    Re: Stolen Bases

I'm doing fine overall, but I can't steal 2nd with runners on 1st and 3rd without sending the runner on 3rd home. Been stealing bases the same exact way since The Show 18.

Perhaps the difficulty level effects this aspect. I play on Veteran+. I also have the slider all the way to zero for pickoffs.

I take an additional step lead and push back towards first with the L stick while holding down R2, this way any time they pick I get back safely. Has always worked in the past, this year however the baserunner will head back to first half way thru his attempt....anyone else seeing this?

          Re: Stolen Bases

I've had success pressing L2 to steal and then holding L1 until the pitcher makes his move to the plate.

I stole second last night on default HOF with Swanson, who has a 70-something speed rating and a 50-something steal rating. On default All-Star, I was 5-for-5 with Acuńa (including a steal of third) and 2-of-3 with Albies.

Since you're not taking an extra step, the CPU won't automatically throw over. But be warned, if you're using this method and the CPU does throw over, you're dead.

Interesting. So essentially, you’re holding both L2 and L1 and then releasing them both when the pitcher makes his move home?

Press and release L2 to pre-load the steal. Then press and hold L1 until the pitcher makes his move to the plate. So you're only holding L1.

Yep....I finally found my rhythm again with this method. I was having a rough go with Trea Turner but finally got my timing back with this.

Been stealing bases like this for years and we are back at it again. But let me tell you.....the simply pre-load is awful. The Jumps are simply terrible this cycle and if you do not use this method Lowerwolf is talking about your success rate will be brutal. And that is with very good base stealers.

So load the steal up with L2 and then hold L1 until delivery? I thought the runner would jump the second you pressed L1, I’ll have to try this because I’m struggling on the base paths

Holding L1 simply makes him lean towards second

Raise baserunner speeds or lower infield throw strength (or both) to increase the number of successful steal attempts on quality jumps.

Raise stealing ability to increase the frequency of quality jumps vs bad jumps.

A few weeks back I was fiddling around in Conquest mode and my 99 speed/99 steal Rickey Henderson was getting thrown out by a mile with the pre-load. Last year I could get steals with Ender Inciarte with just the preload, depending on the pitcher. They really killed the move at some point.

Yeah, bumping up runner speed and steal ability by just one notch has made it work for me. The only problem is how frequently the CPU pitcher will throw to first, no matter what you do. I get thrown at at first far more often than I do at second. Including when I'm not telling the player to even take a lead.

So if i want to lead I would take a lead with L1, then queue up the steal with L2 and then hold down L1 till I think or see the pitcher make their move to home and release L1. If I wanna get back I hit R1. Does this sound right? Thanks in advance. Just signed up for this site. Been reading for a little while now

I swear that after the previous patch (not today's, the one before it) the CPU pitchers all became psychic in their ability to tell when the player is going to steal, and how to throw to first at just the right time to catch me in a run down. I'd seen it maybe two or three times before this week since getting the game, and now it happens multiple times every single game to me. Horribly frustrating.
