Yeah, the "you can only do so much in a year" argument doesn't really work when they've done so little in about the last 5 years (maybe longer). They don't even fix the broken stuff, yet alone add new things. It's just excuses to blame time constraints when really it's just that they don't value franchise mode enough to allocate the time to do anything to it

If you do a quick search of previous years' previews of MLBTS Franchise Mode, you'll find the same rationalizations - "building a strong foundation for the future" "be patient" "wait til next year".
At a certain point, folks are going to have to stop letting the wool be pulled over their eyes.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 21 Feature Premiere Starting Soon - March to October & Franchise Mod
Given the price hike for next gen games they had to bring something extra to next gen, they couldn’t put the identical game out as last gen. it’s a very nice extra though, well worth it.Comment

Hopefully. The main problem is that most of us have years building a team. And now we have to give that up if we wanna go next gen. Its frustrating. The lack of attention that they pay to us offline players. I get it, money talks. They make more revenue from DD. But for crying out loud we have to purchase the game in order to play it. Thats revenue in itself. I’ve bought mlb the show every year since the beginning.
MLB 20 is a great game. I dont see the need to buy mlb 21 and loose out on the franchise that I’ve had since 2017.Last edited by soamazen23; 04-02-2021, 06:06 AM.Comment

Honestly. All of these “new” additions could’ve been added via patch besides create a stadium. Madden did 3 separate major updates to franchise mode that added new menus for playoff brackets and offseason history. And added in better trade and free agent logic.
Again it’s great this is coming in to the show, but is it really worth a 90 dollar purchase? I feel ‘22 will be the big release when it comes to next gen.

MLB The Show 21 Franchise Mode and March to October Details From Feature Premiere
Ok. Had some time to digest the information. I like the things I heard in terms of redoing the logic foundation. That was a needed step.
I think if you are a player that never invested into Y2Y saves like some of us, and plays only a season or two in one cycle, have been pining for years for a fully functional stadium creator, then MLB 21 for the PS5/XBOX X is a big time buy.
However for someone like me who is clearly invested in my carryover franchises and fully invested in the 10’s of thousands of man hours put into classic rosters, this is an easy pass till late cycle.
I am really appreciative of the fact it looks like franchise mode is going nowhere (rumors of it’s demise have been greatly exaggerated and I never thought for minute it would disappear) and a foundation is being laid down to incrementally improve the core mode.
I do want to hear from them though ASAP that Y2Y will return either for 22 or 23 (whatever they think or plan on doing). The reason is a lot of us in this particular community have really taken to Y2Y and simply do not wish to start over each cycle. Also what are the classic roster guys going to do? Keep starting from scratch? The incredible explosion in community created content was largely due to the ability of Y2Y saves and the roster import trick (prior to MLB 20 where you could simply import rosters from 19).
My thinking is rosters should/could be importable from 21 to 22 now that the foundational core has been redone.
Also I am eager to see how gameplay will be on next gen and what trend we see in terms of how the game is programmed and geared. I still have some apprehension of the direction of the core game and the E-Sports phenomenon.
The stream was a positive one....but overall a shallow reveal in the grand scheme. I can see how many are disappointed.
Personally I have plenty to keep me busy on the PS5 with the PS4 versions which BTW play incredibly smooth and amazingly well. It’s like they were developed for the PS5 and have been unleashed.
I am sure way down the road I will grab 21 as hopefully classic roster content is created and use that in conjunction with community created classic stadiums.
So the future looks good. I just want to wait and see some more this time around.
I look forward to reading good feedback here on the game after it drops.
Have fun with it folks.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 04-02-2021, 07:14 AM.Now Playing on PS5:
