If Y2Y saves don't return for '22, what will you do in regards to MLB '21?

Ok I was thinking about this yesterday and thought I would propose this poll to get a gauge on the community and a quick reference for the devs to see when they visit the forums in regards to Y2Y saves moving forward.

So, the question is, if Y2Y saves don't return in '22, what will you do with MLB '21 in regards to franchise/RTTS?

Me personally, I keep going back and forth with not playing '21 and continuing my carryover save in '20 to starting over in '21 and if Y2Y saves don't return in '22, then likely passing on '22 and waiting to see if Y2Y saves return for '23.

So, what do you say community? What is your likely decision?

Since I am an exhibition/play off guy, I would have to vote for it has no bearing on me IF they do not include ROSTER carry overs. I know your poll is about franchise only, so I did not vote...because I think if I voted no bearing on me it would send the wrong message to the devs. I think it should be included...I just don't use it. If roster carry overs are out, so am I.

I always start new each year anyway. I tend to sim and play so I get 6 to 7 seasons in, by then the franchise seems to fall apart for one thing or another. Players either go unsigned, too many highly rated pitchers, players retire mid contract.

Last year I played 2.5 full seasons.

I keep going back and forth on this as well. Since I don't have any interest in buying a PS5 for now I'm definitely sticking with 20. If I know that Y2Y saves are coming back in 22 I'd probably buy 21, eventually.
I just can't go back to starting a new franchise every year. Being 47 and married I don't have the time to play The Show like I used to.

In a way part of me would like to start over with the Real Life Cubs and then making the team my own again going forward. Since I started my franchise in 14 I missed out on playing with guys like Schwarber, etc and only had caps for Bryant, Russell, Baez, Almora, etc. Anyone drafted in 14 or later I never added into my franchise and loved just rolling with my guys. I play with 30 team control and have actually been considering moving to a different team in order to start from scratch anyway but if I did that it would still have the storyline from the previous 10 years.

Sorry for the long post but these are the things that have been going through my head ever since the bad news dropped. I know the Show will be awesome again this year but as of now for the 1st time since 2006, it just may not be for me. Unfortunately!

For the long term play every game franchise I’ll just keep going on 20. I would get 21 when it hits bargain price like $19.99(I have been doing that mostly anyway each year). On 21 I’ll start a March to October then after that play it with critical situations or quick manage.

I totally respect anyone that wants to keep it close to real life as possible. But for me I feel it’s my own fantasy world so I don’t need to do that.

I really liked the idea of the feature when it was first announced. I still have my original carry over save. However, I've restarted a franchise every year, because of the generic players it generates with retirement or if they leave the MLBPA. I haven't used it since my first Y2Y save.

I'm a one year and done kinda guy. I need to wait and see this year on pre ordering, or first day purchase as I have my concerns about the direction. If franchise is linked to MTO I probably won't purchase. I want to hear what the game offers from the devs in March.

I’ve always been jealous of the guys who carry over y2y and have long running franchises. Every year I intend to do the same.

But I start new every year.

Re: If Y2Y saves don't return for '22, what will you do in regards to MLB '21?

If it wasn't for my various RTTS players, I could easily just buy the game every year as I am more of a Season mode instead of multi-year Franchise mode player. But my RTTS players are interesting and not just because they are beginning to become some of the more talented players in the league. No some of teams my RTTS players play on are rather interesting teams.

The very first RTTS player I created with MLBTS 17 is a pitcher. He was drafted by the Pirates as a starter, but the Pirates wanted to turn him into a Closer while he was still in AA. I resisted the change, got benched for a while. But when he was in AAA and just after the All Star break, he was traded to the Padres who were open to having him as a starter and immediately promoted him to the MLB. That first year the Padres were horrible losing about 100 or so games. But the team has only gotten better. Last year (the 2020 season) the Padres beat the Dodgers in the NLCS but went on to lose in the World Series. Now one month into the 2021 season (thought I would try and finish the 2021 season with him this Spring), the Padres got off to a bit of a rough start in April as they are about 5 or so games behind the Dodgers. But there is still plenty of time left in the season to turn things around. Do I want to kill this RTTS player? No not yet.

I have a similar scenario going with another RTTS starter who has a corresponding cloned RTTS 2B playing with the Braves (kind of a Shohei Ohtani thing). In the first year this pitcher/2B joined the Braves, the Braves did not make the playoffs. But since then they have lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS, the next year they lost the wildcard game and this last season they lost again to the Dodgers in the NLCS. So there is unfinished business to do.

I can see myself keeping MLBTS 20 and playing with my RTTS guys this summer. The question I ask myself is how long am I willing to do this? Just this summer in 2021 or for even more years. MLBTS 20 is not perfect I have a list of bugs I wished SDS would have fixed, but MLBTS 20 is still a very good game. But of course in time the MLB The Show series will only get better. My attachment to my RTTS players and the fact that SDS wants to kill them moving forward is kind of a thorn in my side.

I've played this game since it's inception so yeah I have started over many times. But I've also carried over saves many times because I lose "immersion" if I'm just simming tons of games to get through multiple seasons. I kinda stop caring if I do that. So I need carry over saves to keep loving on this game as much as I do.

Right now I have a rebuilt Giants franchise going on in '20 that I'm totally immersed in. There is no chance I'm starting this one over for a long time. So I'll stick with '20 for a while.

Disclaimer: I could also change my mind if '21 is just THAT much more amazing on the PS4 than '20.

It’s really simple for me since I can’t carry forward my existing Franchise and all the classic rosters I have to 21 I’m sitting this cycle out. I hope they bring it back for MLB 22 and beyond. If it returns I would then consider a restart on a future version of the game on PS5.

I am far too immersed and having far too much joy to walk away from what I have now on MLB 16-20.
