Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

I’m as sure that franchise mode isn’t going anywhere as those who believe it is leaving, that the devs only care about DD, that they are purposefully not improving franchise so that people will play DD, or any other theory that exists.

There are at least two big groups for The Show on Facebook. The bigger one has over 14,000 people in it. The posts and topics are completely dominated by DD players. Franchise players, if you are on Facebook, please join these groups and let’s talk about franchise on there also. People in these groups literally don’t think anyone plays franchise. It would be nice to be heard on there. MLB 19 the show PS4 community is the big one

I haven't purchased The Show in 4 years because franchise has been largely untouched in 4 years.

I may buy The Show 18 used to get a baseball fix, but until this team makes significant and meaningful contributions to the mode I will not be counted as their customer. We're still missing some basic features from the PS3 days for crying out loud.

there has been not one video game sports franchise that has a money making ultimate team mode and a franchise mode and then, subsequently, removed franchise mode.

you guys who believe franchise will possibly be removed are so mellow-dramatic.

          just stop.

That's a major concern that I have with this mode. Full disclosure, I haven't committed to '19 yet because I'm disappointed with the lack of franchise updates as discussed here (although I might eventually get it). I'm equally concerned about March to October not being a conduit to a better franchise mode but swiftly becoming the franchise mode that SDS commits to moving forward. Where every season of franchise is played out like March to October. They'll continue to keep franchise there in the background at a push, but the development would be to March to October going forward as a multiple season franchise mode. Not making a prediction that this will happen but it's a concern, I can see why they would be motivated to.

well during the stream that was talking about franchise, didnt they say initially that MTO was going to be implemented into Franchise, but then decided to make it, its own mode?. This makes me believe, that MTO will find its way into Franchise some way or another. Like For example. Not Everyone here that plays Franchise, Plays all the games, there are a lot of players who play every 4th or 5th game(so they play with each pitcher in the rotation). The Momentum aspect of MTO could be implemented in a way that the games that get simmed could be won/loss based on the momentum from the game the player actually played, and it could go on from there.

Yes, they stated that it was branched off because they couldn't find a way to integrate it into franchise mode. Which is precisely why I think they'll continue down the road of developing March to October rather than trying to integrate it back into franchise again.

Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

At this juncture I think franchise modes are a value/replayability add more so than the huge back of the box feature it was a decade ago. I'm a franchise guy. That single handedly is what earns my 60$ for a sports game.

2K sells 10 million copies now, and I'm not delusional enough to think it's because of MyLeague. The game sold a quarter of that last gen when franchise mode got a big push. MyCareer and that Park stuff is what has fueled the growth. I get that. I'm cool with that. As long as franchise mode gets some love, even if its slow as I understand how business works, I'm ok.

I'm at that place with the Show. Franchise mode is good already to me. It can be and should be improved upon, no doubt. The gameplay improvements make the mode all the more enjoyable. The presentation upgrades are really nice this year, too. The crowd sounds amazing during high leverage points, especially when I have my surround on. But, already want more.

So, for me, franchise is a big part of the pie. It's like the campaign mode in a shooter. SCEA should put an emphasis on it, even if it isn't the priority every year. Some years may be leaner than others. At the same rate, some years should see sizable additions.

I am in the same boat. I went from The Show 16 to 19, and have no intention to buy more frequently unless Franchise sees some meaningful revisions.

Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

I legitimately only get this game to play franchise mode. If they get the actual minor league roster which honestly can't be that expensive for the license given OOTP acquired it. I can see so many more people buying this game every year.

MVP baseball back in 2005 had the entire minor league roster, it's not like the minor league union is going to ask for much given most of the players are making less than $1000-2000 a month.

I'm sure most of them would just be happy making it into the game as they're the same age as most of us and would consider that an accomplishment.

there is no minor league union. 99% of the players being fine with being in the game w/o compensation isnt enough. 1 lawsuit from 1 or 2 players would be enough to bring down the house

I believe they may meld the current franchise together with MTO.

I don't really understand their motivation though. They steadily remove options and their patches are sloppy.

