Someone on twitter mentioned maybe it was player attributes/ratings that are changing. And if player ratings are done differently then that could be the reason. I'm guessing that's what the deal is.

Re: Carry-over File Saves in MLB 21 .... What exactly do we Lose ?
The loss of those customers that care about the carry over feature vs the customers that are gained by going multiplatform will be the deciding factor. Why worry about making sure features work between y2y for a small group of customers when they can lean on the new bigger player base for any lost revenue. If the powers that be see value in carry overs they'll let it be added back in otherwise they will be more than happy to bank on exclusive licensing and an expanded consumer base from multiple platforms instead."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

I think this and/or brand new player models. Maybe the faces/player bodies can’t transfer over correctly.Comment

Just remember this. Whatever the reason, There is no new feature that makes carry over files impossible to program. Only inconvenient.Comment

You seem very knowledgeable about this game, Niner. I appreciate your posts.
I am a newbie, and classic roster guy only.
I was wanting some advice from you.
Do you feel it is worth putting major work into classic rosters for MLB 20?
I only play this MLB game, and classic rosters only as well. I assume classic player creators will need to create a good 3,000 Classic Ball Players before a reasonable roster, with depth could be added to MLB 21.
Just how long would this take?
Are we talking 18-months .... 24-months ...
I looked at the set numbers for CAP's, and it is FAR too much work for me.
I am cool with staying on MLB 20 until 1,000s' of Classic CAP ball players are prepared and ready. Needed your informed advice on this, Miner.
Thx. : )Honestly guys. I have started playing my 2021 season on mlb 20.. with updated service time and contracts to my roster. (and I am making transactions in my franchise as some real life transactions happen)
and I will not get a better accurate roster then I have now in mlb 21 till at least sometime in August. not just that though think of all the classic rosters.. unless you wanna take a video of every single player in the edit screen on mlb 20 and create them from scratch on 21 following the video which takes a good 30 mins per player. that is the ONLY way to transfer players in mlb 21 (assuming the edit player is the same screens and we are not locked out of this which won't surprise me if we are with next gen)
so the original question is what do we lose?? we lose A LOT!! without even mentioned what the feature is actually for.
There will be over 100 missing Vets because of the 2020 season, no way to export them.
we lose classic teams unless like I said you wanna spend 30 mins per player creating them and taking videos.Comment

It isn't 100% confirmed yet but I am assuming we can't carry rosters over from 20 into 21. I can't see why we would if we can't with franchise. and with the Xbox out it has no prior history of that feature so I can't see it being in the game.. but this is just might education guess here I could be completely wrong. just using logic.
if you are not worried about MLB 21 then for sure work on classic rosters and stick with 20.
We don't also know if editing is the same with next gen or if it is locked out. or if Service time is even still editable and we more then likely won't know those answers till April. but if it was you can open MLB 20 take a video of your player with all the editing and attributes. then create them on mlb 21 using the recording you took.. this takes 30 mins per player
that means 90 players is about 240 hours of work per teamLast edited by ninertravel; 02-15-2021, 08:03 PM.Comment

It's tricky, If you are planning om getting MLB 21 and leaving 20 alone, then spending hours on players now and not being about to transfer them into 21 would not be worth your time.

I may get MLB 21, just for the experience and to play with current players. As well, to begin edits to add to the newly-created Classic MLB guys.
However, .... if I actually want to play with Classic Rosters, then MLB 20 is the way to go. This may be so for 1-year or more.
I appreciate your advice a lot, Niner.

When Madden jumped to PS3, I think they added a dozen new ratings.

Re: Carry-over File Saves in MLB 21 .... What exactly do we Lose ?
What's really unfortunate is, that if some of the more code-minded individuals among us had access to the two file structures, then a conversion utility could be made...one that would take a franchise file and convert it to '21, simply inserting a standard value in those fields that were newly created. For example, if they added a new attribute, the conversion utility would assign all players a value of 50, and then the end user would have to edit these to his liking from within the game.
But it's likely we'll never be able access the file structure. If we ever do, it'll be ten years from now when some hacker is able to open up ps4 save files. This is one reason I believe the better route for most of us is a PC version. We'd have a better chance to pull something like this off. But I don't see that happening, either.
All we need is to be able to dump the files to a .csv and import them back in (I mean, it would be great to have a full blown roster utility! Don't get me wrong!)
Charge me for it. Make it a paid add on. I'll pay more for this than the game, having wasted 1000s of hours on rosters. You want free speech?

It’s not a secret that Ultimate Team type modes are the #1 priority these days. Other then just thinking positive there really isn’t a lot of reason to convince you SDS is about to suddenly dump a lot more time and resources into Franchise Mode then they have in several years now for a year or even a few years.
People don’t want to lose their carryover franchises and rosters they’ve put so much time into and get nothing significant that adds to the game.Comment

Re: Carry-over File Saves in MLB 21 .... What exactly do we Lose ?
From the pics that have been released, I didn't see any new ratings.
Roster carry over might still be a thing.
Might not be ideal for those of you who have gone 15 years into a franchise. And you'll have to do the work of exporting everything. But at least all is not lost. You want free speech?

Re: Carry-over File Saves in MLB 21 .... What exactly do we Lose ?
Last year, COVID hit hard and fast in terms of my financial life, so getting 20 was very low on my priority list. But if what I have waiting for me is the best game of all time, then I'm really looking forward to making the switch, and not caring about 21 at all. Does anyone else consider 20 to be the best ever?Comment

Re: Carry-over File Saves in MLB 21 .... What exactly do we Lose ?
Is this a commonly accepted observation? I am still playing 19 (and enjoying it), but I have purchased and downloaded 20 when the price was 10 bucks during the holidays. I am just waiting to start 20 until my current season in Franchise mode is over, because transferring always messes up the schedule. Yes, I'm one of the 0.01% of people who care about franchise (saw that in another thread, not sure where that data came from).
