Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

Hello everyone. I am new to this thread and have been an avid MLB the Show player for five+ years now. I have read every post on this thread, and also the original Bacon thread.

I recently came across Bacon's roster, and wanted to give a huge thanks and shout out for this work and for making this available to everyone. It is great stuff and I will be making sure to post highlights on YouTube as time permits when I use the players. (Today I watched New York's Cartwright shut down Pittsburgh! Incredible! Several home runs, many good screen shots to take).

I have been working on a fictional baseball story for a while now - Super Joe - (who knows when I will publish it, if ever) - set in a dystopian future in Pittsburgh -- and I ran into the age old issue of "If this is set in Pittsburgh with Joe on the Pirates then . . . " What if the Pirates don't like it? What then? Will I never get to publish my baseball story?

Because of what could be licensing issues, I decided that the story had to be set with a fictional Pittsburgh roster - even though it is permissible to use real life players in cameo, etc.

So last night, I spent a good deal of time running a season with Bacon's roster to "cheat" so that I could figure out who (at least for year one) should be on a Bacon's Fictional All Star's team where I could import my own players - and then combine them into the team to play against Legend players.

Time probably will prevent me from importing a team into Bacon's Universe alone (although the rebranded league looks awesome!), and also playing out a season there - as I can never even seem to finish a season of RTTS timely (real life commitments, sigh) - but I am going to try to do so if I can.

But in any event, thank you Bacon - in particular - and also the rest of everyone posting here. This is all such great and exciting stuff, and I hope that someday some of these players will make a cameo in the story I have been working on - and that I can breath some extra magic into their virtual souls.

      -Joe

Having a lot of fun with this can't wait to get these boys on the field. With all the time involved to create these logos I hope we can transfer these to the next game. Is there any way we can put these on the vault so others can enjoy them ? One more Thing the cut sleeves You see on the Kansas City Athletics Uniform aren't Cut high enough I hope they adjust that next year.20200427_171151.jpeg20200427_171035.jpeg20200427_170540.jpegScreenshot_20200427-112251_Google.jpeg

3 outs from a perfect game. Walks batter...okay no perfect game but no hitter on the table still. Deep fly to center! Phew he runs over and snags it. 2 outs... crack of the bat it's headed for 2nd... and it's over his head. [emoji20]

And with that for the second time this year I've been within striking distance of a no-no and couldn't seal the deal. The Padres still have yet to record a no hitter in franchise history.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

It's the year 2072 back on Earth. I'm reporting to you live from Heaven, two years after I was electrocuted while flying a metal-stringed kite in a thunderstorm. It ended quickly.

On the bright side, here in Heaven, all the greatest baseball players of all-time (each in their prime, as we all are here) have collaborated to play in the All-Time League. Even the Negro League stars are getting into it, having re-birthed the Birmingham Black Barons - who will replace the Tampa Bay Rays in the All-Time League's AL East (Tampa Bay packed their bags for Montreal in Winter of 2027).

Some of the rosters in this league are truly something to behold. The Yankees 1-6 of Dimaggio/Jeter/Ruth/Gehrig/Mantle/A-Rod is a murderer's row of newly burst proportions, and the Giants boast a fearsome heart of the lineup

(Not listed: Orlando Cepeda, who is sailing in Heaven Thailand but will return shortly)

Having grown up in the 90's when the Atlanta Braves were on TBS - and hence, my main form of viewable baseball - I have a special affinity for Maddux, Glavine, Chipper, Andruw and the boys, and the idea of seeing them play out a season with Hank Aaron, Warren Spahn, and Eddie Matthews is a dream come true. I'll be following the Braves throughout this first season of the All-Time League, with frequent reports here.

Until then, I'll be hanging out with my childhood dog by the infinity pool.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

Opening Day is in the books! Out in Arizona, a sneaky-talented Diamondbacks team played host to the heavy-fisted Atlanta Braves. It was a battle of two all-time greats on the mound: Greg Maddux vs. Randy Johnson.

