SDS really just needs to figure out what they want this game to be and stick with it. ... so either make this a game that allows DD to perform at optimal levels, or just make a baseball simulation and let the DD crowd either get on board or ship out (though this is not likely to happen).

Oh, they've decided all right. It's DD and the franchise guys get to be beta testers after paying $80 for the privilege of doing so. I haven't played it since the week after release since the DH bug ruins the game.

I played a few games yesterday, first since the new patch and I have to say I like this game. I've never had so much fun fielding almost linedrives off the wall in the outfield that I made a ridiculous catch on, twice to count in back to back games yesterday of which were drastically new and different animations that I've never seen before. They really brightened up my gaming experience.



I really wish they'd bring back some of the injury animations the old games had for example, in MLBTS11 A-Rod took a hack, missed and fell over on the swing through after of which I got cutscene which said he got injured on the play. On a similar play yesterday, Astrubal Cabrera took his hack and missed and the game brought up a menu and said he tweaked something in his back. The menu is fine but I'd rather see a small cutscene that shows me he got hurt instead. On the flip side, they put a really cool animation after a big strikeout of Yasiel Puig where he slammed his bat like an axe late in a close game. That was fun, never seen someone get angry like that. Gameplay is fun for the most part.


Wish they'd freshen up franchise mode a little more, they've 100% neglected it for the most part the last few years but them putting in rookies models this year like Guerrero Jr, Alonso, Tatis Jr have made it a little better than nothing. I'd be nice if we could import their models into our franchise/offline rosters so we don't have to remake the rosters from scratch, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to do a weird season experiment where a team of Adam Dunn's faces a team of Mike Trout's. I'm also a huge fan of them giving us more room on Free Agency by keeping all the guys who played last year on the default rosters, there was no reason the last few years that they'd be removing guys who played the previous year IE: Ben Revere, Pedro Alvarez, RA Dickey all had models in MLBTS18 but weren't featured on the default roster and were only accessible in carry over Franchise from MLBTS17.



I wish they'd set up the minor league rosters with actual rookies so like OOTP who actually have the right to put minor leaguers in the baseball game it would make the game more in depth. They can't be that expensive if a company like OOTP is putting their rights in a game. Most minor leaguers would probably be happy having their likeness in a game in the first place. Another thing they need to do with franchise is lower the threshold for which players are asking for big bucks in Free Agency. Unless a guy is a 90 in franchise, no team will offer anyone $15M+. Which is ridiculous because starting pitchers and relievers who aren't even good make a lot more than what's being offered. Matt Harvey is making $13M this year while Nathan Eovaldi who's had a productive 130 innings including playoffs over the last three years is making $17M a year. Both guys should be in the 70 overalls yet the market in real life isn't reflected in the game which dictates they should be 85-89 overalls to get to that.



Overall I'd give the game a 6/10 on launch, and a 8/10 since the patch.

That's another thing that irks me, the missing portraits on cards. And I'd give anything for a real Acuna scan!!!

I was thinking the other day what it would be like if you could go to Google images, copy the real-life photo of any player, save it onto a USB drive, plug it into the console, and edit the faces that way by pasting them onto the player's model which in turn would translate to the on the field model. I'm not sure if the PS4 could handle something like that but maybe the PS5 can.

I dunno. I think most of this game is “broken now”, this and that has really changed is mostly placebo based on a game, or two, post patch. Just my opinion.

Agreed. Since 1.10 the CPU and I are both hitting an unrealistic amount of pitches outside the zone.

One of the things I wished the game didn't kill in prior years was out of the zone contact. I always had a hard time (as a Directional hitter) to get the 60-ish percent out-of-zone contact rate from hitters that didn't make in-zone contact ridiculous.

Now, it seems like they've gone too far the other way with some of the contact stories I'm reading like in your post and others - the dirt sinker HR, etc.

Is it possible with sliders to lessen this to a more realistic level (keep being able to hit the ball in the vicinity of the zone - something the game overly "punished", imo) without allowing the crazy good contact on balls way out of the zone?

Agree 100%. It's just a super fun game to play, and even with how thin franchise mode continues to be, I find myself enjoying it more this year than ever.

There's still some laggy spots for me, but the defense and hitting are game changers this year IMO. I've been getting so much hit variety, and it's been no different post-patch.

