Played a game this morning before work, the Red Sox visiting Chicago in a rainy 7pm start time.
I could tell the slant of the game right off the bat, and it continued throughout the game, as SS Tim Anderson threw a ball wide of first on the first ground ball of the game. That was the first of four errors committed by the White Sox, and I am guessing some of that was due to the sloppy conditions on the field.
Seeing as though I only had an hour to play, I was not very good about working counts, and took some pretty meager hacks, but David Price pitched well for 7 innings, and I went into the top of the 9th down 2-1
Chavis hits a ball to Anderson, who boots it for his 2nd error of the game. I bunt him over to second on a sacrifice, tag up to third on a deep fly ball from JBJ, and then Vazquez singles him home on an 0-2 contact swing dunker over the shortstops head.
Because I was time-constrained, I did not have my closer up and warm, as I figured the game was over, and I shove Workman back out to the mound for his second inning of work. This was a bad idea.
Tim "Two-Error" Anderson deposits the first pitch from Workman in the bottom of the ninth over a leaping Benintendi, and walks off the Red Sox 3-2.
Great game, lots of fun, and honestly, I squandered a chance to win a game I feel the CPU was giving me every opportunity to make happen. But, without working counts, playing smart, and managing my bullpen, I deserved the loss.
At the end of the day, I have no issues with the game either having an agenda, or not. It makes no difference to me, as long as the games are realistic, fun, and addictive enough to keep me coming back.
So far, it checks all those boxes, and i never feel as though the game "steals" or unfairly manipulates itself to the point I felt Madden or NHL did for so long.
For a game to try and replicate the ebb and flow of baseball, while I try my best to stem the tide... How much more can we ask for?
