The anxiety is killing me. Those guys look at these forums too. All it would take is one dev or Ramone to say "no roster imports either". Because every day I spend three hours editing my 20 rosters I am one step further from buying 21. If they mean just franchise/RTTS carry overs are out, fine. Say that. But the idea that we can't import any roster elements from previous games is also terrible, but again....say that. If all this work is not compatible with 21 and beyond, let the community know.

Agreed.

However there are those that treat it more like OOTP so maybe they will be the market for a deep minor league system. They'd be able to get decades into a franchise in a single game cycle.

Yes. Also there are people who will straight up sim and never play, manage or even watch a CPU v CPU game. I think there are probably only a handful that would play it that way though.

The more I play my carryover franchise in ‘20, the more dejected I become at the fact that carryover saves are not in for ‘21.

And not knowing until April what franchise changes are in for ‘21 to even make a decision on whether to quit or continue just adds to the frustration.

I am 20 games into Year 5 on my carry over Yankees I started on MLB 17.

Awesome.

Not looking back, no regrets, and I won’t be missing a thing not having 21.

Don’t care.

The loss of carryover saves (and believe me, I seriously doubt rosters will be transferrable anymore from 20 to 21) makes it not an annual purchase anymore and I can keep enjoying the immense content the community has poured their heart and soul into.

I am going to be candid and honest. I think (and again all this is unconfirmed but at some point we will get confirmation) the removal of Y2Y on the PS4 (forget the PS5 for a moment as for most of us we do not have that console yet) is directly a result of making this game a cross platform online game.

Plain and simple.

So.....so be it.

It was a hell of a run of buying it every year.

I am staying married to the content. I am way too invested and loving my franchises and classic rosters. I have zero interest in dumping all that joy just for a new version of basically the same game on the PS4.

I will check back in a couple of years on the PS5 and even then determine if it is really worth leaving behind 20.

My hope is it will be by 2022.

The loss of carryover saves also takes away some of the value of a stadium creator IMO. Being able to relocate or even have an expansion team with your own created stadium would be pretty cool, but that’s something I’d want to be able to play long term, not lose it all moving on to the next game.
If Stadium Creator is basically all they’ve done for franchise this year it’s probably not enough to make moving to 21 worth it without Y2Y saves.

If Stadium Creator is the only new feature BUT they’ve done some serious work on under the hood parts of franchise like regression tuning and CPU Logic improvements that could convince me without having Y2Y saves.

Finally not having to do any micromanaging of CPU lineups (some they come up with aren’t very good), CPU postseason rotations, all older players ratings falling off a cliff no matter what, etc, with 30 team control would be pretty nice.

I'm right there with you. Still playing 20 almost everyday. I'm 52 games into year 10 of my carryover and not looking back. My franchise has never had Lindor, Correa, Snell, Schwarber, Steager, Acuna, Torres, etc. and I haven't missed them because I'm so invested in the "fake" guys I do have.

I have no interest in spending the money on a PS5 since I literally only play The Show and I doubt the PS4 version will get the same love as the PS5.

I've bought the Show on release day every year since 2007 but for now it's not for me.

I truly hope they make 21 awesome and everyone who doesn't utilize carryover saves loves it! But the Franchise mode in 20 is perfectly fine for me.

Yeah. I was talking to a friend who only plays Madden and never real gets into baseball. He was talking about how he gets multiple years of Franchise mode every year and doesn't see the need for carry over saves. Then I asked him how long it takes him to get thru a season. He told me he can play 3 or 4 games a day, he plays with 10 min quarter I think, beyond that I don't know his settings or anything. So I was like "you can get thru a season, casually in a week or two?" Yup. Well the way I play The Show it takes about an hour and a half to play one game. Thats over 200 hours per season. So after investing that much time in ONE SEASON i will be dammed if I want to start over every year. That just does not appeal to me at all. If you sim or play fast play or whatever thats cool its your game. But I play, like quite a few on here, every pitch of every inning and a lot of minor league games as well. I have an Indians Franchise that I have been playing since 14 and I am 12 years into it. I just dont have any desire to leave this behind. EVER

I feel the same way. I think it's the people who sim multiple seasons who don't mind losing carry over saves. Those who invest a lot of time don't want to throw away and start over.

If somebody could tell me I can save my roster and start a new franchise in mlbts21 I would do that because then my franchise would be intact. The days of throwing away a franchise and starting from scratch are over for me.

I'd be willing to bet that the reason carry-over saves was dropped was because the file structure for roster data has changed significantly, and since that structure is the same within an actual roster as a franchise (roster structure is inserted in a franchise file), then there will be no carry-over rosters either.

It's possible they added so many additional features (new equipment, attributes, etc...) that it altered the format of the file too much to be able to import.

What's really unfortunate is, that if some of the more code-minded individuals among us had access to the two file structures, then a conversion utility could be made...one that would take a franchise file and convert it to '21, simply inserting a standard value in those fields that were newly created. For example, if they added a new attribute, the conversion utility would assign all players a value of 50, and then the end user would have to edit these to his liking from within the game.

But it's likely we'll never be able access the file structure. If we ever do, it'll be ten years from now when some hacker is able to open up ps4 save files. This is one reason I believe the better route for most of us is a PC version. We'd have a better chance to pull something like this off. But I don't see that happening, either.

Maybe so for the PS5 version, but I am highly skeptical this is so for the PS4 version.

I am willing to bet it was multi platform cross play code that did in Y2Y for current gen.

The answer will reveal itself soon enough.

i was thinking not buying 21 anyway

because football is my fav sport and MLB NBA gives u way more choices in edit i just got lindy's baseball mag and with lindy's i can edit the stats etc

other than a new stadium editor which is great what am i missing i skipped 19

i will not get a ps5 utill summer or maybe even dec

and plus the defauit rosters for 21 will be messed up

Why would they have to change the file structure? To accommodate cross-platform? I notice one "feature" is people can use their rtts guy across various modes and there is cross-platform play. Would that cause them to have to alter the file structure?

Honestly guys. I have started playing my 2021 season on mlb 20.. with updated service time and contracts to my roster. (and I am making transactions in my franchise as some real life transactions happen)

and I will not get a better accurate roster then I have now in mlb 21 till at least sometime in August. not just that though think of all the classic rosters.. unless you wanna take a video of every single player in the edit screen on mlb 20 and create them from scratch on 21 following the video which takes a good 30 mins per player. that is the ONLY way to transfer players in mlb 21 (assuming the edit player is the same screens and we are not locked out of this which won't surprise me if we are with next gen)

so the original question is what do we lose?? we lose A LOT!! without even mentioned what the feature is actually for.

There will be over 100 missing Vets because of the 2020 season, no way to export them.
we lose classic teams unless like I said you wanna spend 30 mins per player creating them and taking videos.

I would imagine that carry over saves will return moving forward after this year. It would be nice if SCEA would communicate a bit more with the community. I get they cannot commit to.a definite Yes that they will return, but they could simply say that is their aim. It would get a good amount of people back on board with buying the upcoming release.

If they had to do away with the carryover saves for this year due to moving to next gen and revamping franchise mode, but plan to have the feature return next year, then it is completely understandable.

If they are simply removing the feature with no plan right now to add it back, then I question what they are aiming to achieve.
