    Padres Batting Order

Been getting to grips with batting orders and the types of players that should filled each role. Would appreciate it if someone could have a look over what I’ve currently got set up and see if I should make any changes. I traded for Josh Bell from PIT and signed Puig from the FA pool.

    1. Tommy Pham
    2. Fernando Tatis Jr.
    3. Manny Machado
    4. Josh Bell
    5. Yasiel Puig
    6. Wil Myers
    7. Brian Dozier
    8. Eric Hosmer (DH)
    9. Austin Hedges

In non-DH lineups, Hedges hits at 8 and my pitcher is at 9.

Jurickson Profar and Scooter Gennett are my pinch hitters.

    How’s it looking?

    Lot of righties!

I'd personally flip Tatis and Pham and I'd flip Dozier and Hosmer. But the way batting orders are anymore, you can do just about anything.

Only Bell IIRC. How important is it to have lefty hitters in your lineup?

Lead off Tatis. And play Mejia over Hedges. I'd also find a way to get Grisham in there. Who is playing CF for you? Please don't say Myers.

Also - OT hey OS can we get a brown Padres logo for my avy please?

I believe Tatis Jr. hit leadoff for most of the year last year.

Thanks all! Will switch Pham and Tatis.

I traded Mejia for Bell and Jameson Taillon. Should I have traded Campusano instead?

And yes I have Myers at CF for now. Is that bad lol?

Depends how long you plan on running the franchise for. Campusano is our C of the future and a top prospect in MLB. If you're only going to play 1 season then I'd say yes deal him over Mejia but if you plan on making this an actual franchise for years then no, keep Campy.

And IRL, Myers is a disaster in CF. That experiment failed.

Francisco Mejia for Josh Bell and Jameson Taillon. Gotta love The Show.

I’m going to be playing a decent amount of seasons. Keep Campusano and stick with Hedges for now?

I’ll probably trade for another outfielder at the deadline if the playoffs looks likely. And I’ll work Grisham into the rotation there some until then.

I also sent Andres Munoz(?) and used the trade calculator from the trade thread, which said I overpaid slightly.

Munoz, Mejia, and a low level starting pitcher seem fair?

I’ve never used the trade calculator on here but if it said it works then it works. The Pirates would never do that trade in reality but if the calculator approved it, go for it.

Why would the Pirates not be interested?

I’ve only just started following baseball, so correct me if I’m wrong, but Bell and Taillon’s contracts are both up and the Pirates are, from what I understand, awful. They get two good prospects and a replacement starter for two expiring contracts.

I mean the pirates traded meadows and Glasgow for archer like a year ago.

                            Munoz is marginal.

I'd say something like Mejia/Trammell/Morejon if you're gunning for both Taillon and Bell.

You have an advantage over the CPU because you can basically re-sign any player to a contract extension. That's the fundamental flaw with the trade calculators, they look at contract values but don't account for the fact that you can re-sign anyone you want. So, you're trading a redundant catcher (Pirates already have Stallings) and a marginal prospect for a borderline number 1 starter and a 1st division 1B.

You need to increase the assets you send over in a trade to keep things a little more fair. No, the trade suggestion I'm making is probably too rich for real life, but its more fair in the mode environment.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.
