Re: The Invisible Bat
Dude don't try and change his mind, most likely no matter what evidence you provide he's gonna want to believe what he "thinks" is true in his mind....sorta like trying to convince a religious person that there is no God, it ain't gonna happen.

This used to be what OS was about, instead of just completely writing someone's opinion off (which I admit I'm guilty of at times), discussing the difference of opinions and trying to better understand someone's take on a subject. I don't believe the ball goes thru the bat in real time, he believes it does. Neither one of us can 100% prove our opinion is right or wrong, so either we leave it be or we discuss like mature adults for the sake of better understanding someone's reasoning for their opinion.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: The Invisible Bat
I claim to miss the old OS, which was when people could hold mature discussions of differences of opinion, but then I result to being the very reason I miss the old OS.
My apologies MLB14...
Now to the subject at hand.. (and please understand that despite our differing of opinions and spats prior, this is a sincere line of questioning/attempt to better understand your opinion)
In this scenario would the pitcher at least record a strikeout? Or is the equation/rating not that definitive?I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

First and foremost I want to apologize for my snarky comment earlier by referring to you as "some random dude on the internet".

If I developed the game, I would say it's a glitch too because I don't wanna have to explain everything in detail. It's like explaining a magic trick because technically there is no bat and there is no ball and if you explain the trick, it loses it's magic..
The situation I have in mind is what you said PLUS a human swinging with near perfect timing every swing, manually putting the PCI directly over the center of the ball. I just wanted to clarify that. It's not a realistic scenario, but I think it would support what I'm claiming.
I obviously don't know exactly how their pitcher / batter system works, but I do know that some things have to be factored in for the game to keep a realistic feel / outcome to it.
To answer your question, I think the pitcher would get a couple strikeouts no matter how well the human player swung and there's nothing wrong with that, but they could force the bat to miss the ball ( over / under the ball ).
It's not easy. I'm not saying it would be easy to change this. Currently, they must use a kinematic animation system for swings because the batter swings through the zone in different places dynamically according the human input. It's very technical. I actually wanna know how they manage the swing animations.
I think the K/9 rating may be weighted more heavily when the batter has two strikes on 'im. Other factors to weigh in on that exact situation would be pitch location, pitch type, pitch rating, batter contact, batter vision, batter hot/cold zones, swing timing, swing type ( contact, power, or normal ), game difficulty, slider settings.. You probably knew all that.
It may actually be a replay "compression" issue, but the ball position is the ball position. I would think the ball's X, Y, and Z position are recorded into an array of 3D positions while you're playing in real time ( not every frame, maybe every 4 frames or something ) and played back with some interpolation ( using splines maybe ) in the replay. The ball position wouldn't change from real time to replay. It would stay very close to what it actually was in real time. I could be completely wrong about how they store replay information, but what I described is one way it could be done.
Maybe it's the bat moving through the zone at a slightly different position in the replays. That would explain it and I could see that happening because remember what I said about their swing animations, it's gotta be technical.

Re: The Invisible Bat
For the OP, are you just trying to justify that maybe you're not very good at hitting so you'll sleep better at night?. I bat on Legend at pitch speeds at 10 and I don't notice balls going through bats....when i miss I know I miss and there are valid reasons why I missed.
Not at all. I’m not the best but I can hold my own. I’ve played enough real and video game baseball in my lifetime to know the difference between getting beat or getting a piece.
I trust the devs enough to agree that it may just be a replay issue; however, I find it odd that every time I have an inclination that I should have gotten a piece of the ball, I check the replay and there it is. The invisible bat.
Oh, and good for you hitting on legend with max pitch speeds. You should pat yourself on the back for that one, champ.PS4 | jamiedallaireComment

Re: The Invisible Bat
If your playing on a difficulty different what best suits your skill, you will not get realistic stats. Think of it like this: I hover between veteran and all-star but suppose I ramp it up to legend and say, 10 pitch speed. I can guarantee you when I face even someone like Mike Leake, who K's less than 6 batters a game, I'm going to strikeout a dozen or 15 times against him. The game isnt going to do the opposite of an ''invisible bat'' and let me put the ball in play when I'm a mile late with my swing. Especially when most of the time I'm going to be caught looking with no swing. If I want realistic stats I've got to be on a level facing Leake that is more akin to my skill. I cant even play him on beginner level because my bat isnt going to disappear 5,6,7 times for the sake of giving him his numbers. No, the invisible bat is a flaw and not a planned design.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: The Invisible Bat
This post is getting out of hand...okay OP, if I played on say All Star or Vet hitting at pitch speed on default I'd rake the ball...everyone on my team would have Ted William's average and Berry Bonds Homerun counts...calm down and realize this is a replay glitch. I remember getting this game back in 2014 and I played on All Star cause it seemed that was the consensus of the average player but 3 of my Jay's hitters had over 40 Homeruns over a season. Then played HOF the year after and 2016 and that resulted in sorta realistic numbers but I got use to it....so 2018 and this year I had to play at Legend with pitch speeds maxed out. And like you said, I've played real baseball since I knew what baseball was till to this day and I am 40.

The game is a series of intricately programmed systems that govern the outcome of your swings. User input is only one of the ingredients though.
There is no physical bat and ball. It's all math.
When playing on lower difficulty user input just carries more weight in the equation.Last edited by MLB14; 04-14-2019, 12:11 AM.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment

Re: The Invisible Bat
If what you say is absolutely true, then how do players end up with stats that are comparable to their real life counterparts?

Re: The Invisible Bat
Wow dude I'm gonna be confident in saying you're clueless with this game or just a sad troll. The nerd in you is super strong, if you read my above post you'll see if I play at a lower level from Legend the game will be super easy for me...why do you think that is? Is it based on the games rating stats or me playing it? I have so many questions for you but most would be too offensive for this forum.

Re: The Invisible Bat
By playing on the difficulty level that fits their skill level. And then, for those whose skill needs further fine-tuning, adjusting various sliders. Thats one part of why some users get frustrated with claims the game is broken. They never get things dialed in to where the CPU matches their skill level. For years I had a hard time too until Dynamic difficulty came along. It was a godsend to me.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment
