Is the Slider the most dominant pitch in the game?
Seems like it to me. What is everyone else's thoughts on it?Tags: None -

4SFB, more people throw that than anything. It's also mostly a persons main pitch in which logic dictates that it would be their best pitch. -

yeah, I'd lean 4seamer too with cutter right behind because of the break. I'd also say running fastball too but not many pitchers throw it.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Is the Slider the most dominant pitch in the game?
I'd argue that it's one of, if not the most dominating 2-strike pitches as long as it's located correctly (i.e low and away out of the strike zone, breaking away from the hitter's handedness). But I think the same is true in real life as well.
Depends who's throwing it too - the more it breaks, the more likely you''re going to see a swing and miss on it.
As with any pitch though, you can't just throw it over and over if your opponent has any sort of plate discipline - eventually they're going to learn to lay off it.Last edited by bcruise; 04-02-2019, 04:48 PM.Comment

Re: Is the Slider the most dominant pitch in the game?
Slider can be nasty in same-handedness matchups but not nearly as effective against opposite-handed hitter IMO. Also, they will get wrecked if left in the zone. I’m more partial to a good change-up, which I think is equally effective against left and right-handed batters (maybe not true in real life, but in the game it is). Changes can get wrecked in the zone too, but I feel like the risk of giving up a dinger with a slider is way higher.Comment

Based on what I've seen the slider is the best pitch, yes, followed closely by both the 2SFB and the 4SFB.
They are all good though. With a little slider adjustments, the pitch balance is near perfect this year.

Unless it hangs, I will chase a +90mph slider that falls off the table 100% of the time.
I’m also a huge fan of high heat that climbs the ladder.
