This was my experience with '16 as well. The framerate was so bad in some parks, especially in a few where teams that I liked to use played. It was decent enough in others that I still probably put a decent amount of hours into the game. But yea, the experience I'm having with '19 is mirroring mine with '16. Some really bad framerate dips in some parks. Just a big bummer

If so, that's probably an entirely different animal. I don't know what it is, but I'm really only referring to pitches and balls in play. Cut scenes may have so many other parameters involved that we don't know about, especially when it comes to higher rendered crowd models because of the lower FOV shots for said practice swings, even if it's also a lower DOF.
Good observation, though. I'm sure the crowd has to do with it there, even if it doesn't for, say, the batter cam (because the practice mode framerate is the same as in-game for that, even when there aren't any fans in the seats).
I'm just not sure what it's related to completely. I wanted to get an overall polygon count of what's on screen per stadium (not a literal one lol), because it definitely might have to do with each stadium's complexity. That would certainly explain why a park like Houston is an issue, that's for sure.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

It is not a cut scene. I use retro batting cam. Just something I noticed. That's why I thought it had to do with the crowd in the outfield. No crowd for practice, buttery smooth, crowd during a game, some slowdown.

Even still, if it's not actually during a pitch or ball in play, they probably don't allocate enough resources to it like they need to.
If video games are anything like video files, for frames to play out smoothly the system needs to use a buffer so they can load onto the stack and are ready to fire when needed (it's a bitrate thing, but this is important when resolution/fidelity remains constant but the framerate can vary meanwhile). They probably exhaust all resources for pitching/batting/fielding so that it can relax in between, because the GPU just can't handle that much for that long and would otherwise overflow.
Practice mode doesn't just not have crowds. It also doesn't have crowd audio or commentary, both which are situation-based and need to be calculated based on all of the parameters. These are included in a game's bitrate. Maybe it's all just a part of it.
I don't really know, though. Just speculating.Last edited by Blzer; 04-18-2019, 06:13 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I didn't think about those things, makes sense.

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
On the Pro, I firmly believe the attempted target values are:
Faster = 1080p/60 FPS
Balanced = 1440p
Sharper = 2160p/30 FPS
I won't guess the FPS for Balanced, but it is somewhere in between Faster's and Sharper's, likely closer to 60 FPS. It should probably run the way that the game does on a base PS4, only at a higher resolution.
This year, Faster is failing to hit 60 FPS in several stadiums (the majority, actually). Faster also feels like it has more aliasing in previous years; that, or Balanced and Sharper have better anti-aliasing than they used to. That's my own observation, at least.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I own a 1080p plasma screen. I also get to use my DarbeeVision Darblet when running in 1080p, so no complaints there!Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
Played the D backs at their place with clear skies and the game damn near ran at a locked 60fps most of the time, and I have no clue why or what's different about that stadium that doesn't cause the game to drop frames. Wrigley was the same way during a game that I again chose clear skies for. Seems like it's an issue with the lighting that causes the game to chug which is odd because I'm sure it's "baked" lighting and not real time.Comment

I thought baked shadows were static.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment

Yes absolutely. What's weird is that overcast games at Wrigley don't play nearly as smooth as clear sky games where there's lots of sunlight hitting everywhere.Comment

Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread
I'm torn between balanced and faster on my 4k TV. Sometimes balanced is ok for smoothness but when I go to faster the game just feels so "right". I just have a hard time with all the jagged edges on the foul lines and some of the stadium architecture. Generally 1080 seems smoother all of the time where balanced looks better but only smooth 70% of the time.
Wish this was on PC cause all my PC sports games can do 4k 60fps and it looks great and plays great. Even if I had to run this game on PC at 1080P I could surely increase some antialiasing in the control panel to combat the jaggies that haunt me! Overall love the game but feeling the lack of power in the PS4PRO for true 4k.Comment
