Re: MLB '19 Framerate drops/sutters help and discussion thread

With real baseball season starting tomorrow, and the tourney starting back up, I honestly probably won't get a deep dive into MLB '19 until next week. Today will be my last day this week heavily diving into this game.

I'm going to make a word doc, and note my experience at as many parks as I can try. I'll set up exhibition games, at both day and night, at whatever parks I'm able to try. I'll report my findings as far as the frame rate at each park I try, and the time of the day. Maybe this will end up being a huge waste of time, I guess we'll find out.

Count me as one that has been seeing intermittent frame rate issues. I say intermittent as it seems to vary depending on where one plays. Houston, as others have mentioned, is pretty bad. Now, it's not rendering the game unplayable for me, but it's noticeable compared to 18 (which I had zero issues with).

I initially downloaded the game on Sunday (I have the digital version) and have installed two of the patches separately (not including today's patch). I installed it initially on my PS4 Pro Hard Drive. I tried pretty much every graphical setting and it doesn't really seem to matter too much.

I did reinstall the game last night, but installed it on my external HD (just to see). It didn't really seem to impact the observations I had made with it installed on my PS4 Pro HD.

I'll see if any of the optimizations from today's patch help the matter.

Note: I did touch base with one of the Sony partners about this last night to get some eyes and communication about this out to SDS.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Just as a data point and because someone up topic asked. I have not noticed these issues on my base PS4. Based on the responses that I have seen so far it seems to be a PS Pro issue.

So after my previous post of how terrible the stutter and fps drops were this year with any resolution including faster on a 4k monitor and the PS4 PRO which was bought brand new with the game the patch today has helped about 10% and that I am happy about but for damm sure the graphics or lighting took a small hit.

The game still has way to much stutter in certain parts but is better for sure.

I cannot play on faster as the graphics are terrible there. There is jaggies all over the outline of player models and bats as well as the pitch meters

Not to mention the horrible eye soar you get on any resolution with the foul lines being jiggle cut up lines.

This game could use a form of TAA but it is just a raw file that exposes the jaggies all over the place.

I've noticed a few framerate drops during cutscenes when the grass is fully rendered and it shows the crowd, but that's understandable. I will admit though, I'm on a PS4 pro, and when I first started up the game it defaulted to balanced, and I noticed some framerate drops during the pitch. Switching to faster solved the issue for me though.

That sounds like what I'm experiencing at some parks, but using Fast mode. I'm in the batter's box, the pitcher starts his motion, and everything is fine. He delivers the pitch, and maybe halfway (?) to the plate, the ball skips/stutters. It throws your timing way off, making hitting feel un-natural and it just looks very weird. I haven't had this happen to me at every park, just the ones I noted with poor frame rate (Minute Maid, Yankee Stadium, Coors).

                  Food for thought...

Most 4K TVs perform better when you put it in 4K and not drop down to 1080p. On my Sony Xbr900f the refresh rate lags at 1080p and is much better at 4K. I’m trying to say balanced performs better than faster for me...

Duke32 you are right. The way the ball comes in from pitcher at times just looks so weird. Oh well. It is what it is I guess.

That has nothing to do with the stuttering. My QLED is 120hz at 1080p and 60hz at 4K for gaming. The issue is the game itself as the PS4 PRO is not strong enough to provide 60fps in any mode

I'll give Balanced a shot for a few innings later. I did try Balanced and Sharper for a few batters, and just quickly it seemed to me that the frame rate got even worse on those settings, for me at least. But I'll try it again later, as well as Fast mode with this new patch.

I have a 4k TV set up with HDR on and playing on Balanced - framerate issue was there specifically with the dynamic fielding camera and infielders throwing to first base.

I'll prob try out faster tonight to see if it solves it, prob going to move off dynamic view too

Another thing of note, I believe I use the Medium cameras for fielding, both when I'm batting and in the field. I'm going to do some more testing with all of this in a few hours. I'll report back.

Played at minute Maid Park for the first time last night just to see what the fuss was all about and I guess I can kinda see a very slight hitch on pitches being delivered when I’m hitting but it doesn’t affect my ability to hit what so ever, I don’t think I’d have noticed it if not from reading through this thread first, I use the show 15 camera while hitting and use the balanced picture quality on a Vizio P55-F1 TV
