CPU late inning rallies/HRs
I would agree to an extent, but there’s A LOT of “nothing you can do about that” things that happen in this game, both in terms of the real sport and the way the game plays. There are innumerable RNG/dice roll moments to where at times you can barely notice if something was skill, lack of skill, or dumb luck. Been this way since forever.
The main reason I wanted to make this post though was to suggest that it’s a bit silly to focus on the late innings. A good majority of games will be determined in the late innings anyway just by the nature of the sport. In terms of the dice roll/RNG aspect of this game - even if outcomes were predetermined - that 5-run 8th or 9th could just as easily occur in the 2nd or 3rd. It just stings more because the pressure is on and everything is magnified.
Like, next time you’re in a “boring” 2-2 game in the 7th, remember that yeah of course something’s about to happen in the next 9 outs that will determine the game - it bloody has to lol.Last edited by Detroit Tigers; 07-15-2019, 04:09 PM.Just one man’s opinion.

Re: CPU late inning rallies/HRs
Figured this was relevant to the thread (I'm NYY, and it's a Play Now game, Legend/Legend difficulty):
You can tell by the line score how the game flowed, but here's a few more details. I gave the Angels an extra out in the 7th by inexplicably throwing to the wrong base and the throw being wild, at that. La Stella made me pay for it with a 3 run HR. Once I screwed up that throw I knew I had a really good chance of giving up more runs - you just can't give an MLB team 4 outs and not expect to pay for it.
In the 8th things don't start out well and after the Lucroy 2 run shot I'm staring down La Stella again. He has one of those at bats where he's fouling everything and refuses to go down. So at this point I decide one more pitch is going to decide the at-bat because I'm tiring out my pitcher. I throw a down and in slider way off the plate and he chases it for strike 3, ending the threat.
Chapman comes in and dominates the 9th and I hang on for the 1 run win.
Code cracked.
Wind was blowing out 13 mph to right btw - that's why the ball was jumping so much.
Edit: Huh, that pitch chart is actually a little bugged - there's 2 7th pitches charted. Well, one of them was the 5th and the other was the real 7th - one taken and the other fouled. 5 and 8 are missing actually - but I think one might be behind one of the others. the total number of pitches in the at-bat is correct though, and it's obvious what the strikeout pitch was. I figured the colon marks might just be because it went as long as 10 pitches, but that might be part of why the count is bugged.Last edited by bcruise; 07-15-2019, 05:33 PM.Comment

Re: CPU late inning rallies/HRs
This thread reminded me how much I'm going to thoroughly hate the rule change next year in which a pitcher must face at least 3 batters if he enters the game. I pretty much kill my bullpen over managing to get every best matchup.
And probably another topic, but relief stamina will probably need an adjustment. Gotta love watching your relievers stamina drop to yellow after 4 pitches coming off 1 to 2 days rest....Comment

Might be off topic and information known but do you by chance set your incoming pitcher as “schedule to pitch” while in the bullpen?
If so, there’s a glitch where this effects stamina and pitchers confidence.
I learned this about 2 months ago. It’s been a game changer. I always wondered why my guy had low confidence and stamina when his era was 1.50 lol.

Re: CPU late inning rallies/HRs
Make sure you don't bring in new pitchers from the quick menu either - that can cause the same bug. As a general rule, as long as you always to go the bullpen screen at the time you're making a pitching change, it'll be fine.Comment

Re: CPU late inning rallies/HRs
It's not just the homers. Okay, if they hit one HR, they will tend to hit more. The thing I noticed is they usually hit everything you throw at them even if your confidence is super high. This is usually what I see.
1. All of sudden there are passed balls or wild pitches and you never had any the previous innings.
2. Stupid errors you have no control over on routine groundballs or double plays. Like the ball gets thrown in the stands from an easy double play.
3. Anyone can steal base. Runner is on base and you get a stolen base from a guy with 30 speed.
That's what I noticed.Comment

1. Stop throwing low breaking balls.
2. I know a lot of guys use auto-fielding and won't switch back. I'm still on manual and find that if I take a half second to not rush anything, this doesn't happen. It's also the added pressure of the game. There are more errors IRL in the late innings than there are in the first few innings.
3. Check your defensive positioning. I know that when the CPU is up by a few in the late innings, they'll trade a run for an out by not covering 1st, and going into a no-doubles set-up. If you've got auto-defensive positioning on, this is probably the case.
Hopefully this helps!2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

I still hate that new idea. I could live with 2 batters but I have no idea how they settled on 3 batters.Atlanta Braves

I have never experienced this stuff unless I'm the one that screws it up because I throw to the wrong base or whatever. I don't know how people are experiencing this stuff.Atlanta Braves
