Re: MLB The Show 19 Patch 1.22 Available, Adds adidas 8-Bit Cleats - Patch Notes Here

I held off buying this years game partly as a protest at the lack of franchise additions, so as much as anyone else I’m eager to see some big additions next year. I’ll cut them slack on their social media focus because the content modes like DD lend themselves to social media, but next years feature list certainly needs to include some franchise additions.

Ironically there’s been a shift By EA (of all developers) towards at least throwing franchise players a bone lately. They hired a big franchise Youtuber to their Madden dev team and the NHL series had some major additions this year and last. 2k put a great deal of work into ruining their MyGM mode, but that’s another story.

I just want to play with the historical rosters - that's really all I want. MLBTS 19 was a lot of fun - so if the idea is to forget us offline guys next year, I'll just stick with 19 and hope that guys keep adding more historical files. This many patches this late maybe tells me that this is about what we can expect from the gameplay (which I'm not disappointed) for 20 - and their going to go all out on DD stuff - of which I could totally care less.

Give me a break. You and you alone are the reason I stopped posting here. I decided to drop in and see more of the same nonsense. SDS has blatantly catered to the DD demographic for years. They release GAMEPLAY patches in September because the DD crowd complains. We all know this. Why do you continue blindly supporting every single move they make? It's honestly nauseating at this point. Now you're insulting REGULARS here and then have the audacity to say this is why the developers stopped coming?!!??!! The devs stopped coming here because this website has more franchise players and social media has more DD players so naturally they are going to focus on social media. The fact that we have to continue tweaking sliders in SEPTEMBER because they released a patch that CLEARLY affected gameplay (regardless of the patch notes) is downright ludicrous.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the developers are SALESMEN! They have an agenda to sell games so to believe every word they say as law is honestly foolish and ignorant. To believe that every patch only affects what they say in the patch notes is absurd. They say what they NEED to say. They have to keep sales high. They have to keep their client base happy. They know franchise and offline players are disappointed, but they don't want to lose our sales and so they say what they need to in order to appease everyone. That's business 101.

I've said my piece. Now I shall disappear back into the abyss because Lord knows the response I'm about to receive will be nothing more than baseless drivel to defend a game that clearly has stopped caring about the franchise playing conglomerate.

Wow, so...I haven't posted here in a while (since about the launch of this year's game).

Thought I'd come back, since I skipped MLBTS 19 after renting it from Redbox early in the season and felt 'meh' about it. But now I ended up downloading it anyway since it's "free" on PS Plus. I wanted to see how the game had changed in the many, many patches released since launch.

It's interesting to see that some of the same arguments are going on, and seem to be intensified since I was last here. It's too bad to see fans of this series divided so much, based on the direction the devs have taken the game...

Anyway, does anyone have a brief, high-level overview on how the game changed from launch until now, based on patches?

I'd say it's 97% DD / 3% actual fixes or changes. You can go to their website theshownation and read the patch notes for the individual patches if you want to.

Edit: Honestly, aside from DD content, it's nothing to write home about.

Thanks...exactly what I was assuming was the case. And this will actually save me from reading patch notes for 22 title updates, as I don't really have time to do that!

So basically they added a patch so you can get some kind of cleat but they still haven't even given a thought to fixing things like Long Relievers pitching way to much, No in game injuries in MoM games or the singles to the corner that should probably be doubles.

I think that pretty much sums on MLB 19 for me this year.

The singles down the line that should be doubles is a legacy issue that has been discussed with the developers AD NAUSEUM. Every single year they say it's been fixed in the twitch streams before release and every year it never is. A ground ball down the line in real baseball is a double 99% of the time. In the show it's a single 85% of the time. I guess this is a system limitation too....

They focus on DD because it’s what sells. I think it is as simple as that. They created MtO because data shows hardly anyone ever played through an entire 162 game season. It’s really not rocket science as to why Franchise is ignored. Blame online for all this, the evolution of the online threshold.

The issue lies in the belief that fewer people are playing franchise mode because they've continued to pay such little attention to it. It's a negative feedback loop. If you start to sell rotten apples people begin buying oranges, and not necessarily because they prefer oranges. Their marketing team has become convinced they can't sell an upgraded franchise mode and it's not worth it to try. This is where they're wrong, I believe.

The more they focus on DD, the more people will play it, certainly. But this doesn't mean that upgraded franchise features won't attract more players, either. I think they're making a poor choice, both in terms of general gameplay as well as marketing. Holding two choices in front of a consumer and asking them to choose says nothing about whether or not they would prefer a third option even more...a lesson they might take away from the late Steve Jobs.

They're moving down the path of first-person looter shooters and rpg, following general trends in gaming. And while trying to force sports games into this mold might gain them revenue in the short run, I think it's a long-term mistake. It's previously been pointed out that EA and 2Ksports might have begun to learn this lesson already.

I am sorry but this whole post is unacceptable here on OS. You just are not allowed to express a well thought out, concise argument against the almighty decisions of SDs.

By not completely accepting them as perfect and true in all of there dealings, you are a closed minded oaf who is not worthy of conversation.

You sir, should be ashamed and banned from OS for being too intelligent and opinionated.

Dude has been running the same schpiel for years and gets upset when anyone calls him out on it. SDS could literally release a patch that changes all stadiums into little league parks and he'd say it's innovative and shun anyone who disagreed. I literally stopped coming here because of it.

The one thing I look for in each and every patch is the fix for runners taking off almost every time a ball skips away from the catcher (which happens all too frequently anyway).

I could have sworn they said they fixed this but I think all they did was quicken the catcher's response and ability to get to the ball to throw out the runner. They missed the fact that the runner takes off 95% of the time even if ball is fairly close to the catcher.

Still hoping this gets tweaked some day.
