I will say that in the competitive/online realm, could this take away some of the skill gap?

I consider myself a good defensive player in The Show and I have won games online because of it. While I’ve also won games because my opponent was much more inexperienced on defense and made simple, common mistakes.

The online gameplay could be impacted with all of these helpful indicators (especially the precise route line and no drift ball marker). Everyone could be playing near perfect defense if they just follow along with the screen indicators.
Yeah, I am curious if all the indicators are allowed to be on for the "Competitive" setting. Regardless, I think while the skill gap would be hurt a bit by this, the focus still was first and foremost on removing the annoyances, which should still be a net positive even in competitive settings. If you don't feel like you lost on a BS play where your fielder didn't pick up the ball etc. that usually goes beyond whether an indicator was on or not.

        Color me disappointed.

        1. The robbing home runs animation looks nice, but seriously, how often does someone rob a home run in real baseball? It happens so rarely it's really a non-issue for me.

        2. The new off z-axis plays look nice, but those over the shoulder infield catches on bloops look over the top. It seems like bloopers may not happen much anymore. Those infielders were literally making plays in mid-outfield. It just doesn't look realistic when an infielder is making a play that deep in the outfield.

        3. I know many of you are saying this is PS4 gameplay on the PS5, but that hasn't been corroborated and if this is PS5 graphics, I'm highly disappointed as it looks exactly like the previous Gen graphics.

Pop time definitely made me smile. I'd love to see it shown real time on showtrack/statcast, but at the very least I'm glad they're using that data in ratings calculation.

I know most of the stuff discussed in this stream probably doesn't move the needle for the large auto-fielding, ratings driven community here (and that's part of why I said that same community probably wouldn't see many noticeable differences in the gameplay), but a lot of the user-related fielding improvements talked about here were FAR overdue.

I forgot to mention pop time. It was nice that it was shown in a replay that indicated how quickly the catcher got rid of the ball.

And yeah, I wasn't expecting this much change to fielding initially which is why I stated that I was very impressed with the stream.

I honestly don't believe that I could continue playing '20 as a manual fielding player knowing the enhancements that '21 offers for that style of play.

It has been. The first stream said it was PS4 version running on PS5. Sure maybe they changed it for this one but I highly doubt it.

yeah it is a fear they might overuse that home run robing now to the point that it will happen to often. that's the only issue with having that in the game.

Also, Matt V. Sort of confirmed for '21 as I heard him clearly in the background during one of the clips (though to be fair I'm audio only for now and I don't know if it was a '20 or '21 clip, maybe someone can confirm/deny that?)

Overall, I think they nailed it. It's hard to be disappointed with 1K new animations and the logic they're applying to make fielding more authentic.

I do worry a little that we didn't see any diving catches that WEREN'T at the wall. I couldn't make a diving catch in shallow CF to save my life last year. I'm glad they made robbing a HR a real thing this year, but more catches happen in front of the warning track that weren't focused on. I hope the same improvements were made.

Nike catching gear is clearly the MVP of the video! Sizemore should be a great 5-tool option, like Soriano. Let's bring on the big guns ... Pedro, Big Unit, Manny, DiMaggio, Aaron, etc. I'll be patient. I really just want my '04 Sox if I'm being honest.

I'll check the pic later because tapatalk is dumb, but that's awesome if it's really shown in-game. I was hoping showtrack hadn't been axed entirely since it's been stagnant for a few years now.
