I’m just confused at how we go through this every year. It’s too easy to hit... update. Too few strikeouts.... update. Hot dog vendors don’t sell enough hot dogs.... update.

The game engine has been the same for a very long time to say the least, you’d think it would be pretty solid with no glaring issues right out of the box.

I’ve given it much thought and I’ve played baseball video games all my life. I’m a long-time veteran of The Show and value Armor’s thoughts and his sliders. He’ll say that you need a sample size of 30-50 games before an issue such as this needs to be addressed. Well, I’ve played The Show for long enough and I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that I don’t need that many games to determine that there’s just entirely too many home runs. It completely takes the excitement out of hitting them for me. I play on Hall of Fame for both hitting and pitching and I’m destroying the ball like never before. Yes, I know I’m early in the season but I’m currently on pace for 486 home runs. The all time record that was set last year by the Indians was 309... and that’s an AL team. I play as the Cubs, with only 8 position hitters in the lineup most games.

Furthermore, here’s the true heart of the issue. And people can say whatever they want, but it’s true. All sports games have catered to the online crowds the past 10 or so years, and now it’s trickling directly into offline franchise modes. Franchise mode has already been left for dead and has not really had any significant updates in a long, long time. And since SDS makes all of its money from Diamond Dynasty, that’s who they cater to. And this group is largely populated by 12-year old kids that want to do backflips crossing home plate after their 8th home run of the game in their neon uniforms. That’s who the game is being developed for as the years go on.

So this arcade style, rouided out home run fest is a direct result of people in Diamond Dynasty crying about not hitting a 525 foot homer every time they have, “perfect,” timing. Meanwhile all we can do is hope that someday SDS helps out the fans that made them popular in the first place.

What needs to happen, but never will, is there needs to be two modes. Keep the game EXACTLY how it is right now and let it work like it does in Diamond Dynasty so little Joey can score 18 runs a game and hit bombs for days. But give us a, “simulation,” toggle that allows franchise users to get a realistic experience.

I def understand your frustrations with franchise mode not receiving attention, but
...I think you're beating the Diamond Dynasty crowd into the ground a bit much. I was never a fan of these "ultimate team" modes because I've always preferred a more sim experience. However, the show is one of the few games that IMO is still pretty "sim" even in DD. Of course the games are on all star to make it more accessible, and the games are shorter to make it easier to play multiple games in one sitting.

Anyway I do share your distaste for the crowd you're describing, but I've also played against a lot of very good players in ranked seasons that aren't "cheesy" or much different from the "sim crowd." I've played the show since 2006 and I've always been a hardcore franchise player, but diamond dynasty is a very enjoyable game mode. I'm very glad that I finally gave it a chance last year, because it gives me two ways to enjoy a game that I care very much about.

IMO most of the "DD YouTube/Twitch" guys are complaining just as much as the "offline sim" guys are. This isn't DD vs. Franchise, it's effecting us all. The people who were complaining about hitting at release were the bottom of the barrel toxic asshats, and yes they probably favor DD, but lumping all of the DD players into one group seems a little misguided.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

Idk how to really start my post here but I want to just address my thoughts and experiences. First of all, I find it weird that everyone is hitting HRs like crazy. I’m not saying it’s not an issue, but from the 13 games I’ve played, it doesn’t translate. So I think it’s important to note what difficulty you’re on, what hitting interface you’re using (i.e. zone, etc), what sliders you have, and what team you’re using. I’ll fully acknowledge that I’m not exceptional skilled at the game; I have terrible hand-eye coordination and my eye sight is slowly fading. But I have played every game since MLBtS 11 (with this issue being my problem with MLBtS 18). Again I’ve played 13 games, and here are my stats.

        Team: MN Twins
Difficulty: All-Star (1 game was in Dynamic AS, 1 game in HOF)
Hitting: Directional (1 HR was used with Zone)
        Power slider @ 6
        Solid Hits slider @ 6
        CPU Power slider @ 4
FB and OS pitch speed @ 7

I have only hit 9 HRs in 13 games. The CPU has hit 23. Only in 2 games, I’ve hit multi HRs. And again, I’m playing as the Twins, who smashed the HR record. Also, I use Guess Pitch because, again, poor coordination and eyesight, and I also use it to pick up pitch patterns. Anyway, most of my contact with Directional is “Okay”, and some are “Good”. And I’ve explained in the Franchise Thread that I am trying to get a certain balance to where I’m equally early and late with swings. On default, I was always early. Same with my pitching though. I don’t want to be completely dominate, but I also don’t want to give up multi HR games on a consistent basis.

Anyway, I just thought it was odd that my experience is much different from your guys’ experience.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

It's not the solid hits , try turning timing down to 2 or 3.

