Re: MLB The Show 20 Preview: Franchise Mode, Real Minor League Rosters and Road to th

Honestly, I think many people underestimate the improvements made. Day 1 minors is huge for me. It was the difference in me buying standard version again vs the MVP version for the first time to get that early access. I no longer have to buy the game and wait weeks to actually start enjoying my favorite mode -- franchise. It means that I install and can instantly play it, and it was even worth shelling out an extra 20 bucks to get it early for me. Not only that, but for those who play multiple seasons, your beloved prospects have NAMES! No longer have to hear, now up to the plate, number 17. How much did that kill realism and immersion? Plus 100+ of the top prospects have face scans, again realism.

Personally, I'm not that into the relocation features -- I think it is still a year away from being enjoyable, much like March to October last year...but if they get to a point where I can bring back the expos with uni's and stadium that would be awesome.

The part that I feel is neglected most is all of the gameplay improvements...yes, these also improve other modes, but that shouldn't minimize their effect on the enjoyability of franchise mode. Outside of player progression, 2 of my major pet peeves were names of prospects (fixed) and how you don't have to judge a line drive. There was no penalty for charging every line drive because it never bounced away, no matter how short the hop was.

I think this will bring a lot of realism and more difficulty to the game (franchises included). It also makes games more fluid and fun. If the throwing changes truly make it more difficult, I think that will make the gameplay better as well. In 19, you essentially never have a throwing error.

There were rule changes that were put into effect this year that were added to the game -- on top of all the patching of last years game as the year went on. I think people may have an unrealistic expectation on how much time this all takes to develop. This is a pretty big undertaking for a 1 year period.

No matter what SDS does, not everyone will be happy. Even among franchise players, there are those that think relocation is worthless and those that have been waiting years for it. You may not have gotten the change you wanted this year (or the prior several years), but I don't think that doesn't mean the game will not be improved for franchise players. I look forward to this year.

Will I probably need to adjust player ratings again?...yes. But, I'll also get to start playing 2-3 weeks earlier and have a better gameplay experience. Well done SDS. We still want progression fixed, but in my opinion, it is a nuisance, not a game breaker. This will be the best year yet.
