Re: MLB The Show 20 Livestream - Defensive Fundamentals (Archive Included)

I didn't hear how the "dive" for this mechanic was implemented. He kept mentioning "stick".

I am hopeful that this is NOT the case, and that they kept dive with the R-Trigger.

A problem that "could" arise (*ahem*) would be if you are a guy who plays with Pure Analog Fielding. Were the dive mechanic to be tied to the R-Stick, there may be a potential problem whereby you could be feilding a nice easy two hopper in right field, and you pre-load the throw (like one has done forever) and the fielder, upon that R-Stick, Pre-Load input, would dive onto the ground for absolutely no reason.

Or, on a throw to second base using Pure Analog (which is the Twelve O'clock input) on the R-stick, the fielder might inexplicably jump up into the air, and allow the ball to roll to the wall...

Or, let's say there is a guy at first, and a line-single is hit to the centerfielder. You pre-load a throw to third to cut him down, but instead, your center fielder dives to his right prior to the ball getting there, and the ball rolls into the center-field expanse for a triple, or an inside the park homerun.

Now, realize that when I say this "could" happen, and that it "could" be a potential real big issue, I may or may not be implying that I already had this issue. Many times. And it is a real problem.

Now, if one is given the option to use the R-stick, if that person playing is a Button-Throw player, but that option can be mapped to the R-Trigger for the Pure Analog Throw player, there will be no issues.

However, if this major oversight is left as it was presented, there will be a revolt coming from the Analog Defense crew.

Again, if this were to be a "potential" problem.

    Which it is.

Yes, let’s hope that is all sorted out because it could be potentially not fun.

Not sure, the only thing I can attribute it to is that I move my outfield around a lot. Quite often I am nailing the runner at third and home.

Could be as rarely do I shift my outfield and occasionally move them to play DEEP or SHALLOW

The button accuracy looks cool and the perfect relay throws should add a lot to playing defense.

I’m curious how this will work for Analog Meters. Will there be the same mechanism if you point the R stick exactly down as opposed to a little left/right.

Hopefully them doing this will also fix the routine ground balls in the infield and having the second baseman on a Green throw have it short hop the first baseman causing a dramatic scoop instead of just hitting him in the chest.

A little disappointed that this is only on sinking like drives. They mention 700 new animations ... if we had 30 new ones in the outfield in terms of catch variety that would be amazing. I pictures ECI to be for like dives on ball over your head as well or even HR robs ... but I guess it’s for linking line drives. Hope they really expand on this as we really need cleaner animations for ELITE average and bad OF. Dives need to look better for that variety. It’s good we have the footwork and jumps now we need actual dive and athletic looking differences out there in terms of catching. I’m always excited for the new year. Especially for the one after this [emoji16]

Wouldn’t analog throwing be more interesting if they would also add some sort of meter like button accuracy. Then the green spot is the area where you’re gonna throw a good enough throw but also have a sweet “perfect” spot like they added for homeplate throws that gives you a perfect throw to the base.

This meter is then dynamic and untill the fielder releases the ball you can stear/correct the analog stick direction to try and hit the sweetspot.
