Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

So I pulled off a three-team deal that makes sense for all sides.

Giant's get: Max Kepler, "D" RHP Preston Guilmet and "D" OF Ramon Flores

Rays get: 3B Evan Longoria and "B" LHP Andrew Suarez

Twins get: RHP Charlie Morton, "A" OF Steven Duggar and "B" RHP Burch Smith.

The Rays had a hole at 3B after Yandy Diaz went down with an injury and get a promising young pitcher who will act as their swing man this year. Morton's departure opens an opportunity for top prospect Brendan McKay to impact the rotation. While Longo returns to his beloved Rays after 1 and a half tough years as a Giant.

The Twins get a bona fide starter to strengthen a top-heavy rotation, a capable outfield prospect who will fill in for an injured Byron Buxton and hopefully develop into a 5-tool player. Burch Smith gives the thin bullpen another option.

The Giant's get their cleanup hitter whose left-handed bat plays well at Oracle Park and should be a cornerstone for years to come. Both minor league players are basically throw-ins to make budgets work.

    Excitement abounds!

      Cardinals 2024 Season Outlook

Spring Training is upon us for the 2024 season and the Cardinals will start their journey to repeat as NL Central Division Champions and avenge their NLCS exit last year to the Braves. The off-season came and went without the Cardinals really doing all that much to their roster. They had a great core in 2023 and kept it in tact, for the most part, for the 2024 season.

      Key additions:

      LHP - Kevin Siegrist - 1 year $650K deal

      LHP - Andrew Miller - 1 year $1M deal

      OF - Tommy Pham - 1 year $3M deal

      SP - Miles Mikolas - 1 year $1.5M deal

      Positional Breakdown

      Starting Pitcher:

The rotation will look very familiar to Cards fans and all of baseball as the top 4 pitchers return. Kyle Funkhouser, Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, and Jack Flaherty all return to the rotation that was one of the best in baseball last year. The 5th spot will be battled out by lefty Drew Harrington, Junior Fernandez, Miles Mikolas, and Dakota Hudson. Those 5 will compete this Spring to earn the 5th spot, but the Cardinals are hopeful Harrington can nail it down being left handed.

      Bullpen:

The bullpen will be intact from last year, although there will be competition. Jordan Hicks, Mike Mayers, Zack Burdi, Roberto Osuna, lefty Corey Littrell, and closer Trevor Rosenthal all have secure spots, at least should. The only question will be the other left handed spot. Robby Scott took over last year after the Cardinals traded Dean Kikehefer. Scott will now contend with Andrew Miller and Kevin Siegrist as the 2nd lefty in the bullpen when camp breaks.

      Catcher:

Carson Kelly will be the everyday catcher heading into camp and likely out of camp. Andrew Knizner and Devon Snow will compete for the backup role. Knizner was the man last year and was productive in that role, but the Cardinals are high, very high, on Devon Snow. Snow was injured much of last year limiting his at-bats during September call-ups, but what he did in his limited time and in Spring last year really opened eyes. Expect Snow to get a lot of time behind the plate this Spring, as they hope his bat will continue to come along. He is easily the best defensive catcher in the organization.

      Infield:

The starting infield around the horn will not change from 2023. Brendan McKay at first, Kolten Wong at 2nd, Ozzie Albies at SS, and last year's NL MVP Patrick Wisdom at 3rd. Kike Hernandez will provide one bench spot while the other will be contended by Edmundo Sosa, Bryce Denton, and Evan Mendoza. Samuel Franco could get a look as well this spring.

      Outfield:

The starting outfield will not change either from 2023 going into camp. Juan Fabregas in left, Harrison Bader in Center, and Jo Adell in right. C.J. McElroy is expected to be one of the bench options along with recently signed Tommy Pham, who the Cardinals brought back after he spent the last two years in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. Jose Adolis Garcia will get a chance to contend, but its expected that McElroy and Pham have the spots locked down.

