Re: MLB The Show Coming to Additional Console Platforms, as early as 2021

I originally purchased a PS3 in high school because that's what my friend group had. When the next gen consoles came out I stayed with PS4 at launch because I didn't know any different. I bought the Battlefield 1 military green Xbox 1 S and sold my PS4 but quickly but a PS4 Pro to get my MLB gaming fix. I now own a PS4 Pro and an Xbox One X. If MLB the Show truly comes out on the Xbox Series X in 2021 then I will only be purchasing the XSX given all my friends now are Xbox users. This is a huge win for the non-PS crowd and a smart business move by MLB to negotiate a deal to get the best baseball game of this last decade on to more consoles in front of younger audiences for the next generation of gamers. Good on MLB.

Why did I think SDS was owned by Sony? Guess it's not if they are expanding into other platforms.

Sony has put their games on other platforms in the past, this isn't unprecedented.

I think we're going to see Sony distance themselves from their own system as we move further into the future though. Just like Microsoft has done with their games (which moving forward will all be available on PC), Sony will just produce a box that will play all of their games, but give players more freedom to choose where to play their games.

Honestly, I feel it's either that or get crushed by the competition for Sony. I think they'll have far more success as a publisher anyways. They've mostly been buoyed by the quality of their games to this point anyways.

I disagree here. PS4 has (by far) been the most purchased system this gen with xbox a distant third (I believe the Switch as caught and passed MS). Sony has had a ton of exclusives that are critically acclaimed games, including "The Show". Multi-plat games are cool but having a game specific to a system (such as God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, etc) makes for a healthy competition for the systems....at least to me anyway.

Have to say, I'm excited that I don't have to be locked into owning a PS machine to play the Show. I am interested to see how it plays on the Switch and I am also hoping for crossplay between the PS system and Xbox systems.

Ok, say that the next-gen Xbox outperforms the ps5 ala the x vs the pro. once 21 or will it be 22 comes out... if in fact by then it is proven that the ps5 is a lesser console will you switch to the Xbox to play the show?

not me. the only interest I have outside PlayStation would be on a PC, but I think it likely won't be on non-consoles.

UNLESS ... I hear the game is far more customisable on xbox. but again, unlikely.

Yeah. I think Sony will, smartly, demand SDS maintain parity. That is based on my theory that MLB forced Sony's hand on exclusivity. I don't think Sony has to strong-arm SDS to get that parity. SDS is where they are due to Sony.

I don't think The Show will be coming to consoles, as sports gaming on the PC is largely dead as it is. I doubt EA had any interest in a PC version of their baseball game, even if they had gotten the exclusive rights. I just doubt Sony will see any profit from doing a PC version.

One thing that could be interesting is that Sony could get SDS to make DD exclusive to the PS5, or provide benefits that make DD better on the PS5. This would keep a larger portion of the revenue generated by The Show for Sony.
