Re: How do you guys play your franchise?

Like others, due to time constraints, I usually play one/sim 5. Hopefully this year I can find more "me" time. I handle contracts, free agents, drafting, and setting 40 man during offseason, but let the cpu handle 25 man/call ups during the season.

My biggest problem is settling on a slider set and "re-starting" for whatever reason. Now that I'm sold on directional hitting / classic pitching, I'm hoping that will cure some of my re-start issues. My hope is I can run multiple franchise at different levels:

Veteran - layed back, relaxed, fun 'chise
    All-star - #1 official 'chise
    HOF - #2 official 'chise
Legend - insane 'chise where I get destroyed on a regular basis. The goal is to not rage quit, curse, or thow a controller. [emoji6][emoji16]

I usually play each starters next start. So play ace, sim 5, play 2nd starter, etc.

I quick manage the simmed games till the all star break, then I use this MLB wheel thing instead of quick manage for sim games (unless the wheel tells me too of course).

I change it to add variety but this keeps things fresh and allows me to get deeper into my franchise.

For those interested, here it is:

But the game maker SDS forced those of us who only want to play one season into the Franchise mode when they purposely removed Season mode from the game even though in past years they boasted how they would never ever dream of removing a feature from the game.

I play every game in a carry over franchise until my team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. I took the Pirates because they are a challenge due to low budget and I use self imposed trade restrictions.

Re: How do you guys play your franchise?

I enjoy the GM/Owner aspects of the game as much, or moreso, than I do actually playing the games. So, that's a big part of the appeal of the game to me, and I can't help but dig into it. Because of that, its often rare for me to take the actual year one rosters of the game and start really playing games. More often, I do all of the GM activities but sim the games for at least one season, and then jump into really playing the games in year two or later.

Sometimes this means that I'll play the games for a while at the start of the year, then get frustrated and/or bored with the players that I have and start GM simming again until the next year. However, there have been a few different times that I've played every pitch of every game through the World Series. The first time that I did this it was in the 4th or 5th year of my franchise, having simmed most of the games up until that point. I had a ton of extra vacation time to use that year, and I think that I played all of the games between May and August.

More recently, I've stopped buying the title every year, and when I finally get a roster that I really like, I might spread playing every game over two actual years, stopping for a few months, and then picking it back up in between playing other video games.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

With the full minors being included an March to October having dynamic difficulty, I'm wondering if it may be a good idea to start a franchise with MTO, use those games to have your dynamic level established, then go through the offseason as IIRC you can transition your MTO into a full franchise, right?

But then I guess I wouldn't be able to do 30 team control to fix the CPU's awful roster management.

not a full franchise but it is baseball, lotsa great stuff happens in the course of 1 single solitary season. I have a carry-over franchise that originated in Show 14, but the vast majority of my playing is 1 & done seasons, with various teams across the league, a sort of franchise lite. I dont worry about drafts, minor leagues, budgets (for the most part, still gotta mind those pennies somewhat), its mostly about just playing the game, and playing for the ultimate goal of winning big, and right away. it's cutthroat for sure, most times I dont win the WS and I lose my job because upper mgmt. has decided to go in another direction, see Ausmus' Angels 2019. the Ghost of Steinbrenner haunts every organisations front office in Caulfield's universe lol
its a different fun from a full franchise but it is fun, no doubt. baseball, ain't nothing like it, nowhere.

I used to be like that. But you have to look at it as if this it’s own separate universe. Otherwise, your immersion will always get broken somehow. Because let’s face it, it’s never going to mirror real life regardless how good the mode is. As years go on, unrealistic things will happen. So just try to look at it as it’s own parallel universe.

And if you think about it, weird things happen in real like too. Look at Tim Lincecum, no one could’ve predicted him winning CY’s and then just falling off a cliff. Anything can happen in baseball. Guys emerge as 30 years olds and starts can fizzle our way before they should. No sense trying to constantly comparing it to the real MLB.

As long as things start out realistic, I can now keep the immersion despite what crazy things happen along the franchise.

I also like to get 7-10 years in, so I can at least go through a generation. And get to see young prospects grow. I’m still trying to find the right balance on how many games to play and still keep things at a good pace. If you aim too much, you lose touch with your team. It’s a hard balance to find for me with a 162 game schedule.

Last year I did play one, quick manage the next 5 and repeat. So I was always pitching with a new pitcher in my rotation. It seemed to work pretty well.

I also use to play season mode mostly, it was fun and youcould modify it enough to fit the time you had to play. I got excited when i saw custom leagues but got disappointed quickly when i found out its only for online. I hope next year we get an offline custom league / season mode that we can modify to our hearts content.

For now I do play franchise mode, i normaly do 3 franchises. 1 with the real players and I pick a team to manage but do 30 team control with 29 set on cpu settings so they control themselfs but this way i can roleplay if i decide to manage a different team at some point. As for how I play I play 1 game in a series and quick manage the rest most of the time.

The other franchise i alsp play with real players but add myself as a player to the roster and do a player lock of my own player.

The last franchise I do a fictional roster using bacons fictional roster which i found really fun to use this past year.

Player Lock with a good supporting line up of good contact hitters at every position. Not a super star built team but a balanced one that does not rely on my Player Lock player to be clutch every game.

So much fun! I wish the dynamic team stuff from RTS in MLB 2020 would carry over to Franchise mode. So much team engagement to be done. This mode gets like a 2% update every year. I always feel bad for the guy who has to present on twitch stream he just looks so bummed LOL. Oh well that’s how I play my Franchise.