Not much to write about because not much changed, and why should it? The team was the best in the National League and tied for the best record in baseball. No reason to make changes just to make changes.

The Cardinals will open Spring Training on Tuesday against the new look Marlins.

The quest for 2024 October begins now.

Just picked up a cheap PS4 which is convenient because MLB 19 is free with PS Plus. I haven't played since 16 or 17, but am eager to start it up tonight.

That being said, what should i jump into first? I am a franchise guy on every sports game. I've been looking at teams today and debating between about 6 teams. Win now teams - rebuild. However, I would like to hear about some fun franchises that you guys have had with your teams.

I also heard moments is super cool! I stay away from Diamond Dynasty... too much like MUT for me.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Game of the Year so far for me......

amid a 19 game win streak and a 20-game run with no days off. I get to face the Minnesota Twins. Who are in the midst of a losing streak. However, thy are also in the hunt for the AL Central crown.

The Date is June 15th, 2020.

Daniel Mengden is the starting pitcher for the A's. He is going against the Twins Berrios of the twins.

The second inning was a nightmare for Mengden. As he gave up two runComing off a Sano two-run home run to left field. He allowed another run to score in the third inning.

He would settle down until his final inning in the sixth. where he would give up his final run of the game. The A's were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Things were looking bleak.

Berrios was proving to be a real pain for the A's hitters on this day. he had them completely off-balance all day. His pitch count was unearthly low going into the bottom of the sixth inning. it was looking as though he was going to easily go nine in this one today.

Then the animation came up of him stretching out his arm came up. I knew it was now or never. If he was going to start to come apart it was now or never for me to get it going.

With one out in the inning, Broton singled to left for a single. Hosmer doubled to right. Broxton scores. K. Davis homered to left. Hosmer scores. Making the score 4-3.

All I had to do is have my well-rested bullpen do its job and get two runs and the game could be mine.

I bring in Micheal bloom for the seventh inning. He throws a perfect inning of relief. The twins bring in Hunter Strickland for the bottom of the seventh inning. He also has a perfect 1,2,3 inning.

The score remains 4-3 in favor of the twins going into the eighth inning.

I bring in Pagan to pitch the eighth inning. Sano gets his fourth hit of the game. however pagan works out of that jam to keep the A's just one run down going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

With one out in the inning the A's look like they could once again come to life and give the 46,438 fans in attendance a reason to have hope that maybe they could come back and win this game.

With one out in the inning, Broxton grounded to left for a single. With Hosmer up the A's execute a perfect hit and run putting runners on the corners with one out.

The electricity in the stadium is rising. this is like a playoff atmosphere in the middle of June.

            K. Davis to left. Broxton scores tying the game at 4-4. Still only one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. The A's get up their closer Ryan Buchter in the bullpen.

Odor grounded to right for a single. Hosmer advances to third on the play. Davis advances to second base. Bases loaded with only one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

All we needed was a sacrifice fly or lucky seeing-eye single. ANYTHING but a double play.

Suarez comes to the plate. he promptly hits a ball to Kepler in rightfield. Scoring Hosmer from third and giving us a 5-4 lead going into the top of the ninth inning.

The A's fans are going crazy as the music starts to play as their closer comes trotting out of the bullpen for the ninth inning. the entire stadium is a mosh pit.

Once the game resumes the first batter Buchter has to face is Byron Buxton.
He quickly dispatches him by striking him out with a high fastball. Brad Miller was next up for the twins. The fans were growing louder with each pitch.

Buchter got Miller to line out to Piscotty in rightfield. Just one more out to get to finish off great come from behind win. With the fans on their feet and louder than hell Buchter gets Garver to hit a lazy fly ball to Adam Jones in center field to end it.

The A's win streak is now at 20 games. still three more games in this series with Minnesota. My newly repaired heart and newly inserted defibrillator won't take much more of this.

one of my greatest come from behind wins of my life I do believe... wow!!!!

