    Quirks

Quirks were introduced a few years ago. I always felt they were a placeholder for future releases as they didn't really mean anything at the time. Has anyone noticed any accuracy with the quirks this year?

For instance, if a pitcher has day pitcher quirk, has pitcher performed better during day than at night? If the hitter has clutch with two out quirk, does the hitter seem to perform much better in that situation? These are just random examples.

I honestly don't know if the quirks have any effect at all.

      Re: Quirks

I've noticed a few quirks having an impact. The effects are minor but they are present.

I just wish you could edit perks, especially now with the previous pitch speed barrier breakable via perks.

I want to be able to edit in quirks like homebody to created players.

        Re: Quirks

I just use quirks as identifiers, like such as the day player and night player. I might give a night player a day game off but not a night game and vice versa for the day player.
or a homebody and a road warrior. I'll give a homebody a road game off and a road warrior a home game off.

They certainly have impact. I pay attention to bunt masters, snipers, first pitch hitter, bomber, breaking ball hitter, night and day players, grounded, Cheese...a ton of them. I check quirks for every AB.

I love them. But like Warmwind wish they were editable inside franchise mode.

It would be great if a developer could come on here and explain their current or perhaps future meaning. I think the concept is great; I am just not sure if they have a real purpose.

And I agree with editing if they have a purpose.

Well they do have purpose. They are buff’s for the player that has them. Now the opposing batter or pitcher will have quirks that counteract or cancel certain quirks for lack of a better term.

Has SDS said how they're quantified? I have not seen in game results. I could see how hitter quirks might cancel pitcher quirks. I guess what I'm thinking is a hitter who has no counter quirk does he perform less well e.g. in a day game against the pitcher with the day game quirk?

The pitcher will receive a bump. Extrapolate from that how that would effect a hitter with no day quirk.
Short answer is, as pitcher will receive a bump, it's logical a hitter will have a slightly harder day against him.

I understand the concept. What I am asking is in anyone seeing tangible results beyond what I describe as placebo (you think it is doing something but it is not)? That's why I asked if SDS has publicly quantified the results.

For instance, Tanaka has a split finger quirk. But if you edit his pitch types and remove the split finger, he still has the split finger quirk? How is that possible if these are working? Shouldn't he no longer have that quirk? But if I take a a catcher who has 60 arm strength and change it to 90 he now has a cannon quirk. Does he now have an arm strength bump because he now has the quirk or because I increased his arm strength or both? So if the quirks work how does SDS quantify it? TMK..the quirks have not been explained.

This is why I would hope a developer would come in here and explain it just as one did with directional hitting, which was very helpful. I love the quirks..just not sure if they work.

                      I get what you mean,
So quirks can be thought of in 2 ways. Some you can receive through attributes (as you mentioned), so that's directly tied into what attributes he has. I call this type of quirk an advanced scouting report (for lack of better terminology). I.e, if you edit an attribute above/below a certain level, that player will/wont have that quirk.
Some quirks you cannot edit though i.e Day/Night player. I refer to these as actual quirks...as they are quantifiable if you look at the players real life data but you cannot edit into/out of the game through player edit.

I can say that the quirks do work (and that's from actual personal in game experience) and like A&S, I check them for every batter and pitcher I face/play with.
What I cannot explain though is the Tanaka thing. I'd have thought if you removed that pitch it would remove that quirk but logically speaking, if that particular quirk isn't one you can edit in/out, then I'd expect it to stay there in case you edit that pitch back into his arsenal. Otherwise it wouldn't appear there again. Obviously can't be sure on that though. Not ideal. And I am speculating on this.

Well..I just tried to lower Tanaka split finger accuracy and it did remove the split finger quirk. I'll try to monitor these more closely as I truly hope they work. I would still love more of an explanation from SDS. Thanks.

                          Re: Quirks

Yes some quirks just indicate that an attribute is above a certain level. Mostly useless except for the individual pitch quirks since the attributes card only gives you a general idea about all pitches.

But quirks like Homebody, Road Warrior, Red eye, unfazed, etc, actually are useful. I can't speak on how much on an impact they have, but I do know I currently have a player named Alfonso Baez called up to fill in for an injury in my rotation. He has the Homebody quirk, and just can't seem to find bats when playing at home, yet he still is statistically my worst pitcher in the rotation.

                            Re: Quirks

Jack Flaherty has the "UNTOUCHABLE" quirk (strike out pitcher) and I've noticed that teams are usually more aggressive at the plate against him, meaning they try to avoid getting to 2 strikes.

Quirks definitely have an impact on the game and in the game.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
