Any input you awesome franchise players have would be greatly appreciated.

Are you going to mix in some simming games or are you gonna play every game? You only have to deal with Hamels for year 1, so it’s not that bad. If you want to be realistic you’re probably stuck with Darvish. Have an idea though. In real life Darvish has an opt out after this season according to spotrac. He probably won’t use it in real life, but if you want you could edit his contract down to 1 year before you start the franchise and then at the end of the year pretend he used his opt out.

Depends on how badly you want him off the team and how much you want to be realistic. If you want to still be a little realistic but want him gone badly I think that’s a good option. I’d probably just keep him but everyone plays differently.

To each their own though, run your franchise however you like. That’s just how I do it.

I want it to be as realistic as possible too just not a big fan of either one and wondering if maybe he does great for the first half of the season if I could package him with someone.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After watching my Yankees beat the pants off of the hapless O’s over the past few days I’ve decided I need to save this franchise from their current sad state. I’m going back to the Orioles for a franchise with Ridin’s rosters with the goal of bringing this team back from the brink. 30-team control to keep trades in check, and all preseason injuries set to mimic real life (to the best of my ability).

Anyone following baseball knows the state of the Orioles, and its quite terrible at the moment. The roster assembled at the start of Spring Training is barely qualified for AAA, let alone the majors. The team went from ~$150 M in payroll in 2018 down to ~$90M due to the massive sell-off. So despite the Chris Davis contract, I have some budget room to work with. This will still be a (long) rebuild, but I’m going to attempt to at least present a somewhat competent team in year 1. Which means I have some work to do before the first spring game.

I signed the following free agents:
          RHP Ryan Madson (1 yr / $3.5M)
          RHP Randall Delgado (1 yr / $3.2M)
          1B Logan Morrison (1 yr / $2.7M)
          IF Ramiro Pena (2 yr / $2.6M)

          I made the following trades:
Acquired RHP Noe Ramirez from LAA for minor league catcher Cael Brockmeyer

Acquired 2B/OF Tim Locastro from ARI for SS Jack Reinheimer

Acquired 3B/OF Brandon Drury from TOR for IF Stevie Wilkerson

The following players were DFA’ed and either released or placed on outright:
          RHP Pedro Araujo
          RHP Mike Wright
          RHP Cody Carroll
          IF Hanser Alberto

So I now have a roster of at least borderline major leaguers. Here’s the outlook at the start of spring training:

C Jesus Sucre (Pedro Severino backup)
          1B Logan Morrison
          2B Tim Locastro
          3B Brandon Drury
          SS Richie Martin
          LF Trey Mancini
          CF Jonathan Villar
RF DJ Stewart / Joey Rickard (platoon)
DH Chris Davis (will not hesitate to waive him if he doesn’t contribute)

          Spring Rotation:
          R Alex Cobb
          R Nate Karns
          R Jimmy Yacabonis
          R Dylan Bundy
          L John Means
          R Andrew Cashner
          R Dan Straily

          Bullpen Depth:
          R Mychal Givens (Closer)
          R Ryan Madson
          L Richard Bleier
          R Randall Delgado
          L Sean Gilmartin
          L Tanner Scott
          R Noe Ramirez
          L Paul Fry

The farm system is weak too unfortunately, but I do have some decent youngsters at the top of my list. Here’s my top 10 prospects to start the year:

          #1 OF Yusniel Diaz
          #2 LHP DL Hall
          #3 RHP Grayson Rodriguez
          #4 3B Ryan Mountcastle
          #5 SS Richie Martin
          #6 RHP Luis Ortiz
          #7 OF Austin Hays
          #8 OF DJ Stewart
          #9 RHP Hunter Harvey
          #10 LHP Josh Rogers

Going to quick manage spring training, then play a mix of quick manage and player lock during the season I think. Thatll keep things moving.

This is my 2nd attempt at the Orioles in 19. Lets do it.