I'm in mid June 2019 and Dansby Swanson fractured his hand. He's expected to be out 1-2 months. The good news is that Charlie Culberson and Mike Foltynewicz who have been injured basically since the season began should come off the DL in about a week.

Cardinals get first win of the Spring

The Cardinals picked up their first win of the Spring by defeating the Nationals 4-0 inside Statesman Park yesterday afternoon.

Michael Wacha took the mound for the Cardinals throwing 3 shutout innings giving up 3 hits a walk while recording a pair of strikeouts. RHP Junior Fernandez who is competing for the 5th spot in the rotation pitched 3 scoreless innings as well allowing 1 hit, 1 walk while striking out 3. Mike Mayers, Roberto Osuna, and Trevor Rosenthal each pitched one inning of scoreless and hitless baseball to close things out.

Offensively the Cardinals were led by Edmundo Sosa who was 2 for 3 with a walk, 2 homeruns and 3 RBI's. The Cardinals other run was driven in by catching prospect Devon Snow on a sac fly.

The Cardinals (1-1) will now host the Mets (2-0) at Statesman Park Wednesday afternoon. Carlos Martinez will start and pitch 3 innings or 40 pitches and will be relieved by Dakota Hudson who will have the same limitations. Expect Andrew Miller, Jordan Hicks and Zack Burdi to pitch out of the pen.

Cardinals place Braxton Garrett on outright waivers

The Cardinals have placed LHP Braxton Garrett on outright waivers yesterday. The 26 year old Garrett was removed from the 40 man roster and the Cards are hoping to outright him to Memphis, but he will have to clear waivers first.

The Cardinals added Garrett to the 40 man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but after his extremely rough outing in the Spring opener, the Cardinals have decided to outright him back to Memphis and add a more major league ready pitcher to the 40 man in his place.

Garrett pitched primarily at AA Springfield last season where he was 11-6 with a 3.89 ERA and he recorded 153 punchouts. He made 2 starts at Memphis where he was touched up badly giving up 5 homeruns over 7 innings of work and posted an ERA of over 9.

The Cardinals have not said who will replace Garrett but its likely to be RHP Ryan Helsley.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Now at the 21st of April in 2020 we find ourselves with a record of 16-7, which is only good for third place as we sit a game behind the 17-6 Rays and half a game behind Boston at 16-6. In our latest stretch of games we won 2 of 3 @ Twins, won 2 of 3 @ Rays, lost 2 of 3 Vs Toronto, and completed a 3 game sweep vs the Orioles.

James Paxton has by far been our best and most consistent starter to this point pitching to a 2.49 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 25.1 innings.

Andrew Miller and Sean Doolittle have possibly been the best RP duo in baseball so far. Miler has a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and has racked up 12 strikeouts through 14 innings. Doolittle has a 0.00 ERA through 9.1 innings. Chapman has worked his way into trouble in the 9th a few times before being bailed out by Miller, but his ERA reads 0.00 as well.

Gardner went down for 1-2 weeks with a strained pectoral on the 15th, and is now day to day.

1B Chad Baggett, picked in last year’s draft, has already had a brief 3 game stint with the Yankees despite only being 18. The Yankees FO liked what they saw, but elected to plug Edwin back in at 1B for now. He recorded his first MLB hit, 4 in total, including a double. Encarnacion quickly belted 7 HR’s in very early April, but has gone ice cold since.

Our top hitters have been Judge - 326 BA, 13 HR’s, 25 RBI’s. Gio Urshela - 362 BA, 2 HR’s, 11 RBI’s. And Miguel Andujar - 373 BA, 4 HR’s, 18 RBI’s. Andujar and Urshela have bumped LeMahieu out of the leadoff spot and to the bench.