Their effort to fix the guess pitch sound affected the visual of it. For the last 10 years, the visuals for guess pitch have always come before the pitch was released.

I don't even use guess pitch, but it's a good example of their dev team not testing things thoroughly and it makes people question their testing.

I can confirmed franchise is not going anywhere.

                            How can you confirm?

Nobody knows what SCEA's plan is except them.
Over the past 3yrs they have updated everything but Franchise.
The even went as far as adding Retro Mode and March to October.
Again Im not on here to argue
The purpose of this thread is for us fans of Franchise Mode is to have our opinions heard to better it and or dont remove it.

To state that they haven't updated franchise mode over the last 3 years is completely false. They may not have made improvements or updates that you wanted, but they have updated the mode.

And I can confirm because I've asked the devs this very question when discussing the possibility of carryover saves being removed. Neither carryover saves nor franchise mode are going anywhere.

Re: Reasons SCEA needs to Keep/Improve Franchise Mode!

Franchise mode in my opinion is not going anywhere...

But the reason for that is not a great one. Why would they ever remove this mode...when all they have to do each year is update rosters, and throw in a couple of new (largly unimportant) bells or whistles - regardless if they really add anything or is even effective - and we, the Franchise niche, rush out to buy it each year? They would be insane to remove it, because the comparitively small Franchise niche, (count me in 100% that group) are suckers. So we still generate some revenue. SDS sells it like salesmen in their pre-launch campaign and we get high hopes for it, circle our calendars for launch, and can't wait to go out and grab it.

DD and Online modes are all they care about improving (outside of a bone or two thrown to us each year). This is just the truth. It is the direction the Show is going, like it or not. It affects Offline mode, offense and defense, mostly in the negative. Whatever they need to do to make Online play better, they will, even at the expense of Franchise.

But - do you think they will ever come out and say "look - Online Play is where the money is. Our focus is there. Sorry Franchise guys." Of course not. That would be insane. The sales team (and devs - whether they like it or not, and for obvious reasons) will spin it and tell us how much better offense or defense is for Franchise players. "Look - the PCI does 'x' now! Look the ball does 'y' now! Look at this; look at that" And we look and say "ok - yeah - i see it now! - it DOES do this or that now! Wow it IS better!" No... we WANT it to be better, and we see something that is different, - and coupled with what we heard - we conclude that it's better.

But - it wasn't meant to be better for you. It was meant to help Online players. The game is still fun, yes, (it could even be more fun) and we assume it's better baseball.

All of this was made very clear around patch 8 last year. This was the closest they ever came to being transparent about their direction. They made a big shift toward online play from that patch going forward. And they pretty much told us this "flat out" (copyright Heidi Watney). Then, they diverted our attention from it and said but hey look, the PCI does this now! Isnt that better!?.. no. (But regardless of an apologetic undertone toward Franchise players, and actually being told it was geared for online players.. , many people inexplicably still convince themselves it's better).

(I still have one offline PS4 with The Show patch 7 on it, and unfortunately it has become my go-to for franchise. It is just so much better in comparison. And it has the hit type variety and PCI response that the Show is still trying to get back to. I consider this the best version of the Show ever. And...'coincidentally', it was right before they told us they were shifting things to improve Online play. I have gone to lengths to make sure that particular PS4 never gets connected to the internet again. It's like a jewel to me lol. I'm very protective over it)

"Improvements" to offline mode are for the Online players, even at the expense of Franchise players. Now, I don't "want" to believe this. But I'm not going to kid myself. Kidding myself is what turns me into into a fanboy. Every gaming community has fanboys. Every one. Please, never let me be that person. There is a saying in poker that goes "If you look around the table, and can't find the sucker - you're the sucker." That applies here also. I will not be that person. I refuse to kid myself.

That being said, I still love the Show as a whole. My opinion is it is the Greatest baseball game series ever. I am just finally starting to get to the point after all these years of playing The Show, that i might rather stick with the product that was already great, than keep getting sold the "latest greatest" that is no longer even geared toward me.
