    Re: HDR on the Show

I play with HDR on and Balanced. Game plays and looks great. With HDR off, the colors are so over saturated. Play on Sony 65” 900F. But it’s personal preference.

For me it looks “better” with it off, but looks much more realistic with it on.

Playing with HDR on looked worse (completely washed out) at first on my Sony X900f, but after messing around a bit with the TV picture settings I got it looking great and better than it was with HDR turned off, although it isn't really that noteworthy of a step up visually.

On my TV the colors are definitely more vibrant with HDR ON, and more washed out with it OFF, which is how it should be. So I guess it varies from set to set. I’ll have to test and see if the framerate is smoother with it off.

I had this issue with Red Dead Redemption 2 when it came out. HDR off the colors seemed to "pop" more but though colors were more subdued with HDR on, it was more life-like as in there was a much wider gamut (hence HDR). HDR off looked pretty like a Disney animated movie, HDR on looked like you were looking through an open window into the real world. If that makes any sense.

              Need some help.

TCL TV and HDR looked great since I got the game.

Yesterday there was a power outage so I had to hit restart on the tv.

When it came back, the HDR for the Show sort of looks too grainly too detailed now. I don't know what changed. It seems like the picture settings are the same but maybe something changed during reset ?????

What causes the picture to be too detailed grainy? I have sharpness set to 5 but I think I had that before too.

I have a TCL as well and each HDR preset (Dark, Normal, Bright) has different settings, so maybe you were using a different preset before? I would also try resetting to default if you can’t get it back to the way it was previously. Make sure you have Game Mode enabled as well and LED Motion Clarity OFF.

I see it now thanks. I have no idea what I used. I guess i will have to re-calibrate .

Also why turn on game mode? I have it off it looks like in all the HDR options. It says the picture will be worse when on but no lag. Is the lag that bad w/ it on? I"m a bit of a graphics whore.

Yeah game mode is to prevent lag while hitting/pitching. With it on, you won’t have the option to enable other things like Natural Cinema and Action Smoothing on a TCL, but you don’t want those while gaming anyway (the extra processing can not only add lag, but also mess with the perceived smoothness of pitches and any animation in general). Other than that, I don’t think game mode has any real negative effects on the picture quality specifically, but you’d have to do some comparisons. It’s always the first thing I enable so I haven’t tried playing without it.

I've got a LG C9 and game looks amazing in HDR. I've been switching between SDR and it's no contest.

So what’s the consensus here fellas? HDR def should be on and if so does it have any affect on FPS/input lag or is it placebo? Lol I went as far as plugging the HDMI into slot 5 last night that supposedly has a smaller input lag but also disables hdr altogether

Not sure why HDR tvs apparently vary so much.

On my 49" 4k Qled tv the HDR is amazing. I play on Sharper and everything is buttery smooth (it auto switches to game mode) and incredible lighting. I can only say if you have not managed to get HDR to display correctly on your tv/monitor you are missing out. And if you can't play on Sharper you are doubly missing out.

Oddly I can't play Madden PC with HDR on unless I play in windowed mode. Drives me crazy so I don't play.

I have a Sony 55'' 950g and couldn't imaging playing with it off. It looks so much more vibrant and colors pop. I think this is a case of certain TVs having very poor HDR implementation.

It looks more realistic with HDR on to me. Great color tones and itls almost like I'm watching an actual real game. I don't like the saturated colors look when it's turned off. Looks too fake and video gamey.
                              I'm on a call Sony X900E 4k tv.

Maybe some of you need to adjust your TV color settings or something if HDR On looks bad. Rtings.com can help you out.

Or maybe the HDR on your TV is fake and isn't actual HDR. HDR On definitely works for me perfectly.

I have a Samsung KS8000 which is one of the best TV's for HDR. Game looks totally washed out with it on.