Currently we are one game into a 3 game series vs Detroit. After that, a day off and then we hit the road...to play Baltimore and Detroit...again. 3 in Baltimore, 4 in Detroit. You can’t get a much easier stretch of games then the one we’re on now. Coming off 5 straight wins with 9 games vs the Orioles and Tigers left, expect this team to roll right into May easily.

It's only been three games, but top prospect Melvin Rodriguez is hitting .643 with 3 homers, 7 RBIs and 2 SBs at AAA.

I'm going to have to make a move sooner rather than later to get him in Atlanta.

Rodriguez set to make debut as Braves face Cubs
Chicago (AP) -- There was already plenty of intrigue as the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs prepared to face off for the first time since last year's shocking NLCS sweep by the Cubs. Now a little more juice has been added.

The Braves called up Melvin Rodriguez, the top-ranked prospect in all of baseball, as they prepared for a three-game series at Wrigley Field. Rodriguez, a natural center fielder, will start in right field Tuesday night, first-year Braves manager Kevin Wade said.

The Braves had planned to keep Rodriguez at Triple-A Gwinnett for the first month or so, but after hitting .462 with three homers and seven RBIs in his first three games at Gwinnett, the Braves had seen enough.

"He's ready," Wade said. "There's nothing more for him to do down there."

Rodriguez will share the field with Cubs rookie Mauricio Calderon. Though nowhere near as hyped as Rodriguez, Calderon is the early favorite for rookie of the year. Calderon won the right-field job after Jason Heyward was traded in the offseason. He's hitting .485 with four homers and seven RBIs for Chicago.

The Braves will send the prize of the offseason, ace Gerrit Cole, against Kyle Hendricks in game one of the series. The Braves, off to a torrid start at 9-1 this season, hope to send a message after last year's bitter ending.

NOTES: Jose Pirela was optioned to Gwinnett to make room for Rodriguez on the 25-man roster. Luke Jackson was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The Braves hope to trade Jackson.

Made my way into the Wild Card game in the second year of my Brewers franchise. I let Grandal and Shaw walk in free agency as well as traded a quickly declining Ryan Braun to get that contract off the books. With a glaring need in LF I signed Ozuna. I drafted a 20 year old gem at 3B but wanted to groom him a little so I resigned Moose on a two year deal. I also traded for Mike Minor in the off-season as he had one year left before free agency.

For a regular season recap the Moose signing was a great choice. He finished the year batting .230 but hit 43 bombs. Mike Minor helped push us into the playoffs as well with a ERA at 3.04 to finish the season. Hader did his usual thing with 50 saves and a 1.78 ERA. There were some other notables as well but I am at work at can't reference them. One thing I will need to figure out is what to do with Lo-Cain. He has a decent sized contract and I have a log jam in CF.

Anyways, I get done with work at 1 today to cut overtime and can not wait to play! We beat the Cubs in game 161 while the Padres lost to tie our records at 93 wins. Both of us lost in game 162 to stay tied and then we beat the Padres in game 163. It has been a wild ride to lead us to this point.

In my 2020 draft with the Royals, I used my first pick on Adam Paquette, a promising catcher prospect. Came in at 18 years old, 59 overall, and 92 potential.

                                I took a late-round flier on another 18-year-old catcher, Mark Valley. Also 18, but a 50 overall and a 90 potential.

Eight years later, Paquette's been an all-star, won the silver slugger, and earned World Series MVP in just two seasons of MLB play. Because he seemed like he'd be here a while, I traded Valley for a few spare parts (borderline starter/backup outfielder prospect plus a veteran catcher I flipped for a couple prospects five or so years away from being anything).

Then I forget about it for a year.

Valley gets called up. He starts 153 games for the Mets. And he hits .325 with 50 home runs as a rookie. His overall jumped from 81 to 90. His potential jumped from 90 to 97.

Can't say I regret trading him—the guy was doing me no good as a backup, and Paquette's still among the top catchers in the AL—but I kinda wish I had more to show for my trouble than a backup centerfielder and a couple 18-year-old pitching prospects.
