Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

So I've decided I am going to restart my fantasy Franchise because just felt like I had cheated or something. So how I'm doing my 30 man fantasy draft this go around is that I put the best 30 RP as CP. For all the teams besides mine I'm using the recommended button and choosing the top player at that position. I'm going to balance out the CPU 90 man roster but making sure they have a good amount at each position and not just like 11 catcher's and 3 shortstops for example. As for how I will choose my team, I can pick from any position but I can only choose a player that has or is tied for the highest overall in that position. So for example if there is two 90 overall 2B I can choose either one. That way so I'm not just getting all the good players for my team and my team will be different than what I would do if I just choose my team without the restrictions. I feel like I'm going to get a very different team than how I'm envisioning but should be interesting.

Let me know how you guys decided to do your fantasy draft if you're using 30 team control and even if you're not.

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

So I've finally started the redraft of my 30 Team Control Fantasy Draft. I've done the first 30 rounds so far and will do some more later. But overall I'm really loving my team. I have the 11th overall pick which I'm really happy about i don't like being in the top 10 to much pressure lol

So just a reminder I'm using the recommended pick button for all the other 29 teams and choosing the top overall player at that position for them. As for my own team I can choose any position but it has to be a player that either has the top or is tied for the top overall for that position. So without further ado the first 10 overall picks of the 2019 draft are as follows in order.

        KC: MIKE TROUT 99 CF
        MIN: NOLAN ARENADO 98 3B
        NYY: GIANCARLO STANTON 93 LF
        CLE: MOOKIE BETTS 97 RF
        TOR: CHRIS SALE 98 SP
        CHW: AARON JUDGE 93 RF
        TB: FRANCISCO LINDOR 90 SS
        MIA: MANNY MACHADO 93 3B
        SD: MAX SCHERZER 97 SP
        LAA: JOSE RAMIREZ 93 3B

As for my first ten picks in order were:
        JOSE ALTUVE 95 2B
        PAUL GOLDSCHMIDT 91 1B
        LUIS SEVERINO 86 SP
        JOSH DONALDSON 87 3B
        GARY SANCHEZ 83 C
        CRAIG KIMBREL 85 CP
        YOENIS CESPEDES 82 RF
        JED LOWRIE 78 SS
        ZACK BRITTON 83 RP
        ADAM OTTAVINO 85 CP

I went hitter heavy in the first 10 rounds but mainly because of who was still left on the board, Like I felt like I had to take them(Plus they were players I really like). My starting pitching is going to be on the weaker side but I'll have a great bullpen a la Royals when they went to the World Series.

Well let me know what you guys think of my 10 picks and the top 10 picks overall in the first round. I will update again after I have finished drafting all 90 rounds (wish me luck, its taking forever lol)

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Anyone interested in working together on a 30-team control fantasy draft list? Like a ranking order for players taking everything into account like age, potential, contract, etc.

I find it necessary to do 30-team control and try to draft the best possible player at every pick for every team until I usually get every position, maybe 3 backups, 5 starters, a left handed reliever, and a half a bullpen done. I'll spend multiple hours doing this and either end up feeling like my team is too good or my team isn't good enough.

Would like to work with other people to do like a ranking for maybe the first 3 rounds then do best player available at each position or something.

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Finally going to get started with my FD Franchise this year.

Last year it was the Twins who got the treatment for the Fantasy Draft, this year, it will be the Royals. Usually I try to change up the divisions year over year, but I’m already doing a Rays March to October, and I don’t feel motivated to do one with a NL team this year.

I will post my results after I get the draft over with. I haven’t done one of these since the game began valuing prospects more highly, so I am curious to see how this plays out.

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

So I had to redraft because when I finished my draft my total budget was $196 Million and that is with unrealistic contracts lol all the other teams total budgets were $100 Million or less lol

              KC BETTS RF
              TB ARENADO 3B
              NYM SALE SP
              WAS ALTUVE 2B
              MIA STANTON LF
              TOR MARTINEZ LF
              ATL ACUNA LF
              COL JUDGE RF
              MIL SCHERZER SP

              My First 10 Picks Are:

                Seattle Mariners Update: March 20th

Spring Training has finally come to a close with the Mariners leaving with a record of 20-6. During Spring Training "Trader Jerry" had the wheels spinning with a couple of big name acquisitions. Jerry Dipoto traded for Madison "Mad Bum" Bumgarner from the Pirates who weren't expected to contend with the roster they drafted. A few days after that trade Dipoto was dealing again and acquired Aroldis Chapman from Red Sox who like the Pirates aren't expected to contend this season.

