Re: And once again it rears its ugly head...

Played a game this morning before work, the Red Sox visiting Chicago in a rainy 7pm start time.

I could tell the slant of the game right off the bat, and it continued throughout the game, as SS Tim Anderson threw a ball wide of first on the first ground ball of the game. That was the first of four errors committed by the White Sox, and I am guessing some of that was due to the sloppy conditions on the field.

Seeing as though I only had an hour to play, I was not very good about working counts, and took some pretty meager hacks, but David Price pitched well for 7 innings, and I went into the top of the 9th down 2-1

Chavis hits a ball to Anderson, who boots it for his 2nd error of the game. I bunt him over to second on a sacrifice, tag up to third on a deep fly ball from JBJ, and then Vazquez singles him home on an 0-2 contact swing dunker over the shortstops head.

Because I was time-constrained, I did not have my closer up and warm, as I figured the game was over, and I shove Workman back out to the mound for his second inning of work. This was a bad idea.

Tim "Two-Error" Anderson deposits the first pitch from Workman in the bottom of the ninth over a leaping Benintendi, and walks off the Red Sox 3-2.

Great game, lots of fun, and honestly, I squandered a chance to win a game I feel the CPU was giving me every opportunity to make happen. But, without working counts, playing smart, and managing my bullpen, I deserved the loss.

At the end of the day, I have no issues with the game either having an agenda, or not. It makes no difference to me, as long as the games are realistic, fun, and addictive enough to keep me coming back.

So far, it checks all those boxes, and i never feel as though the game "steals" or unfairly manipulates itself to the point I felt Madden or NHL did for so long.

For a game to try and replicate the ebb and flow of baseball, while I try my best to stem the tide... How much more can we ask for?

The problem is that these types of games happen ALL THE TIME in this game. I literally had the EXACT same thing happen the other day. I tie it up in the bottom of the ninth on an error (just like you), get two hits and single him home. First batter next half inning, walk off. It's constant. This isn't an animation issue. This isn't a CPU roster management issue. This is a gameplay issue through and through and it's been evident in every iteration of the show since they had "keep scores close" as an option. It feels about as inorganic as anything could possibly feel to me.

It's a game of dice rolls, combine that with some shotty A.I at time and you'll get results that make you scratch your head.

Haha. Me either. Most I’ve ever had is three in a row to load the bases.

The OP complains more than I do about this game. Haha. Out of al the potential issues the game has, comeback AI is NOT one of them. Comebacks happen, it’s baseball.

I had a game a few nights ago where I was up three runs, opposing team put two runs on the board and had the bases loaded with just one out. Figured I was about to lose. Then... ground ball to third... 5-4-3, game over, I win. Fist-pump moment.

The AI comebacks can sometimes be unrealistic and inauthentic. Like OP, sometimes you can feel a comeback is coming. I know once I get a silly error, I know they are going to get a run or a HR. It's usually when I am up one or two runs and always in the middle of the game. Seems to happen with close games. If the score is 8 to 1 or something like that in my favor, this doesn't usually happen.

P.S. Another one I hate is when every batter gets a hit off of me. I've been pitching near perfect all game and then every batter hits deep in the outfield like I forgot how to pitch. That one pisses me off. They hit everything you throw at them like why are they swinging at this?

This was an issue for me the last two or three years and always happened in the 6th inning no matter if my pitch count were low and I was tossing a gem.

Thankfully I haven’t experienced any of that this year. My problem this year is getting the CPU to swing at pitches out of the zone with 2 strikes.

For example, throwing a 100+mph fast ball and the hitter will swing very early. That shows the game was programmed for the cpu to miss that pitch before it even left the pitchers hand. Then there are times where I'm throwing everything at a guy and he's fouling every thing off. Then I throw my first breaking pitch perfectly just off the plate, and he takes it no sweat. Literally anyone would swing at these pitches in 0-2 counts. But not the cpu when it's "meant" for them to get on base or whatever.
This has been common practice for me when pitching this year and it’s maddening.

Getting two strikes on a batter should give the pitcher a slight advantage, but in this year’s game it is a detriment and I know that when it happens 95% of the time I’ll walk them or they’ll get a hit.

I’m really happy I have zero of these issues and I’m enjoying the game 100%
