Re: MLB The Show 20 Livestream: Diamond Club/Ratings Discussion Can Go Here

Not a whole lot for me in this stream since it's all ratings and discussion about the best Live Series players, but they did confirm that HR/9 once again does not affect gameplay (or overall rating).

They're showing the DD versions of these ratings, which means that the individual ratings can go over 100 (99 is still the offline modes max).

It affects pitchers tendencies to give up HR's in sims (including quick manage stuff - basically anytime you're not actually seeing a pitch in real time). It has no effect on real-time gameplay.

At launch last year, HR/9 had this sort of effect during actual gameplay. It was reverted in a mid-cycle patch. So there was some question whether they'd bring that effect back for '20, but it appears not.

I mean what is to say about DD?? you get cards you pay real money for them if your stupid enough. you grind you grind you grind you grind, just like every monetized mode in sports games it's designed to bore you to death but make it addicting enough for you to spend real money instead of waiting. it's the 'world of warcraft' of sports games that's killing our sports game.

anyhow I miss stuff like the little things streams we never know we might get a few things that we are not suppose to pick up on during the stream.

I didn’t think I’d get much out of this stream but I learned that a 60 rating in attributes is the major league average

I had hoped for a new legend reveal, but instead they revealed a legend we already knew about.

60 for overall, or each category?

It was mentioned when discussing the individual attributes

Some other tidbits that may/may not be new information:

-Hitting ratings verus righties are weighed more heavily than versus lefties in overall calculation
-Players in secondary positions take 5 percent hit at reaction, fielding and arm accuracy
-SDS uses a three year average with a 1:1:1 ratio when calculating ratings for the release day roster
-There is continued emphasis on advanced metrics in their ratings calculations; this is the 2nd year of this emphasis I believe
-Pitch framing metrics are taken into account for catchers. It appears those calculations are factored into the fielding attribute.

DD is the least money-hungry of the modes out there in the landscape at least. I think it's the one where you 100 percent don't need to spend a dime and the grind doesn't feel nearly as crappy to get there either. I mean they for sure still want your money, but it feels like they want you to get there more by a level of appreciation than frustration in comparison to the other versions.

I mean if you actually played DD in 19 you'd know that it's by far the least grindy ultimate team mode of the sports games and that it's easy to get good cards early without spending money, and there's a variety of ways to get them. Just because you don't like the mode doesn't mean it's not a quality mode.
