of a game as the first time... bu won it none the less. Then as I am again putting together my box score for THAT game... I must have brushed whatever button on my laptop that shut down my internet and sent me back to my desktop.

At that point, I was done... if I would have tried to attempt to redo that box score and it would have happened again... I would have seriously broke something.

that first game three of this series was stressful but prideful as well. it was a back and forth battle. Angels took the lead... I tied it... they took the lead I tied it. then late in the game, my offense just found it and turned it on scoring three runs in the top of the ninth to secure the win.

I started to play the series finale but then forgot how difficult it is to hit in Angels Stadium in the day time. Plus it was soo late that I was getting tired and decided to just let it go for another day.

So hopefully tomorrow I can get that game in and maybe a couple more.

2024 White Sox Franchise - End of May

Sox continue the hot start finishing May 44-13.

Pitching is still dominating the league. Still leads baseball in ERA as a team with a 1.86 ERA. Also first in runs allowed (120) and HR's allowed (28). Up to a tie for 27th in strikeouts with 434.

Offense is starting to improve as we are up 19th in average at .254. We are tied for 19th in runs scored with 225 and 9th in homers with 67.

                                Team Leaders:

                                Avg.: Charlie Tilson .306
                                Hits: Charlie Tilson 64
                                HR: Yoenis Cespedes 15
                                RBI: Yoenis Cespedes 43
                                BB: Jeremy Ramirez 21

                                Wins: Andre Simons 9
                                ERA: Andre Simons 1.52
                                K's: Micheal Kopech 92
                                WHIP: Michael Kopech 0.87

Hard to believe Andre Simons is a 20 year old rookie with his numbers so far. Perfect 9-0 with that 1.52 ERA, 79 K's and a 1.05 WHIP in 82.2 IP.

Closer Patrick McKenzie is a perfect 25 for 25 in save opportunities to start the season and a perfect 31 for 31 in his career.

Maybe pitching on Hall of Fame is a bit too easy...But I do sim most games though.
