Opener patch in the future?
I am NOT a fan of "the opener", but it's become a thing that teams are doing now. Wondering if SDS has any plans to out that option in this years game with a future patch, or if it's something they they'll add in to The Show 20....

Guessing it won't go in as you can do it now by just starting someone from the bullpen. It messes with the automatic starter it picks from your rotation but its not a huge deal.Comment

Re: Opener patch in the future?
I knew you could kind of do it in franchise, but in other modes it's not really an option. I know in DD and MtO you can't warm up a starter after having a relief pitcher begin the game. I wasn't even sure you were able to warm the starter up in franchise if you "open" with a RP.Commissioner of the Donkey Punch Sports Leagues -,

In franchise you can bring in a starter from the bullpen. Just press R1 to cycle from bullpen to rotation.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I wish they'd add that into the DD ranked seasons. Burning through the bullpen can happen in games and then you're stuck with a ragged arm for three innings until you win, or your pitcher serves up a meatball because of exhaustion.Commissioner of the Donkey Punch Sports Leagues -,

Re: Opener patch in the future?
Unless they add in starter fatigue (even if only for appearances from the bullpen) this would just be abused by people bringing in their best starter after 1 AB.Comment

Who knows. It's probably a real short phase MLB is going through, just like pitchers batting 8th. To me it's really stupid since you're going to be bringing in a starter anyway, but managers these days try all kind of weird stuff which ends off making no difference in any advantage they get.Comment

Wouldn't matter to me, or probably most, but would matter to some.Comment

Re: Opener patch in the future?
I'd like to see some sort of a manager strategy, personality or ideals for every team. So Kevin Cash would have opener as one of his ideals and someone like Craig Counsell would have quick manager hook as part of his strategy.
This would go a long way in terms of differing teams from other teams and managers from others.Comment

I'm not sold on using an opener in the Show but if hitting is timing and pitching is upsetting timing then it might hang around for awhile, even if its only a couple teams doing it. if every team did it, I dont think it would be successful at all. if I did decide to use it in the Show, it would be spring training only
I didnt get it at first either. I think the idea is (hypothetical) you open with a righty... They play their lineup with a bunch of Left handed hitters in the lineup and then boom, you get your bulk innings LHP, who would be a starter, to face a bunch of their left handed hitters.Comment

Re: Opener patch in the future?
[QUOTE=lemarflacco;2049932710]I love this idea. And different lineup structures too. Some manager put their best hitter in the 2 spot, some might prefer there best hitter leadoff as opposed to the fastest person.
They actually already have a touch of this in the game so they've already taken the first step. Joe Maddon batting his pitcher 8th is consistent if he manages a different team.Comment

I'm honestly hoping this is one thing that's incorporated in 2020 but I can already see the "it's their first year with the console" posts.Comment