          I use 6 contact
          6 power
          Solid hits 4
          Foul freq 7

But timing at 4 originally from last year it's fine, but I could even go to 2 or 3 and fix the hr issue.

You’re probably right about all of that regarding Diamond Dynasty, so let’s just hope there’s an update soon that addresses this. I remember a few years back it was a similar issue. I hit three homers with Schwarber in one game including a pair of grand slams. I was pumped.... until I have 5 million homers in my first month of the season.

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

Wait, so am I the only one who's hitting NO home runs????

I've played 10 games, and have hit one, which JUST made it above the wall and bounced back onto the field. I'm playing on variable difficulty, so it started on rookie, and hasn't moved up from there yet.

I left the sliders at default for the first five games, and had trouble hitting the ball very far past the infield. So then I cranked up all of the human hitting sliders by two, and I've finally started to get some decent contract and hitting some doubles. But just the one homer, and I play with the Cubs, so my lineup has a lot of power.

Now, I'm allowing homers to the CPU on a normal basis. About two a game. But on my side, its like the power has been sapped out of my guys.

this year you can start the variable/dynamic difficulty to where you want it to start. it may or may not help to start it at veteran and skip beginner and rookie

Re: What happened?! WAYYY to many HRs.

I haven't had the same problem that other people have, but I do have a theory as to why.

I think the issue is the perfect perfect system. It's basically adding more positive results on top of the old system. I personally like it, but a big part of that is because of my hybrid sim/arcade play style where I create a balance between attributes and player input having an impact.

I think a big part of the reason why I haven't been having as much of an issue is twofold.

                  1. One of the first slider changes I made was to raise CPU pitch consistency. Less meatballs means less perfect perfect.

                  2. I play on pulse pitching, which inherently has better consistency than the other pitching interfaces, especially if you're good at it (which I am).

People are correct to turn down timing as well, as I noticed that reduces the timing window for perfect perfect. I don't agree with the power nerf people are doing. Power effects bat exit velocity ceilings, and those are where they should be, it just seems that it's proccing to often for some as perfect perfect guarantees a bat exit velocity at or near maximum.

I tried raising consistency to 7 for HUM/CPU. HUM/CPU had a combined 11 HRs thru 8 innings (btw..no wind going out) before I simmed the remainder of the game (first time I had to do that in a long time). Now I play classic pitching and have done so for years. This is the first year no matter how far (within reason) I try to pitch off the plate the ball finds its way back to the middle and each time it gets crushed...even by guys who have no power. And when I say crushed, I don't mean P/P, just good contact was sending balls 410 ft with these weak players. That's been my frustration. You can understand with big hitters, but the liners and bloop guys?

I am getting great results on HOF once I actually lowered the consistency but also lowered the power and solid hits. In 4 games, I hit 3 HRs and the CPU zero. So I probably need a slight tweak somewhere just not sure where yet as I've only played 4 games with new settings.

That's good to know. Although as poorly as I'm doing, I'm not going to crank it up yet.

I just played a game where I fully squared up several pitches with power hitters. Perfect timing, right on the nose, power swing.....and they went to about 10 feet before the warning track. With the wind blowing out. At Wrigley.

Give Mike Lowe's slider set an honest run, you won't be disappointed. Use whatever user inputs you desire. He lists legend pitching and HOF batting, but I'm using HOF for both and am very pleased with the outcomes. I wouldn't recommend anyone that is somewhat serious about franchise to play below HOF as it alters how the cpu pitches. For those that usually play below HOF to combat the difficulty alter pitch speeds and or user timing.

Any thoughts to maybe the wind being bugged? Perhaps it’s blowing out and not saying it is?

Haven’t messed around enough myself as I’ve been busy and waiting on better rosters to drop. So just have been doing moments, which suck, and touring stadiums.

But people are getting some weird results. Especially those who are not doing carryover saves, it seems.

I noticed a major spike in homeruns as soon as the 1st update came out. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not but definitely noticed a spike. I play on HOF directional hitting with Legend pitching. I’ve been playing The Show since 08, very rarely do I make sliders changes. The only two I really touch are timing and pitch speeds but this time I had to make an exception as my homeruns totals per game were through the roof. Though the sample isn’t big enough, through 6 games I’ve definitely seen a big decline in homeruns per game after making several changes to my sliders. Thought I’d share these with you in case you were interested. Here are the slider changes I’ve made to counter the homeruns:

                                CPU Pitcher Consistency - 7
                                Human Timing - 4
                                Human Pitcher Consistency 6
                                CPU Timing - 4
                                Fastball Speed - 6
                                Offspeed - 6
