I think you have to change it from the main menu User Settings before you enter DD. Try that.

Yeah, that's my point. You can't change that while playing the game. You have to do it before you play. It's strange.

Randall Grichuck had the ball and it dropped out of his glove. I hate outfield errors but I guess that's better than the awkward animations where they flail their arms back the other way and the ball goes by.

I was going to hold off on buying this year but ended up getting it when the quarantine started but because of how hectic work was, I hadn't been able to give it a shot until today.

This thread alone had me pretty worried about the game.

I last three innings before shutting it off because of the fly ball issues (amongst some other things).

I lost a game today because Yadi would not pick up a ball at his feet. I ran over the ball four times, tried to stop, everything...but could not get the ball. Guy went from second to home to beat me 3-2 in ranked seasons. Had multiple plays the game before where good fielders made no attempt at the ball when it should have we fielded. The game prior to that one was flawless.

It just isn’t much fun to play because of this crap. (And I have won two games because my opponent had fielding issues).

Fielding is a lot better but I'm still having outfielders or infielders flat-out not picking up the ball or cutting into an animation too quickly or too late resulting in the runner being safe or an error.

It seems like every 3rd or 4th game I get the damn outfield error crap. Tonight a fly ball was hit to centerfield and Danny Santana bent down and moved his glove to his right missing the ball entirely as it went to his left. WTF.

I had not had any issues for about a week but the last 2 nights and particularly last night was terrible.

On top of that I had the pitcher not cover 1st base in back to back games leading to runs.

Outfield play has been much better for me since version 1.09 dropped. More predictable.

However, I've seen a couple instances in the last few days of the camera angle not showing the fielder you're controlling on the screen, and the CPU-controlled fielder giving up on the play early.

One where it didn't affect the play:

I use broadcast camera for fielding, not sure if it happens in other angles. I switched early this year because I was having trouble picking up which fielder I was controlling, especially on tweener hits to the shallow outfield, leading to me running my player the opposite direction (I'd try to break in on a ball thinking I was controlling the outfielder, only to actually be controlling the infielder so I'd run back towards the mound and the ball would drop).

I've had a much better experience since 1.09, the fielders are actually getting to the icon and catching the ball. This had been driving me crazy until that patch dropped.

is the game this yr just garbage? I haven't picked it up yet because I keep seeing issues like this popping up on YouTube, social media ect. Making me super wary if I should even bother picking up this yrs copy.

No....far from it.

Despite its warts out of the gate,fielding has been better per the community since the latest patch, the game on the field is easily the best of the series.

If you enjoyed '19 and now that the game has patched some of its biggest issues, I highly recommend picking up the game.

Haven't had an outfielder error in a while and tonight the ball dropped out of JJ Reddick's glove. It's not as bad as when they would flail their arms or move away from it and then it would get called an error.

Posted this in the patch thread, but yeah nothing really has been fixed. If anything some things have gotten worse.

OF play needs serious work. I’m seeing OF’s turn the wrong way over the wrong shoulder when the ball is hit. They are Magellan out there. It’s pitiful. OF’s are lunging and shifting their weight in when a ball is clearly over their heads. I don’t know if this was a design decision or if it’s buggy. It’s never been this way until this year. You don’t see professional OF’s and even collegiate OF’s getting these terrible jumps and misreading balls.

Another issue I see often is when an OF has to go hard to their left or right to field a line drive or a gapper that landed safely and they go into this tumble or dive animation. This should not be in the game and needs to be removed.

Last issue I see is on balls down the line the camera will not move to allow you to see the fielder to pick the ball up. It’s a blind spot and it leaves the user guessing where the ball is. Frustrating.

Hopefully all of this gets cleaned up soon.

Not garbage at all. I’m having more fun with the game this year than I have in years.
