Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard

Well since the patch I'm starting to agree with you guys. I loved the day one fielding, but I'm hating whatever this is. I loved the skill based fielding, and would love if they brought back the option to turn it back on.

since we've gotten these longer lock-on animations back though, I've noticed a few things I've been dissatisfied with. The most egregious happened last night. Speedy center fielder hit a solid single to left last night. I charge the ball and get it cleanly and load up a throw to first (for no other reason than frustration), but I immediately change my input to 2nd.

The CPU senses the throw and runs for 2nd as if knowing ahead of time there was going to be an error (I thought we were done with this!) but the throw beats him by a mile. Except my 2B man is facing the opposite way. He continues to stay locked facing the opposite way waiting patiently for something to arrive from the power alley in left center. As the runner arrives, he still refuses to turn and instead swats away an invisible chihuahua or something. Runner is called safe.

I made a video of it, but I need to take the time to transfer it to my thumb drive and upload it so I can submit it as part of a bug report.

3 in one game plus a fielding error where the CPU never stopped running. Caught me by surprise.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard

I had one yesterday with a guy at second base and one out, my shifted SS makes a really nice play to his left, cutting off a ball in short centerfield.
The batter obviously was under the impression that the ball had gotten up the middle for a hit, as he decided to not run through first base and try to beat out what was going to be a close play, and took a really wide turn-route like he was going to round the bag...
I threw him out fairly easily as a result, but the runner from second, also thinking the ball was in the outfield for a hit, rounded third and took off for the plate.
I never even knew he was home until the announcer mentioned that the home team had “stolen a run”.
Something has got to give. I’m nerfing my game and playing too many house rules to combat the egregious mistakes my team is suffering at the hands of this build.
I also tried editing my outfielders and making their defensive skills at 99 to see if that impacted the catch-window animation size, and I cannot conclusively day either way if that has made any significant progress.
Maybe I should set them all to Zero and see if it gets worse rather than better.
Right now, I have no idea what is plaguing the fielding.
        Apparently, I’m not alone...

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard

Add another one to the list. 90 mph line drive right at the right fielder. Didn't even touch my stick as the animation took over instantly. The ball icon was slightly behind my fielder, but since the ball was hit on more of a line I didn't think it would matter. I was wrong. Instead of just sticking his glove up and catching the ball my fielder ducks then stabs his glove in the air late and the ball ends up at the wall. The fact that so many of these errors include an animation taking over makes them feel scripted. Like I was never going to catch the ball in the first place because the game decided I was getting an error before it even got there. And what's more frustrating is that I never see these type of errors from the CPU. They'll boot a ground ball in the infield occasionally, but their OF play seems to be perfect all the time.

People are working around this by switching the fielding to auto but that seems backwards to me. If the devs want errors to happen randomly then this is the sort of thing I'd expect to see with fielding set to auto. But I shouldn't be forced into an error if I'm fielding manually.

            Plain and simple.

This game is an embarrassing disaster on many levels.

And the fact that we've had to endure this build for now 12 days is... well... downright criminal. I feel like my $60 was stolen from me at this point.

It's gotten to the point that I'm on the verge of just buying a mini phone stand to point at my TV and use Google Translate to play Pro Yakyuu. I'm an RTTS player and the game has, for me, essentially turned into an offline Diamond Dynasty grind for stubs to buy equipment (some people probably don't care but I like having most of the equipment in the game), and when you couple that grind with the god awful state of fielding in this game, it becomes beyond tiresome to play.

I'm closing in on 190+ hours of playing this game so I've gotten my money's worth, and I'm not saying I'm going to completely stop playing, but as of this moment I'm just not enjoying the overall package enough to keep doing this.

What's also frustrating is that you can't change to Auto Fielding while you're playing a game in Diamond Dynasty. Needs to be done before. Not sure why they locked it out during the game.

It works for Showdown and Conquest.

Where? When pausing and going to the gameplay options, I don't see anything about changing to Auto Fielding.

I think you have to change it from the main menu User Settings before you enter DD. Try that.

I am one of the few that didn’t have major issues and kind of had the “feel” down to keep trouble at bay, but so far, one game in, and no issues in game one.

Well post patch last night played a game no outfield errors. Just finished a game and a ball was hit to right field and Hunter Dozier went the other way and flung his arms back and there was an error. I thought this crap was supposed to be fixed

If it is being counted as an error then it might actually be intended to play out the way it did. In my experience, all of the fielding issues I kept experiencing with no animation playing at all were never counted as errors which made me believe it was a bug. An error being counted means the game acknowledges the fielder missed the ball and that is not what was happening in my experience with all of the issues I had.