Johnson was dominant through 8, mixing a blazing high fastball with sliders to keep Atlanta honest.

Maddux pitched well aside from a 3-1 fastball that Mark Reynolds demolished over the left-field fence. In uncharacteristic fashion, he walked two batters. (The following day, Controller1 discovered the miracles of "Game Mode" on his Samsung, and walks/pitch-meter-timing are no longer an issue.)

Dale Murphy steps in against Randy Johnson

Up 4-1 heading into the 9th, the Diamondbacks elected to take out The Big Unit - who'd been excellent - and bring in Byung-Yung Kim. This proved to be a mistake. The Braves offense, who'd struggled all game, chipped together hit after hit, ultimately taking the lead 5-4.

Andruw keeps the 9th inning rally going

Chipper singles up the middle to give the Braves a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the 9th, Atlanta bought in Craig Kimbrel, who struck out two, cementing a thrilling comeback win on Opening Day.

In other baseball news, the reborn Birmingham Barons took down the talented Pittsburgh Pirates squad behind a dominant start by Satchel Paige

I guess both pitching staffs decided that a rainy day in Kansas City was good reason to take the day off. I pulled Michael Money after 1.1 innings, 7 of the first 8 runs belonged to him. KC pulled there pitcher after 2.1 innings. My staff gave up 4 HRs and KC gave up just the one. The rest of my runs were just playing small ball hitting station to station and shots to the gap. The guy I had closing the game gave walked the first batter then gave up a double. So he promptly got replaced. I barely scraped the win.

As Trade Deadline Looms Padres Make A Move

July 26th - As we barrel towards the trade deadline San Diego looked to beef up on their bullpen and strengthen their patchwork outfield. The Padres sent LF Preston Steiner along with 2 minor leaguers (1B Chuck Wilson, SS Ramiro Tabata) to Oakland for CF Cole Dyer and RP Hitoki Oshiro.

The Friars see Dyer (.278, 16 RBI, 4 HR) as an upgrade over Steiner both in the field and at the plate. With the acquisition of Oshiro (2.97 ERA, 55 SO, 1.36 WHIP in 78.2 innings) San Diego hopes that he is the final piece needed to make for a solid pitching staff to make the playoff push as the season winds down.

I just Played you're Padres in my franchise. A 4 game set in SD. I took 3 of 4. The first game I faced Alexzander Starks, what a beast he is! I couldn't hit him at all and Lost 1-0 How is he for you? He's 3-3 with a 3.83 era in 7 starts with 65 K's! I am seriously thinking of trading for him, He's only a D pot, has a nasty slider and blazing fastball. Game 2 I clobbered you're pal Shane Lindmann, sent him packing in the 2nd. BTW, those Padre uni's are sweet this year!

When Stark's is good he's really good. His fast ball is pure heat. I've seen him up at 101mph a couple of times. The issue is he has low control so if his confidence drops or he's having an off day you'll issue a lot of free passes or he'll lose one over the heart and that fastball gets deposited in the seats. I think I've mentioned before that's he's my LRP/spot starter I think thats a great role for him. I personally don't have the necessary skill set and/or have a good enough team defensively to overcome his lack of control.

I think Lindemann won his first game of the season since I traded him to the Mets he's one of two LRP they have now.

Honestly 90% of the reason I choose the Padres are the uniforms. [emoji3] I'm a Mariners fan IRL but have a save from last year that I have yet to touch because I'm having to much fun with Bacons roster.

Question for the group. I'm at the end of July so I can do contract extensions. Is there any advantages or disadvantages to signing extensions now versus after the season.

Not exactly an advantage in terms of a discount, but one advantage of attempting to sign players to an extension prior to the trade deadline is so that if you know you can’t sign a player then you can trade him. For example, if you’re the Cubs and you get to July and Bryant won’t sign an extension that allows you to stay under the luxury tax then you can trade him.