3 Game away series in vs Dodgers
            Aug 5-7

Game 1: (at the Polo Grounds)
            Reyes vs Maeda

Reyes again couldn’t get out of the 5th inning as the Dodgers would take advantage of the short porches! Jackie and Pee Wee would not disappoint their Brooklyn fans, both depositing souvenir dingers! Biggest highlight for the Cardinals was Pujols driving a ball all the way to the Dodgers bullpen in the far right field corner for what turned out to be an inside the park HR. He would later do it again but only get a triple! Dodgers win by a final of 7-2! Their 25th win (correction from earlier post), meaning 1 more and they tie the record!

            IMG_0189.jpg

            Game 2:
            Gomber vs Hershiser

Wheels came off early in this one for St Louis! All around ugly game, full of errors, horrible pitching and next to no offense! The Cardinals would do enough late to spoil the shutout and complete game effort by Hershiser, but ultimately got beat up pretty good all the way around! The Dodgers tie the 1916 Giants win streak at 26!

            IMG_0195.jpg

            Game 3:
            Gibson vs Sutton

Game 3 was a much anticipated rematch from early in the season at Sportsman’s Park between Gibson and Sutton! That was an absolutely masterful pitchers duel that Sutton won by a hair when Gibson stayed in just a couple batters too long. This would be another very well pitched game that would go back and forth with the Dodgers up 3-2 heading to the seventh inning and into the bullpens. St Louis would tie it at 3 in the top of the 7th then the pens would keep it there till the 10th when St. Louis would finally get the late game offense they’ve been missing and put 3 runs up handing Miller a 6-3 lead in the bottom half. Way more than needed as he would slam the door for his 31 save of the season! Felt very much like the early season team that was so dominant for the Cards! And against the hottest team in the league stopping them 1 win short of own the record alone! Definitely a much needed shot of optimism!

In my opinion no team would even begin to touch Darvish because of his contract. Even if he was putting up crazy numbers. Cubs are pretty much stuck with him and Heyward.

Again, I try to keep it very real. And in reality, the Cubs are not going to try to move Darvish, at least not in the next couple years. If it’s the last year or two of his deal, then maybe.

It was rumored the Cubs were looking to move Zobrist before the season. They probably wouldn’t get a top closer for him due to his age and contract but he could probably bring back a reliable set up man. Elite closers come with a hefty price tag, usually prospects. Look what the Cubs gave up for Chapman. That happened to be a rare trade that worked well for both of our teams 👍

That's very true I might dangle Happ and Russell out on the trading block and see what I could get.......but more then likely gonna just have to see if I could get anything in the draft.

The draft is a good place to find a closer! More often than not I see at least one top ten closer per draft lol

I've been streaky all season but luckily this losing skid only reached three games. Still tied with the Cardinals for first and have a big three game series with them coming up at Wrigley. Is it strange that I'm nervous about these games? Haha.

First of all, why not Strop? I've been using him as my closer all year and he's done quite well for me. But if you're set on someone else, the Cubs just don't have much to work with in regards to prospects. I think they'd have to trade some Major League talent. I would say some kind of deal that involved Ian Happ or possibly even Kyle Schwarber to bring back a good closer.

I asked about Russell in the trade thread and I have to agree that in all reality he has little to no value with his domestic abuse background. However, that doesn't come into play on The Show but, like I've said, I consider it in my franchise. Ultimately you have to give up something to get something and in the game it's easy to take advantage of the CPU. Most teams will trade their top prospect(s) to you for Addison Russell simply because he's a mid-20's A rated shortstop. I was about to trade him for a team's top (A) prospect but thought to myself, no way this team would do this in real life, even though the game would have accepted it.

So it all kind of depends on which closer you're talking about I suppose but the Cubs top prospects are Miguel Amaya (one of the few A potential prospects the Cubs have, maybe the only one in the game) and Nico Hoerner. I'm not moving either of those guys as the Cubs farm is depleted as is.

Thinking I may either wait to see what I can find in the draft or sign Kimbrel, but if i want to sign Kimbrel i need to find a way to free up some money and that would mean moving someone. Just not sure what to do.

Trade Zobrist for a prospect, that frees up $14M - you’ll get Kimbrel for less