So in the Mariners fantasy draft they drafted more for offense and have traded for pitching to give them a "Super Pen" consisting of a 3 headed monster with Aroldis Chapman, Craig Kimbrel, and Zach Britton. Also with the acquisition of Madison Bumgarner the Mariners now have one of the best 1-2 SP in the league with Luis Severino the Ace and Bumgarner sitting in the 2 hole.

On the last day of Spring with excitement rising for the season to start, Jerry Dipoto extended Madison Bumgarner to a 4 year extension (15.1 Per Year) and also Craig Kimbrel to a 3 year extension (7.1 Per Year).

So what, about 3 weeks later, and still can't find something that I'm happy with draft wise. Much more difficult than it used to be. Plus to throw in the RP issues that plague the draft, I might start looking towards a 30-team option.

I think the toughest part (saw someone reference making a draft list) about making an FAQ or "short list" for possible draft picks is that budgets have to be taken into account. If I do end up doing a 30-team control draft, I might run 2-3 test runs on the first 25 rounds and create an "average draft position" formula. That seems really daunting though, and I'm not sure how my 6 mo. old puppy would feel about me taking my attention off him for that long

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

How's everybody doing on their Fantasy Drafted Chises? Thought I'd wake this beast back up because it's buried deep, and maybe some new posters never saw it/regulars forgot about it.

I'm still trying to put together the "perfect" drafting formula. I thought I had it pretty well down pat last night, but I realized I neglected my pitching, and have some noticable holes on the team.

This is how I was starting off:

                      14th-17th Pick
                      Round 1: Ronald Acuna Jr
                      Round 2: Wilson Contreras
                      Round 3: Austin Meadows
                      Round 4: Josh Bell

Round 5 is where the wheels began to fall off. I was counting on Stroman being there (had to settle for Jon Gray). Stroman gets a solid OVR bump because he love his contract, and the team I selected (the O's) are close enough to New York to not negatively effect that morale boost. I figure if I can nab Stroman, Jon Gray, and Lucas Giolito, I can have a solid 1-2-3.

Here's how my lineup looked after the draft, but again, I'm not overly excited about the roster I compiled. The one thing I do have going for me, is I have a bajillion Venezuelans on my team, so they all are getting serious attribute boosts (I think I have 10?). I like that the way the batting lineup is composed now, it's that facing a left, at the bare minimum, the roster alternates lefthanded and righthanded hitters, so if a reliever came in, they wouldn't have a handedness advantage for longer than one batter.

                      LF: Niko Goodrum
                      RF: Austin Meadows
                      CF: Ronald Acuna Jr
                      1B: Josh Bell
                      C: Wilson Contreras
                      DH: Dan Vogelbach
                      3B: Johan Camargo
                      2B: Derek Dietrich
                      SS: Orlando Arcia

                        Happy new year everybody !

I could use your input in my Fantasy Draft. I'm currently in the 16th round, looking to add either :

                        a) ...a starting pitcher to move Robert Stephenson to the bullpen for the first season. Gio Gonzalez would probably be the best option available right now. I could slate him at #3, behind Luis Castillo and Carlos Martinez, relegating Julio Urias at #4 and Reynaldo Lopez at #5.

                        b) ...a left-handed batter to platoon with Orlando Arcia at SS. J.P. Crawford would probably be the best fit there. My line-up is already right-handed heavy, with only Jorge Polanco (S) and Rafael Devers (L) batting from the other side of the plate.

                        c) ...a corner outfielder to complete the outfield with Ronald Acuna Jr and George Springer. The best player available right now, I think, would probably be Stephen Piscotty, with good ratings across the board, and an 89 clutch. He doesn't have the best arm though (51 arm strenght) so this would force me to use Acuna Jr at CF and Springer at RF, playing Piscotty at LF. He's also a right-handed batter, which I already have plenty of, and comes with a pretty hefty 5-years contract that slowly increases from $6.5m to $10.9m per.