I didn’t have the game prior to the previous patch so I have nothing to base it on. All I will say is the amount of opposite field hits in this game is beyond ridiculous. In the game I’m currently playing I have 8 hits, every single one of them opposite field. I’d like to see someone pull the ball just once. Have to say I’m not liking this game very much. Should have went with my original instinct and just stuck with 18.

I think that really depends on ones slider set. I think the changes are less noticeable for those win extremely customized slider sets.

My slider set personally is pretty close to everything on default with only pitch speeds and solid hits reduced. I also had to increase strike frequency from the CPU prior to 1.10 because the CPU was way to willing to issue walks when they shouldn't be I.e. With bases loaded or when the pitcher is up to bat, although this seems to be better after 1.10.

For me with my sliders being near default the change seems were supremely noticeable. Those with a deep customized slider set probably aren't seeing much of any change

I think part of the problems lies in the newer players a bit as well. I am not saying that there aren't issues with the game, because there definitely are problems. But I think the newer crowd to The Show don't put enough time into gameplay before some holler the game is broken. While most of the hardcore crowd here, like those I quoted and others, realize that any change you make to sliders needs a sample size of 10+ games to see if everthing levels out. Baseball is not a quick sport and most gamers today do not have or dont want to put in the time for a season of Baseball. Which is understandable and I get it. But it doesn't change the fact that changes and averages develop over time more in this game than any other. I mean the time it takes me to finish a week in baseball I could finish a season in Madden.

So when it comes to comparing problems, which I think is also a problem at times on OS. (Honestly I am as guilty of an offender as most lately and for that I apologize) But those that play every pitch of every game, including minor leagues are going to have a different idea of what to expect from the game, than say someone who is MOM or quick play, or Heaven forbid a DD player.

For example all of this talk of hitting differences with the various patches. Yes their have obviously been tweaks and adjustments made. Even CountryBoy made slider adjustments and I followed suit. But after 5 or so games I moved mine back to default. Does this mean either of us is wrong. Of course not. I play on All Star and I am almost certainly a worse player on Avg. then he is on any given day. What bothers me, doesn't faze him in the least and the reverse can be true as well.

Rebelyell and I have gotten into on more than one occasion and we never really should have. We both play the same game, just in different way and abilities. What bothers him, bothers him. That's the way its suppose to be. Two people playing at the exact same level with the exact same settings will see two different games almost every time. There is also so much variation in the Game of Baseball itself to have one common opinion on game balance.

In my example of two people same settings. Lets add in the variable of what teams we are both playing. Say one guy is playing the Yankees and is having a problem with hitting after a patch. Then you have myself who is playing with the Orioles where the Hot Dog vendor has a higher Vision rating than anybody I can field. I may not see the hitting changes in the same way because, well hell my team can't hit anyway.

My only real gripe I guess when it all comes down to it? I really feel the term "Broke the Game" or just "Broken" as a whole is just used too quickly and casually as a norm nowadays.

Am I struggling with the game this year. Yup I sure am. But it has nothing to do with the game. I have had some anxiety and depression issues pop up again lately and I have fallen into the "let me try this roster or this team" routine and I am constantly restarting over and over again. I have played 60+ games and honestly none of my problems are with the game. The Show '19 is the best it has ever been and is easily a 10 in my book.

The game and different outcomes. I look at it this way. The gamer makes a HUGE difference. Huge. Take a game like, I dunno, Tomb Raider. Playing on the same difficulty level as someone else that person could finish the complete game in 10 hours where it could take me months.

We seldom get the full story regarding settings with this game when people complain they can’t hit, can’t field, and we have no idea what kind of gamer they are. I remember one guy being perfectly honest saying, “I suck”. Well, there are those who just “suck”, those who need some auto settings, those who could play the field almost blindfolded they are so good with the controller, eye hand, etc.
Almost impossible to come to any consensus. Too many variables,and we start giving suggestions for a guy who can’t hit who may be playing on legend when they should probably be playing on rookie. We hardly ever know.

Good point. I am not elite by any means. I used to dynamic difficulty when the game came out and settled on all star plus for hitting and pitching, with it slightly higher on pitching. Directional hitting because I like ratings to matter a bit more and the randomness factor, meter pitching with all fielding settings on manual. For myself on these settings I felt 1.09 was a huge step down for this game. 1.10 has been much better for me personally

But to further your point this game probably plays way different for people from one setting to the next. Hard to gauge what the issues may be
