Re: MLB The Show 19 Patch 1.05 Available Later This Morning, Patch Notes
Here is a video I took so you can see how ugly the foul/batter/coaching lines are in motion. Check the end especially when it shows the score at the end of the inning. It's worse when the dots along the line appear to be moving like that:
And here's another video showing how to easily reproduce this in replay:
edit: went back and tried the same thing in 18 and it happens there as well (tho perhaps not quite as badly) so it probabaly won’t be fixed. I guess the new pre-pitch cams make it stand out more, plus I only played a pitcher in 18’s RTTS, so I didn’t see how bad it was in the fielding and baserunning cams.
So, here's the problem. The only ways to fix that are to up the resolution and/or add anti-aliasing, and that comes with a performance cost. Without dragging the framerate issues thread over here, I will say that I feel like the game already suffers at times in this area as it is. So trying to make those thin lines smooth would likely make the game run worse.
The reason I mentioned turning supersampling on was because that's the only way I could be sure that the 3 in-game video options were activated - only TV's with a higher resolution than 1080p can take advantage of those options when SS is off. But when it's on, even I can see a difference in the three settings on my 1080p monitor. But as I mentioned, I did try this from the same views you showed and I could still see the jagged/dotted lines on Sharper, so I doubt that can really fix it.Last edited by bcruise; 04-02-2019, 12:39 AM.Comment

The stair case lines are an AA issue. Coming from a PC background, when I think of jaggies, I think of compression artifacts.Comment

Yeah, I think you figured out most of what I was going to say (that it's not just a problem with this game, and that it's unlikely to be "fixed"). This is definitely aliasing or what's more commonly known as "jaggies". I think what's going on is that when viewed at certain angles the chalk lines can get so narrow that when they have jagged edges, they lose their shape and become what you're seeing in the screenshots. It doesn't look like that all the time from all angles - in behind the plate camera views the chalk lines show up crisp and smooth for example. But I definitely see it in those screenshots, and in my own game as well.

Thanks for taking the time to write up such an in-depth answer. I do 90% of my gaming on PC, and as you know jaggies aren't an issue there with modern gfx cards and even low AA settings. I pretty much only play The Show on PS4, so when I see stuff like this, it really stands out compared to my PC (God, I wish Sony would just release a PC version, but I digress lol).
But yeah, even with AA completely off on PC, I don't think I've ever seen jaggies quite this bad , where the lines become so blatantly dashed or dotted looking (at least not recently, as nowadays you almost don't even need AA if you run at high res, and if you do have jaggies they just look a bit pixelated). I guess we just have to pray the PS5 comes along soon and can match even fairly modern PCs.
I almost wish the foul lines would disappear when they get to that point. I think I'd prefer that over the moving, dotted look.
But yeah, thank you again bcruise, I really appreciate your answer and always enjoy reading your posts.Last edited by jeffy777; 04-02-2019, 12:56 AM.Comment

Nothing about receiving arm strength attributes while playing in the field in RTTS? As of right now, the only way you can increase arm strength is by doing a training session.Last edited by nickfa83; 04-02-2019, 07:53 AM.PSN: buckeye02Comment

Anyone locate the 2018 NL East Champ Banner at STP yet?
Maybe Blooper is holding it during a cut scene?Comment

Well it makes sense that it would require training.Comment

Well first game post patch I experienced 4 routine plays that ended up being errors. I didn't see any of that stuff playing the first 20 games in exhibition, but once I fire up my first game in franchise what do you know.Comment

My RTTS character once dinged the other pitcher in the coconut, and the pitcher was taken out as a precaution. So there is at least that.Comment

After buying this Game since inception, Im offended at the fact that the non acknowledgement of Frame Rate Issues has not been addressed. At least admit it and have an explanation to the hundreds that have posted about it, We would rather be playing the game then on here complaining. But its years of money spent, and it's just not right. If something can be done, just let us know your working on something and You know of the issue. Frame Rate Issues are unacceptable these days in my opinion. They should make the games as well as they can with the hardware available. its a necessity for a video game retail... Sorry, just very disappointed after waiting so long, then stepping back a year..Comment

I know that. If it’s designed to not give you attribute points during the game then so be it. Just find it strange that literally every attribute as a position player can be earned while on the field, except arm strength.PSN: buckeye02Comment