                        d) ...a center fielder to complete the outfield with Ronald Acuna Jr and George Springer. I would then keep Acuna Jr at LF, move Springer to RF, and could fill the CF position with one of Adam Eaton, Jackie Bradley Jr or Billy Hamilton. Here are their ratings in the roster I'm using:

                        ADAM EATON (L)
                        83 CTvR | 73 CTvL | 47 PWvR | 36 PWvL | 73 VIS | 73 DIS | 82 CLT | 96 DUR | 70 FLD | 67 ASTR | 74 AACC | 70 REA | 56 SPD

                        JACKIE BRADLEY JR (L)
                        58 CTvR | 48 CTvL | 60 PWvR | 43 PWvL | 49 VIS | 69 DIS | 66 CLT | 88 DUR | 75 FLD | 95 ASTR | 81 AACC | 76 REA | 61 SPD

                        BILLY HAMILTON (S)
                        43 CTvR | 38 CTvL | 30 PWvR | 36 PWvL | 38 VIS | 48 DIS | 41 CLT | 94 DUR | 79 FLD | 87 ASTR | 87 AACC | 98 REA | 97 SPD

Eaton is by far the best offensively...but his 56 SPD at CF kinda worries me. Bradley Jr. is far better defensively, but I would have to platoon him unlike Eaton, who could play every day. He's also only 61 SPD. Hamilton sucks offensively...but you can't ask for much better defensively. In a line-up that already features Acuna Jr, Alonso, Devers, Springer, Abreu, Polanco and Arcia...maybe getting a CF like Hamilton wouldn't hurt that bad though.

So what do you guys think ? Who would you go for ?
I'll sleep on it for tonight, and see if any inputs have been shared in the morning.

                        Thanks !

Re: Official MLB The Show 19 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

I ended up picking Gio Gonzalez in the 16th round (24th pick), to solidify a somewhat young rotation after taking a look at the CPU previous picks...seems they were targeting pitchers or middle infielders. Plus, with the 7th pick in the 17th round, I thought my chances were good to get one of the outfielders with the next pick.

Turns out none of my previous mentioned target were taken before my 17th pick, so I'm very glad I went with Gio. For the same reason, I was tempted to pick J.P. Crawford in the 17th round, but ultimately followed A&S's advice, and secured Adam Eaton as my every day starting CF.

I did miss out on J.P. Crawford, but to my surprise, Billy Hamilton was still available in the 18th round (was the best CF available overall-wise back in the 16th round). So I picked him up. He sucks offensively, but he's a switch hitter coming off the bench, a solid defender in the outfield, and I now have the best pinch runner in the game.

Plus, missing out on Crawford turned out to be a blessing, as I completly overlooked Eduardo Escobar, who was still available at the beginning of the 19th round. Not only a switch hitter, he can play all over the field, decent speed, durable and an 85 clutch to top it all. I'm SO excited about the team right now.

The Cleveland Indians are now up and running !

With the 7th pick coming into the draft, I've decided to build the team around Ronald Acuna Jr. Wanted a young, yet MLB-ready team, with a good balance of contact, power and speed. Here's the 25-man roster to start the season.

                              ROTATION
                              SP - RHP - Luis Castillo (86, A Potential)
                              SP - RHP - Carlos Martinez (89, B Potential)
                              SP - LHP - Gio Gonzalez (78, B Potential)
                              SP - LHP - Julio Urias (76, A Potential)
                              SP - RHP - Reynaldo Lopez (74, A Potential)

                              BULLPEN
                              LRP - RHP - Robert Stephenson (72, B Potential)
                              MRP - LHP - Jose Alvarez (79, C Potential)
                              MRP - RHP - Logan Verrett (72, C Potential)
                              MRP - RHP - Pedro Baez (79, C Potential)
                              SU - LHP - Jose Castillo (79, B Potential)
                              SU - RHP - Diego Castillo (84, B Potential)
                              CP - RHP - Jordan Hicks (83, A Potential)

                              STARTING LINE-UP
                              C - RH - Manny Pina (77, C Potential)
                              1B - RH - Pete Alonso (82, A Potential)
                              2B - SH - Jorge Polanco (85, B Potential)
                              3B - LH - Rafael Devers (79, A Potential)
                              SS - RH - Orlando Arcia (72, A Potential)
LF - RH - Ronald Acuna Jr. (95, A Potential)
                              CF - LH - Adam Eaton (81, C Potential)
                              RF - RH - George Springer (87, B Potential)
                              DH - RH - Jose Abreu (83, B Potential)

                              BENCH
                              C - RH - Elias Diaz (75, C Potential)
                              2B - SH - Danny Santana (74, C Potential)
                              3B - SH - Eduardo Escobar (81, B Potential)
                              CF - SH - Billy Hamilton (79, C Potential)

                              LINE-UP STRATEGY
Adam Eaton (vR) and Billy Hamilton (vL) are gonna platoon at CF. With Springer being a very disciplined hitter, with good contact against lefties and plenty of speed, I really want to use him at #2, which would relegate Eaton at the end of the line-up. Hamilton being a much better defender, I'm hoping taking Eaton out of the line-up won't hurt the offense that much.

