Re: Manage mode players
The SDS Baseball Gods dangled an illusive carrot in front of my nose in a MoM game this afternoon. I had a no-hitter going with a 1-0 lead over the Dodgers going into the 9th inning. My SP, Patrick Corbin had thrown a little over hundred pitches to this point, but he wasn't completely out of gas and what can you do. I knew he was vulnerable, but I have yet to experience a no-hitter since I began playing MoM games dating back to MLBTS12 and I just had to keep him in the game. Unfortunately with no outs and a 3-2 count the Dodgers lead off batter Justin Turner blooped a lazy single into RF ending the no-no and caused me to pull Corbin from the game and replace him with a completely warmed up CP Sean Doolittle who has yet to blow a save in the season. What happened next? On the first pitch Mookie Betts clobbered the ball out of the park and that was it, lights out, game over.
It was just like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.Comment

Re: Manage mode players
I had 3 weird occurrences in the same franchise game:
1. Chris Davis tags up and moves to 3rd without a throw or slide. The injury notice comes up that said he suffered a bad break and will be out for some time. Thing is that he finished the game and not until after I advanced to the next day did it show he was on the IL.
2. J.D. Martinez is on second base. A ball drilled to the right field gap; JDM tags up and doesn't even attempt to advance until the ball hits the ground, where he then only made it third base. I mean, there was no doubt where the ball was going to hit.
3. The only way I would have even noticed this next situation is because I love to manage from the Pressbox view. A common practice for me is to assign defensive alignment to each hitter at the beginning of the game. Later in the game when I needed to adjust an alignment, the new alignment wouldn't take or players becoming way out of position, like first basemen holding the runner when there wasn't a runner, or one infielder in a shift when a shift wasn't called. I just couldn't do anything to fix it.
Sorry for the long post, just a little frustrated seeing these situations that I've never experienced before.Comment

Re: Manage mode players
I'm still in spring currently so I don't know if it's different. I know it didn't happen in 19, but is the rain delays added to MoM this year?

Re: Manage mode players
I was playing a MoM game today and I had made a 2nd mound visit in the bottom of the 9th meaning I am forced to replace my pitcher. Now I had one of my setup relievers warming up while my closer was stretching. But the game would not allow me to sub in either of these two pitchers, nor would it allow me to sub in any other pitcher (other non-warmed up relievers and/or starters) but it would also not allow me to exit the bullpen. I had no other choice to abandon the game. Now I did sim the game as a win since I had a 4 run lead at the time this all happened. But it sucks because a few of my players had really good games and of course their stats for the game were lost. Has anyone seen this before where the game would not allow you to put in any pitchers even though you were going to have to replace the pitcher because of doing two mound visits? I had done two mound visits before knowing in most cases I am going to need to swap pitchers. grrrrrrrrComment

Re: Manage mode players
I'm curious how other manage mode players are handling the new bullpen rules. It's unfortunate MLB didn't start as planned because I was looking forward to see how managers handled it IRL.
Except for the closer I'm avoiding putting a new pitcher on the mound to begin an inning in a close game. The reason is because sometimes regardless of attributes a pitcher just doesn't have good stuff and will get hit hard. I'm also staying with relief pitchers longer than in the past. Previously a short relief pitcher would only pitch one inning but if he is recording outs I stay with him longer now.
2 out bases empty is a good time to bring in a new pitcher because even if he struggles he only needs 1 out. If he struggles to begin an inning you are in a big jam by the time you go to the bulllpen.≡Comment

Re: Manage mode players
I don't let the 3 batter rule overly influence my decisions. As someone who controls a NL team, I tend to pay closer attention to how well (or poorly) my pitchers are doing and when are they set to come to bat next. In other words, if I have a reliever who is performing well in an inning he just finished and he's not set to come to bat anytime soon, I will keep him out there for a 2nd or maybe even 3rd inning if need be. However if a reliever threw a lot of pitches and is kind of struggled, I will swap him out in the next inning using double switches when they also make sense. Of the 30 regular season games I have completed to date in my 2020 season, I can think of only one game where having to keep a poorly performing reliever out there for the 3 batter minimum cost me the game. There has been more than one game where a reliever performed poorly, but in those other cases I was already trailing in the game. So as I said, I think the new rule has only cost me to lose the game once.
With that said, it would have been interesting to see how the real world managers would have handled the rule change.Last edited by My993C2; 04-24-2020, 04:35 PM.Comment

Re: Manage mode players
Is anyone noticing a noticable team decline towards the end of seasons? I manage only 1 game, quick manage 5 games. Ive gone through 3 seasons (2 with cubs, 1 with baltimore). Ive noticed my team TANKS starting just before September.good Hitters go cold, good pitchers get rocked. Am i doing something wrong? I try rest players once their stamina bar gets below 50%.Comment

Re: Manage mode players
You have to go to quit game and there is an option to sim to end, but you can interrupt the sim anytime. However, you can not tell it when to stop the sim like you could with fast forward. Once again, they remove something that wasn't a problem and for no reason.Comment
