I suspect anything Sony does to make franchise as profitable as DD will make a significant block of the base mad... and they know it, so they've decided to leave well enough alone.

No commercials. That would be torture. They need to incorporate the equipment cards into franchise. It would be cool to be able to equip one my franchise players with a new bat, glove or shoes to give them a boost for a few games at a time.

It REALLY depends on what you want out of a franchise mode.



Speaking for myself, I'll take The Show's franchise mode as it stands right now over 2k every single time and I fully acknowledge that The Show's mode needs some love.

You do realize that 2k’s franchise mode has almost every feature people on here want? There is create your arena, create a team, expansion draft, edible draft classes, relocation, vote on league rules each year, you can edit the length of the season and playoffs, edit the league structure.....and I know I am forgetting more.

Instead of commercials, I could see them having an ad pop up in the corner of the screen or in the ticker. Or maybe something attached to the score bug.

2k's game play is pretty bad though. Skating players, players just morphing from one spot to another, players stealing the ball with their back turned towards you, etc. Normally it's fine out on release but every patch removes selling points of the new version to the point it ends off being last year's version while not fixing the current problems.

I think it's really simple. You make "Franchise Challenges" that unlock specific rare players for DD that force players to play it.

"Get X many HR's" "make it to the pennant" "Make X amount of profit" "AA team make it to playoff"

Yup...I totally realize that.

But from my point of view, the front end is only 10% of the mode...it's the 90% (in-game) that falls completely apart for 2k (in my opinion) and that excels for MLB (again, IMO). If you actually sim games (I do not), the relative importance of the front end might increase for you and I could see why you might weigh those types of ancillary items more importantly.

I don't want to de-rail this any further on this comparison...but THAT is why I feel the way I do.

NOPE....no way. Here's why....they will abuse it with playing on Rookie, biasing sliders, using loaded rosters, turning off budgets, all that stuff. Any possible options would be locked, which would suck for people who just want to play franchise. It's the reason MtO is so locked down.

So I think we mostly all agree that the reason that franchise is getting minimal love these days in The Show, and in sports games in general is the cash cow that are the card collecting games.

I was just playing a game in my franchise and Matty V, says something along the lines of "we'll be back after this" and I thought, what about commercials? What if franchise games had 10 second, non-skip-able commercials? I know that would frustrate many given the Heidi Watney outrage sometimes seen, but you'd have to think that Under Armour, Nike etc. would jump at the chance. I bet you'd be willing to get some of the stadium sponsors as well.

I just hope that if that were to happen that the companies would put the additional funds into their respective franchise modes, with bigger teams.

Never. Please don’t give them ideas like that. That is ridiculous.

They are making a fortune on DD if they choose not to allocate those resources to franchise mode....whatever.

I and many many silent members here are doing just fine enjoying franchise mode without having insufferable non skippable commercials.

Probably one of the worst ideas.....I have ever seen. But in all seriousness.....nothing personal. I know your brainstorming and trying to figure out how we can get them to make franchise mode better.

I get it.

Perhaps, but in theory, having a higher revenue stream within franchise mode can prompt devs to say "hey, this mode is important to our bottom line" and thus get that 'blessing' from higher-ups to focus more attention to it.




This would be my concern as well. The vast majority of gamers (including franchise guys) are incredibly impatient. They want instant gratification and don't want to work for it. It's why some people sim games; not because they "don't have time" (in many, not all, cases) but because they want the "reward" handed to them as quickly as possible (no different than DD guys spending cash for cards vs "grinding").

Adding anything into the mode that can "drag things out" even more is going to likely push folks away.

It is an bad bad idea Josh. I simply would never want freaking commercials inside sports video game presentation......I skip them in real life when I record games, and shows.....and I want the ability to skip whatever I want in a game I paid for.

Back on 2K11 they had a great way of doing it between periods. It was literally 15 seconds but fit the narrative of the season......and it was skippable more importantly and non revenue producing....meaning zero product placement.

It is a non starter for me LOL.