Manny Pina (vR) and Elias Diaz (vL) are gonna platoon at C. I'm pretty comfortable with that tandem at least for year 1. Mina's ratings against righties are pretty solid, with 67 contact and 56 power, while Diaz can handle lefties with 72 contact and 49 power. Both have good arms behind the plate, so I'm hoping this will work.

Jorge Polanco will be in the line-up everyday, playing 2B against the RHP, and SS against the LHP. Orlando Arcia will get the start at SS against RHP, while Eduardo Escobar will play 2B against LHP. Being a switch hitter, I like the flexibility of having Escobar coming off the bench against righties, and I do want to give Arcia plenty of playing time to develop.

                              NOTABLE PROSPECTS IN THE MINORS
                              SP - LHP - Ranger Suarez (AAA, 67, B Potential, 23y)
Suarez will probably be the first in line to get called-up if I'm in need of starter or long relief pitcher.

                              SP - RHP - Triston McKenzie (AA, 64, A Potential, 21y)
                              SP - RHP - Adonis Medina (AA, 64, A Potential, 22y)
                              SP - LHP - Jay Groome (AA, 64, A Potential, 20y)
                              SP - RHP - Anderson Espinoza (AA, 62, B Potential, 21y)
I'm starting them in AA, as they are all still pretty young. Hopefully one of them will grow enough to replace Gio Gonzalez, long term.

Other B-Potential Pitchers include Matt Wisler, Yadier Alvarez, Jarlin Garcia, Juan Minaya, Jenrry Mejia and Miguel Castro.

                              1B - LH - Pavin Smith (AA, 61, B Potential, 23y)
                              1B - RH - Evan White (AA, 62, B Potential, 22y)
I'm hoping one of the two will be able to eventually replace Jose Abreu, who's 32. I'm starting them off in AA, platooning at 1B.

                              2B - SH - Kevin Maitan (AA, 66, B Potential, 19y)
I missed out of Jahmai Jones in the draft, so I picked up Maitan as my main prospect in the middle of the infield. Hopefully he can grow nicely, seems like his ratings are already fairly good for a 19-year old. Being a switch hitter is also a nice bonus.

                              LF - RH - Victor Victor Mesa (AA, 61, A Potential, 22y)
                              RF - RH - Kyle Lewis (AA, 66, B Potential, 23y)
I jumped the gun a bit of Mesa, but I really wanted to add an A-Potential outfielder to the team. Not sure if he'll grow up as nicely as I want, as he's only 61 at 22-years old. I originally wanted to start Lewis in AAA, but I've decided to add a few veterans in the outfield, case of injuries. So he'll join the other young prospects in Akron for now.

                              POSSIBLE VETERANS CALL-UPS
I picked-up Ervin Santana pretty late in the draft, so I wouldn't have to call-up one of McKenzie, Medina, Groome or Espinoza in year 1. I'm expcting him to decline rather fast though, so not sure if it'll be worth it.

Matt Bush and Hansel Robles are starting in AAA, but are on the 40-man roster if my bullpen arms can't do the job.

John Hicks is playing behind the plate in AAA, and will be the only extra catcher on the 40-man roster. So if anything happens to the Pina/Diaz tandem, he gets the call.

Garrett Cooper is a player I really wanted to add, as he can be a decent replacement at 1B or LF. Josh Fuentes could also get a look at some point during the season. Tim Beckham and Adeiny Hechavarria add depth in the middle of the infield.

In the outfield, Mark Canha, Rusney Castillo and Rajai Davis could all get a look should something happen to my starting outfielder. But one player I'm really curious about is Estevan Florial. He's only a C-Potential in the roster I use, but his ratings are pretty good for a 21-year old. Starting him in AA for now, but will keep an eye on his progression during the season.

                              ---

                              That's pretty much it !
...now, it's time to play ball !
